Attendance:
School starts at 9:05 AM students arriving after this time must be checked into the office to be allowed in the classroom.
Please contact the office concerning absences or upcoming absences.

Grading: 6th Grade follows the PBG standard set by the district. Students will be given number grades from 1-4. 4 is the
highest grade they can achieve and 1 is the lowest.

Focus of Learning: See attached page that lists the what we expect our students to learn by the end of the year.

PBG Grading: T-he Granite District proficiency-based grading model is designed around the premise that grades are
intended to communicate progress toward mastery of articulated course content standards to students and parents. They
are intended to indicate at a prescribed moment in time what a student knows and is able to do with respect to course
objectives that have been explicitly taught. They encourage the student to act on feedback and the teacher to adjust and
individualize instruction.

Communications: The preferred method to contact your teacher is through their email. Please refer to 6th grade’s website
for notices and activities.

Volunteers: If you wish to volunteer please let your child’s teacher know of your desire and allow time for the teacher to
incorporate you in their lesson plans. There will also be opportunities for you to volunteer outside the classroom (ex.
Cutting lamination, prepping materials, multicultural night, literacy night, art night)

Field Trips: Permission slips for field trips will be sent home in a timely manner. We expect permission slips to be
returned the day before the event.

Birthdays: As a class we will celebrate your child’s birthday. If you wish to bring a treat for your child please leave it
with the office and the treats will be passed out at the end of the day. Please do not bring balloons of any type.

Parent Meetings: There are two SEP conferences during the school year. We encourage all our parents to come so that
we may visit and discuss your child’s grades and behavior. 6th Grade is planning on quarterly academic projects that
parents are invited to attend with their child.

Home Visits: 6th Grade teachers will be conducting home visits if you want to schedule a home visit please contact your
child’s teacher.

Newsletter (website) Please refer to our 6th Grade website for our newsletter which will be updated on a monthly basis.

Dress Code: 6th Grade follows the dress code as stated in the Student Handbook.
Homework:
Students are expected to complete nightly homework. The student must also have their planner signed once a week by his
or her parent/guardian. Planners are due each Monday. Students will be given plenty of time to complete assignments in
class. Certain assignments not finished in class is considered homework and must be brought back the following school
day. Students will be allowed to make-up missing assignments and tests.

Behavior:
Each day a student’s planner will be marked with their behavior for the day.
There are 8 levels of behavior (+3, +2, +1, 0, -1, -2, -3, -4,).
● Levels +3, +2, and +1 indicates that the student’s behavior was good. Students receive incentives for good behavior.
● Level 0: All students begin at the level everyday.
● Level -1: Step One - After being given a verbal warning, student will clip down for behavior and spend time (max 15
min.) in calm down space in the classroom
● Level -2: Step Two – Student clipped down, went to another classroom to have think time and fill out paper on
behavior, and had behavior logged in Educator’s Handbook*
● Level -3: Step Three – Student sent to calm down room, participated with an adult to identify better behavior
solutions, and had behavior logged in Educator’s Handbook*
● Level -4: Step Four – Student sent to office for behavior, instance logged in Educator’s Handbook*, and must call
home to explain their behavior
*Educator’s Handbook is where behavior is written up and tracked so that if behaviors continue we can see trends and be able to help the student
better with their behavior
