Global Change

For 2.5 million years the Earth's climate has fluctuated, cycling from ice ages to warmer periods. In the
last century the planets temperature has risen unusually fast. Scientists believe that it's human activity
that's driving the temperatures up, a process known as global warming. Ever since the industrial
revolution began, factories, powerplants and eventually cars have burned fossil fuels such as oil and coal,
releasing huge amounts of carbon dioxide and other gases into the atmosphere. These greenhouse gases
trap heat near the Earth through a naturally occuring process called the greenhouse effect. Global
warming could do more than just melt polar ice. It could change our maps, and displace people from cities
and tropical islands. Historically, every time carbon dioxide levels increase in Earth's atmosphere, the
average surface temperature increases, ice melts, and the seas rice. It will gradually continue to get
warmer and storms will grow more intense, with longer perioda of drought in between. If emissions
continue to rise unchecked, the climate disasters will be so severe they will destabilize entire nations. All
this could take centuries, but something like the sudden collapse of agriculture would trigger immediate
chaos in society. Best case is we get our act together and begin to rapidly bring emission levels down.
Earth turna out to be less sensitive to greenhouse gases than we currently believe, plants and animals
adapt quickly, and major technological breakthroughs help society limit emissions and adjust to climate
change. These are all the opposite of what we're actually seeing, so the only thing in our control is to limit
emissions using all available tools. Worst case, the collapse of food production causes spiraling prices and
as our capitalist utopia breaks down, billions starve as our world gets violent and messy real quick.
Effects of Technology in Society

Technology has been the backbone of our world ever since its gradual discovery. Individuals have
succeeded in assisting the progress of modern technology. As we entered the modern age, our society has
somehow managed to use it on their every whims. This type of advancement have putted us ubder certain
types of assistance. Effects of technology can be felt through our daily lives. The good side of technology
blessed us with convenience and efficiency. Transportations throughout the ages have been upgraded
excellently to provide safer places for us. Comparing the 18th century to the present, informations that
haven't been discovered back then and was restricted to the world can be easily accessed today.
Communication in the medieval times is a long process but now with small taps, a message can be
received across the world in a matter of seconds. Technology is a great invention that helped mankind
reach multiple possibilities that no one would even think of. While the advancement of technology aided
us in our life, it also created effects that is unpleasant to society. Abuse of technology led to rivalry.
Accidents happen due to misuse of equipments. Health conditions are contracted due to radiation
occuring in them. Technology can be useful but we must take great caution in utilizing it. Overall the
effects of technology in our society has been good and bad nonetheless.
The Island is a movie set in a dystopian reality where clones are manufactured to compensate for their
sponsor. The clones who reside in the facility are unaware of the fact that the lottery they are supposedly
winning in order to live in an island that is separated from the outside world is actually a process that
chooses the clones to be used as a guarantor of their sponsors. If the world that the clones are living in is
real, it would be a terrifying place to live in. Imagine the possibilities of a secluded territory where
artificial versions of ourselves are groomed to someday relieve ourselves of our difficulties. The alarming
potentiality of a group that is capable of achieving this advancement could weaponize these beings into
starting a catastrophic event. In the world of forms these beings could have envisioned themselves as
humans living in peace and prosperity residing in their imaginative utopia called The Island, but at the
ending it was showed that they escaped the facility. It would be to live their lives or take the identity of
their sponsor, we would never know but one thing's for sure and it is that they are finally unbound of a
system that has been controlling them ever since they were born.
