A page explanation would be very unfair for the great Surah ‘Al-Fatiha’. Even a
book will not be enough to define this incredible masterpiece. The Surah contains a
mix of beautiful verses that defines the attributes of Allah and his blessing towards
mankind. The other part contains the verses that portray a beautiful bond between a
man and his God.

When we say “‫ ”اهدنا الصراط المستقيم‬and “‫”صراط الذين انعمت عليهم‬, we are directly
communicating with Allah and asking for his help in taking us to the straight path.
The path of the Prophet (PBUH), Sahabas (RA), and those who succeeded in both
this world and hereafter.

“‫ط ا ْل ُم ْستَقي َم‬

َ ‫ص َرا‬
ِّ ‫”ا ْهدنَا ال‬
“May God lead us to the straight Path”
The verse is shaped with an incredible collection of words. We are asking God to
help us lead to the right path that can achieve us the ultimate success. One may
ask, what is the right path?

The Holy Quran Says

“Have You (O Muhammad) not seen those (hypocrites) who make allies of people,
with whom Allah has become angry”. (I.e. Jews) Al Quran 58:14

Allah says to his people to follow the guidelines assigned to you in the Holy Quran
and by his Prophet (PBUH). At the same time, he warned you of the devils’ way
that will lead us to the astray.
So what’s the point of asking God for help?

Aspects Of The Ayah

There are 3 aspects of this Ayah:

In order to follow the true path and acquire success in this world and hereafter, a
man needs Allah’s help in every step of his life. No one can achieve anything
without the help of Allah. It is the concept of ignorant who believe they achieve
things on their own; however, this is just absurd.
When we say, “we proclaim that oh Allah only you can lead us to the straight
path”.
Allah Knows His Person That He Can Mislead Anytime
In this world, everything is so attractive and beautiful which removes away our
attention from the right path. Allah has created devil that is always busy in getting
us mislead from the right path. With the creation of devil, it is very difficult to
walk firmly on Allah’s teaching. Therefore, in this verse, we are praying to Allah
that to help us follow the right path and protect us from the Devil’s mission.

God Has Made 2 Paths ‘Way To Jannah’ And ‘Way To Jahannum’

This verse also completes our faith that this world is an exam. God has shown us
the right way and the way of those who failed. It is up to us whether to choose the
one that will help us achieve success in both this world and hereafter or to choose
the one that will lead us to astray.
“‫ط ا َّلذينَ َأ ْن َع ْمتَ َع َليْه ْم‬
َ ‫”ص َرا‬

“The way of those on whom Thou hast bestowed Thy Grace”

This verse is giving us examples of those who succeeded in this world and
hereafter. They are the ones who followed the teachings of God and his Prophet
(PBUH) and were given the glad tidings in this world.
Among the successful people who were given the glad tidings in this world
includes the blessed Companions of the Holy Prophet (PBUH): The 10 individuals
who were promised paradise in this world are known as “Ashara Mubashara:

1. Hazrat Abu Bakar,
2. Hazrat Umar
3. Hazrat Usman
4. Hazrat Ali,
5. Hazrat Talha
6. Hazrat Zubayr
7. Hazrat AbdurRahman
8. Hazrat Saad Bin Abi Waqas
9. Hazrat Sa’id Ibn Zayd
10. Hazrat Abu Ubaiydah
These were the great companions of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) who sacrificed
everything for Allah. They stood firm in the way of Allah and help Prophet
Muhammad succeed in his mission.
In this verse, we are asking for the same success or glad tidings that Oh Allah!
Help us follow the path of those who succeeded in this World and are promised of
a greater fortune in the hereafter. May Allah help us to follow the path of Prophet
Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions (RA).
