A. General Requirements (SAES-N-110 procedure, Section 9)

Checklist SAIC-N-2024 was completed & accepted for Pre-Application

A1 As Referenced
requirements related to Pneumatic (Gunned application) refractory.

Correct Material & Application Method is being used for equipment

A2 As Referenced
with gunned refractory per SAES-N-100, Tables 2 & 3. See Note 1.

B. Mixing Refractory for Pneumatic Applications (SAES-N-110 Procedure, Section 9)

SAES-N-110,
B1 Mixing of refractory materials is done in a paddle type mixer.
Para. 9.3.1
Only full contents of refractory bags or drums are placed in the mixer. SAES-N-110,
B2
Fractional parts of the bag or drum are not used. Para. 9.3.2

Dry gunning application method is being used. Wet gunning application SAES-N-110,
B3
has received approval of the Saudi Aramco Engineer. Para. 9.3.3

When fiber reinforcement is used, the fibers were added to the mixer SAES-N-110,
B4
through a wire mesh screen with approximately 12 mm openings. Para. 9.3.4
SAES-N-110,
B5 Refractory is used within 15 minutes of mixing (time of water applied)
Para. 9.3.5

C. Application of Pneumatically Applied Refractory (SAES-N-110 Procedure, Section 9)

Only qualified personnel who are thoroughly experienced with pneumatic SAES-N-110,
C1
application of refractory lining are doing the work. Para. 9.4.1

The proper minimum air pressure to assure adequate refractory SAES-N-110,

C2
compaction is used (as determined by testing prior to application). Para. 9.4.2

Gun nozzles are sized properly enabling "nozzleman" to control the SAES-N-110,
C3
application and maneuver in confined spaces. Para. 9.4.3
SAES-N-110,
C4 Nozzleman is shooting at right angles to surfaces being lined.
Para. 9.4.4
SAES-N-110,
C5 Water supply & air pressure remain constant during application.
Para. 9.4.5
Rebound material ahead of "nozzleman" is removed to prevent inclusion SAES-N-110,
C6
in the lining. Para. 9.4.6
SAES-N-110,
C7 Under no circumstances is rebound material reused.
Para. 9.4.7
For each specific band all rebound & loose material is removed from the
SAES-N-110,
C8 surface before application of next band is started & no rebound material
Para. 9.4.8
is allowed to accumulate at any point where lining is already applied.

In vertical vessels & piping, lining is applied circumferentially in narrow

SAES-N-110,
C9 bands starting at bottom & proceeding upwards with full final thickness
Para. 9.4.9
permitted to develop in each band before the next band is applied.

In no case is a thickness applied that is less than the thickness that is
SAES-N-110,
C10 specified to allow the applied lining to develop into initial set.
Para. 9.4.9
The required thickness is not built up in layers.
In large vessels & piping, where height of the bands needed to provide
SAES-N-110,
C11 effective bonding is too small to be practical, sectionalizing or multiple
Para. 9.4.10
crews is performed to meet Paragraph 9.4.9 (Item C10 item above).
Top of each band is cut back to shell with a steel trowel using a cut with
SAES-N-110,
C12 a right angle to the shell at a location where full refractory thickness is
Para. 9.4.11
applied with all refractory above this location removed & discarded.
The bottom of each successive band is securely bonded to the top of the SAES-N-110,
C13
preceding band before the latter has developed an initial set. Para. 9.4.11
Horizontal equipment utilizes the same general procedures unless the SAES-N-110,
C14
horizontal equipment is rotated for casting or gunning in the flat position. Para. 9.4.12
The lining is screeded to the final required thickness after placement &
SAES-N-110,
C15 any deficiencies are immediately corrected.
Para. 9.4.13
Smoothing, trowelling, and floating are not permitted.
When application is interrupted before completion of entire lining, any
refractory applied at thickness less than full thickness is removed by SAES-N-110,
C16
cutting back to shell with a steel trowel using a beveled cut into adjacent Para. 9.4.14
lining by approximately 10° with all material above the line discarded.
During a period of interruption in application, the curing of the lining that SAES-N-110,
C17
has already been applied may be completed. Para. 9.4.15
Immediately prior to resuming application, the exposed surface of lining SAES-N-110,
C18
to which a bond must be made is thoroughly wetted with a quality water. Para. 9.4.16

D. In-Process Inspection & Testing

Inspection & Testing was performed per SAES-N-110 Procedure & SA SAES-N-110,
D1
Inspection Requirement Form 175-328110. See Attachment 1. Para. 11.1.1
Production test samples (2) were taken once per shift or each change
SAES-N-110,
D2 of nozzleman/installer (1 sample to lab, 1 sample properly stored/cured)
Para. 11.3.1
Refractory being gunned has samples cut from a gunned panel.
Refractory Installer keeps an accurate log of installation so that location
SAES-N-110,
D3 of refractory that is presented by the production samples can be
Para. 11.3.5
determined in case it becomes necessary to remove this refractory.
