CHAPTER 1

Introduction
‘’It’s no use growing older if you only learn new ways of misbehaving yourself”
(Hector Hugh Munro).
Misbehaviors are the actions of someone who is behaving wrong.
This topic ‘’Misbehavior of Grade-11 HUMSS” aimed to investigate about what are
the reasons why students commit misbehavior during class discussions.
Student misbehavior is one of the most troubling realities in today’s public
education (Kulinna, et al, 2010: Charles, 2008). Students misbehavior at school has become a
prominent national issue and continues to be major cause for concern among educators,
teachers, parents and communities despite the numerous and varying efforts to reduce it.
Students misbehaviors such as going without permission, talking against the teacher, tardiness,
talking and saying bad words is a thorny issue in everyday classroom. It interferes with teaching
stifles learning, produces great stress, lead to fail achieve their target than does any other
factor. Obviously student misbehaviors retard the smoothness and effectiveness of teaching and
also impede the learning of the students and his/her classmates.
It is an issue which both parents and educators identify as having the most
problematic and negative effect on society. However, it is also cannot fully understand. On one
hand, most parents and teachers blame each other for it while, on the other hand, the blame is
put on the students themselves. It is argued that a certain emotional instability or vulnerability
inherent in a child may cause him or her to misbehave. Laying the blame for student
misbehavior on the students themselves may constitute a counterproductive approach as it
does not have any positive effect on past misbehavior nor does it prevent similarly disruptive
behavior in the future (Giancola, 1998).
Present student misbehavior is likely to escalate into future social aberrations. As the
disruptive behavior among students’ increases, more and more students feel that it hinders
their ability to learn. In the same manner, teachers feel that misbehavior interferes with their
ability to teach as well as contributes to their stress. Not surprisingly, it has been estimated that
student indiscipline in general is regarded as an important predictor of school dropout (Dunham
and Alpert, 1987: Loughrey and Harris, 1990: Wells and Hamby, 1989).

We the researcher’s pursued this study for them to observed and monitor how it
improves. To ensure the best educational experience possible. Although this is challenge for us
researcher’s, with enough practice, we find that there are solutions to misbehavior in even most
difficult students. This keep students focused on the task at hand and keeps them from falling
victim to distractions that cause misbehaviors.

Statement of the Study

Main Question
- What are the reasons why students commit misbehaviors during class discussions?

Sub Questions
- Why it is important to investigate this research?
- What are the identified misbehaviors of the students?
- Why students violate the school rules and regulations?

Assumption of the Study

We the researchers assumed that this case of the study can improve and develop the
behaviors of the students.
We also assumed that more and more students feel that it hinders their ability to learn and
it can help to achieve their dreams if they focus on their study without doing misbehaving.
We assumed that the informants cooperate to us to finish this study.

Significance of the Study

Parents
- When the students behave well, pay much more attention during class hours and can
improve their performance. Then the parents will feel glad and great to their siblings.
They will feel that their child is studying well.
Teachers
- They will benefit to it because when all the students limits there behaviors in time of
class discussion then all the students will cope up the lesson. And with that, the grades
and the academic performances of the students will improved.
Students
- If the students behaves in the class, they can focus on the lessons that the teachers
teach them. They can also be more attentive in the class and can participate well.
Researchers
- It will benefit us because if all the students well participate in this research we will
know what are there perspective in misbehaving . We the researchers can formulate some ways
on how to help them to lessen their behaviors.

Scope and Delimitations

This study limits only to the Perception of the Identified Grade 11 HUMSS on their
Misbehavior during Class Discussion. This study limits only to the students who are misbehaving
during class hours that leads to miscommunicating of the teacher to his/her students. This study
limits on the factors that cause the misbehavior of the students.
The researchers limits their studies by gathering data, conduct survey and make an
interview to their informants who are Grade 11 HUMSS. This study did not affect the school
performance of Grade 11 HUMSS students.

Objectives of the Study

1. To identify the factors that cause them to misbehave.
2. To identify what are the effects of their misbehaving in their classmates and academic
performances.
3. To formulate alternative ways to lessen their misbehavior.
