HONOR’S PROGRAM NARRATIVE REPORT


S.Y. 2016-2017

The English Honors Program aims to intensify academic experiences of advanced English.
Teachers are committed to preparing students achieve excellence which ensures superior
preparation for future inter-school and division competitions.

READING COMPREHENSION

- It aims to develop student’s reading skills and their critical thinking skills. The
project intervenes advanced literature, prose, and poetry and analysis of literary
style. Strategies are activating background knowledge, levels of comprehension,
structuring story, figurative languages and idiomatic expressions, vocabulary
builder, use of different reading styles, QUASAR Method and SQ3R Method. The
students are expected to have an increase in comprehension level, enthusiasm
about reading and willingness to pursue advanced literary studies.
Under this program are the following students:
1. Marites E. Vero – Grade 9-Platinum
2. Precious Grace R. Palle – Grade 9-Platinum

CREATIVE WRITING

- This program enhances student’s writing skills and precision in writing that also
let them express oneself through written communication with some oral
interactions and of course to build competency skills that makes writing clear.
This will make the trainees intellectually ready for more challenging work and
sophisticated ideas.
The following students under the said program are:
1. Ira Mae Blanza – Grade 9-Platinum
2. Love Joy Gatdula – Grade 9-Platinum
3. Arian Joy Flores – Grade 9-Platinum
4. Chelcee Lhei Ramirez – Grade 9-Platinum

SPEAKING SKILLS

- Its main goal is to develop student’s communication skills, identify the know-
hows of argumentation and demonstrate sound judgment in the analysis of an
issue as the main consideration in a debate.
This program is divided into two categories; The first one which is the Public
Speaking (composed of debate, impromptu speech, oral argumentation and
oration.)
Activities given to the students to enrich their argumentation and debate
skills are:
o Brainstorming
o Speaking about Social issues
o Card flow Game
o Chain debates
o Issue briefing

While the second category is Speech Arts, which trains the students to be more
eloquent and more effective in the field of communication.

Students under this program are as follows:

1. Precious Grace R. Palle- Grade 9-Platinum


2. Marites E. Vero – Grade 9-Platinum
3. Khryzia Kemia Mijares – Grade 9-Platinum

RADIO BROADCASTING

- The main objective is to train students to be competent, critical and responsible


to compete in the School Paper Press Conference (Broadcasting Category).
Some lessons to be taught are as follows:
1. Finding News
2. Gathering News
3. Broadcasting
4. Radio and TV Reporting; and
5. Voice Characterization
(Trainees from the said program are part of The Villager – School Publication
under Mr. Ryan Romnick B. Sanchez, School Paper Adviser)

I. Objective/s of Participation:
 To enhance the linguistics skills of the students by creating a complete story with
minimal time preparation and delivering it effectively.

Precious Grace R. Palle – (3rd Place-South Cluster) Elimination Round
(Finalist-Division Level) Final Round

III. Insights and Observations:


 Out of 11 secondary schools in South Cluster, Precious Grace Palle ranked 3 rd during
the elimination round and as a finalist during the final round.
 Other contestants have their own pattern and style in delivering their story.

IV. Implications:
 The contest demonstrates a broad of knowledge of critical thinking skills and
improving both their linguistics and communication skills.

V. Recommendations/ Plan of Action/s:


 The moderator will continue the training and workshop for novice or would be
storytellers.
 The moderator would suggest that this would be included on the school-based
English Month Celebration.
