Technical and commercial requirements

ƒ LTA is applicable for any GT10/SGT-600.

ƒ Limits may apply for engines with third-party spares and third-party repairs.
ƒ Parts of different design may influence life of surrounding parts – therefore
this restriction is needed.
ƒ Have to be evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
ƒ Life Time Extension currently only offered as part of service contract.

Experiences and future development

ƒ Approximately 10 LTA inspections carried out so far (Europe, North America).

ƒ Customer interest in LTA higher than expected.
ƒ Delivery time for LTA reports is currently unsatisfactory.
ƒ LTAs already carried out may have prevented severe equipment failures.
ƒ A LTA is a useful way to determine the condition of the GT10/SGT-600 as a
basis for future decisions.
ƒ It’s not only about the hot section parts!!!

ƒ Next steps.
ƒ Reduce lead time for LTA report delivery.
ƒ Investigate possibilities beyond 160 000 EOH.
ƒ…

Conclusion

ƒ Life extension can be a cost effective way to continue GT operation beyond

original design life.
ƒ Main purpose of life extension is mitigation of health risks and prevention of
major failures.
ƒ In the most cost effective way.
ƒ Auxiliaries and controls equipment need to be considered.
ƒ Scope of life extension will be site dependent.
ƒ Minimum: continued operation with only replacement of regular spare parts.
ƒ Maximum: replace unit with new equipment.
ƒ Detailed knowledge of operation history will reduce total cost.
ƒ Siemens analysis & optimisation capacity needs to be extended.
ƒ Siemens continues to develop the Life Time Extension product for
SGT-600.
