Abacus 5 tubing guide

This guide was created to help service engineers to repair or refurbish five part analyzers by changing
used or dirty tubing of the unit to a new set. Tubing is an important and sensitive part of the
analyzer. The length, diameter and material of the tubing are very important to ensure the correct
function of the unit. It is highly recommended to use the defined tube types and solutions given in
this guide. Non-compliance in the use of the recommended tubing system could create overflow and
damage electical parts of the unit.

The shear valve tubing is not included in this guide.

Content of the guide:

- Total tube system on the valve block (tube types with length and part number)

- Preparing of "T" type tubes

- Step by step process how to connect the tubes

- Graphics to show how the tubing should be installed

Tools needed:

- Dry cloth or towel

- Cutter

- Ruler or tape measure

Note: Sections of the tubing system can be also changed by using this guide

Warning
The original tubing system may contain human sample, clot and infective particles. Before removing
any tubing, it is highly recommended to prime cleaner solution through the unit by connecting
cleaner to all the inlets. Make stress or blank measurements to remove these particles to make
removal of the tubing more safe.

When re-tubing an analyzer always do this with completely drained system. Preparing for shipment is
highly recommended before removing the tubing (after cleaning is ready).

The removed tubing parts are highly biohazard material so place all removed tubing and parts into a
Biohazardous material container.
Preparing of the "T" tubes:

The system contains tubes connected to a plastic junction. These tubes are called "T" tubes and they
are pre-defined to make the tubing exchange faster. Creating these tubes is necessary before starting
the exchange of the tubing. The "T" tubes are indicated with letter T and the identification number.

Junctions in the tubing system:

small "T" junction part number (A5451) Not needed for valve block tubing

middle "T" junction part number (A556) in T0, T1, T2, T3, T5, T7, T12, T16

large "T" junction part number (A545) in T4, T6, T9, T10, T11,

"Y" junction part number (A546) in T2, T3, T8, T13, T14, T15, T16

During the procedure, the tube data is indicated between () signs. (order number, external/internal
diameter, tube material) Please use the images and the steps in combination.

Step by step guide:

Step1.1:

Locate the hole on the bottom right side of the valve door. Pass the two tubes (A542, 6/3, silicon)
connected to the pumps through the hole. Both tubes should have the converter (A547, 3.2/3.2) at
the end as shown on the image below. 20 cm tube is connected to pump 1's (outer pump) top, 50 cm
tube is connected to pump 2's (internal pump) top.

Step1.2:

Connect the 35 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) to valve 13/3 and connect the other end to the
converter (A547, 3.2/3.2) on pump tube 50 cm.

Step1.3:

Connect the other 35 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) to valve 14/3 and connect the other end to the
converter (A547, 3.2/3.2) on pump tube 20 cm.

Step1.4:

Connect the 56 cm tube (A5401, 4/2, RCT-NOVA-971) to valve Diff 5 P puffer reservoir's bottom front
inlet. Thread the other end through the hole (to pumps), under the pumps through the tube holders
and to the Diff 5 P metal inlet.

Step1.5:

Connect the 73 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) with green marker to valve 16/3. Thread the other end
through the hole (to pumps), under the pumps through the tube holders and to Diluent metal inlet.

Step1.6:

Attach tube "T0" to valve 1/3 (10 cm) and valve 12/2 (4 cm). Thread the unattached end through the
hole (To glass reservoir's bottom) and attach it to the bottom inlet of the glass reservoir.

Step1.7:

Connect the other 52 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) with yellow marker to Lyse reservoir's bottom
front inlet. Thread the other end of the tube through the hole (to pumps) under the pumps through
the tube holders and to the Lyse metal inlet.

Step2.1:

Connect a 22 cm tube to valve 3/2 and lead the other end through the hole (to glass reservoir's top)
and attach it to the glass reservoir's top inlet. Note that some glass reservoirs has two inlets on the
top. In this case "T13" should have a "Y" junction added with 2,5 cm and 7 cm on the two ends, so
both glass reservoir’s inlets can be covered with tygon. See the image below.

Step2.2:

If washing head has two inlets:

Connect the "T" fitting middle of tube "T5" to valve 13/1 (2 cm) and 14/1 (4 cm). Pass the other end
of the tube (119 cm with the red mark) above the reservoirs, under the dilutors to the XY unit and
attach it to the washing head's top inlet. Use the tube holders attached to the frame to grip the tube.

If washing head has 3 inlets:

The long tube of "T5" is 114 cm. Add an "Y" junction to this tube with 5 cm tube on both other ends.
Connect these 5 cm tubes to the top and bottom inlet of the washing head.

Step2.3:

Connect the 108 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) to valve 18/2 and pass the other end of the tube above
the reservoirs, under the dilutors to the XY unit and attach it to the washing head's bottom inlet.

If washing head has 3 inlets:

Connect the same tube to the middle inlet of the washing head.

Step2.4:

Connect the 25 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) to valve 24/1. The other end of the tube should have a
converter (2.3/1.6). This end will be connected to the shear valve with 30 cm tube (A5433, 2.23/1.27,
tygon).

Step 2.5:

Connect valve 17/1 and valve 18/3 with an 5 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon).

Step 2.6:

Connect valve 14/2 and valve 15/3 with a 4 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon).

Step 2.7:

Connect valve 43/2 and valve 44/3 with a 4 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon).

Connect valve 41/2 to valve 30/3 with a 14 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) as shown on the image
below.

Step 10.4:

Connect valve 40/2 to valve 29/3 with a 14 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) as shown on the image
below.

Step 10.5:

Connect a 5 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) with 1.6/2.3 converter to valve 28/2. The converter will be
connected to the tube transition 5th pin with 20 cm tube (A5433, 2.23/1.27, tygon).

Step 10.6:

Connect "T15" 23 cm long tube (single end) to valve 23/1. Connect both 10 cm tubes on the other
side of the "Y" junction to the vacuum reservoir's bottom inlets.

Step 10.7:

Connect a 2 cm tube (A543, 4/1.8, tygon) with 1.6/2.3 converter to valve 32/1. The converter will be
connected to the tube transition 6th pin with 14 cm tube (A5433, 2.23/1.27, tygon).

Step 11:

Connect dilutor pistons with the appropriate valves according to the image. Use same tube (A543,
4/1.8, tygon) as in the valves. Valve 38 to dilutor piston is a different type (A5401, 4/2, RCT-NOVA-
971).
