7. HANDLING AND STORAGE

______________________________________________________________________________
____

Liquid evaporates and forms vapor (fumes) which can catch fire and burn
with explosive force. Invisible vapor spreads easily and can be set on

Revision Number: 3 Revision Date: 03/06/02 MSDS Number: 005851

Recycle Oil Page 6 of 11

fire by many sources such as pilot lights, welding equipment, and

electrical motors and switches. Fire hazard is greater as liquid
temperature rises above 85F.

The hydrocarbon solvent in this product may accumulate at flammable or

explosive levels in the headspace of storage containers. Do not use or
store near heat, sparks, or open flames. Use or store only in a
well-ventilated area. Keep container closed when material is not in use.

Avoid work practices that may release volatile components into the
atmosphere. Local air pollution regulations should be consulted to
determine if the release of volatile components is regulated or restricted
in the area in which this material is used.

Electrostatic charge may accumulate and create a hazardous condition when

handling this material. To minimize this hazard, bonding and grounding may
be necessary but may not, by themselves, be sufficient. Review all
operations which have the potential of generating an accumulation of
electrostatic charge and/or a flammable atmosphere (including tank and
container filling, splash filling, tank cleaning, sampling, gauging,
switch loading, filtering, mixing, agitation, and vacuum truck operations)
and use appropriate mitigating procedures. For more information, refer to
OSHA Standard 29 CFR 1910.106, "Flammable and Combustible Liquids",
National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 77, "Recommended Practice on
Static Electricity", and/or the American Petroleum Institute (API)
Recommended Practice 2003, "Protection Against Ignitions Arising Out of
Static, Lightning, and Stray Currents".

Container is not designed to contain pressure. Do not use pressure to

empty container or it may rupture with explosive force. Empty containers
retain product residue (solid, liquid, and/or vapor) and can be dangerous.
Do not pressurize, cut, weld, braze, solder, drill, grind, or expose such
containers to heat, flame, sparks, static electricity, or other sources of
ignition. They may explode and cause injury or death. Empty containers
should be completely drained, properly closed, and promptly returned to a
drum reconditioner, or properly disposed of. Avoid contaminating soil or
releasing this material into sewage and drainage systems and bodies of
water. Do not get in eyes, on skin, or on clothing. Do not taste or
swallow. Wash thoroughly after handling. Do not breathe vapor or fumes.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

______________________________________________________________________________
____

GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS:
Consider the potential hazards of this material (see Section 3),
applicable exposure limits, job activities, and other substances in the
work place when designing engineering controls and selecting personal
protective equipment. If engineering controls or work practices are not
adequate to prevent exposure to harmful levels of this material, the
personal protective equipment listed below is recommended. The user should
read and understand all instructions and limitations supplied with the
equipment since protection is usually provided for a limited time or under
certain circumstances.

Revision Number: 3 Revision Date: 03/06/02 MSDS Number: 005851

ENGINEERING CONTROLS
Use process enclosures, local exhaust ventilation, or other engineering
controls to control airborne levels below the recommended exposure limits.

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT

EYE/FACE PROTECTION:
Wear eye protection such as safety glasses, chemical goggles, or face
shields if engineering controls or work practices are not adequate to
prevent eye contact.
SKIN PROTECTION:
Wear impervious protective clothing to prevent skin contact. Selection of
protective clothing may include gloves, apron, boots, and complete facial
protection and will depend on operations conducted. Users should
determine acceptable performance characteristics of protective clothing.
Consider physical requirements and other substances present when selecting
protective clothing. Suggested materials for protective gloves include:
<Viton> <Nitrile> <Silver Shield>
RESPIRATORY PROTECTION:
Determine if airborne concentrations are below the recommended exposure
limits. If not, wear a NIOSH approved respirator that provides adequate
protection from measured concentrations of this material. Use the
following respirators: Use a positive pressure, air-supplying respirator
if there is potential for uncontrolled release, exposure levels are not
known, or other circumstances where air-purifying respirators may not
provide adequate protection.

11. TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

______________________________________________________________________________
____

EYE EFFECTS:
The eye irritation hazard is based on an evaluation of the data for the
components.
SKIN EFFECTS:
The skin irritation hazard is based on an evaluation of the data for the
components.
ACUTE ORAL EFFECTS:
The acute oral toxicity is based on an evaluation of the data for the
components.
ACUTE INHALATION EFFECTS:
The acute respiratory toxicity is based on an evaluation of the data for
the components.
ADDITIONAL TOXICOLOGY INFORMATION:
This product contains chlorinated paraffin. A similar chlorinated
paraffin caused an increase in tumors when given in very high oral doses
to mice and rats for the duration of their lifespans. The significance to
man of the results of this study is not known. We believe that low level
or infrequent exposure to this material is not likely to cause cancer or
other serious disease.

This product contains tricresylphosphate (TCP). When given to hens in

oral doses as low as 75 mg/kg, TCP caused delayed nerve damage
characterized by loss of coordination and difficulty in walking.
Continuous dermal exposure to 50 mg/kg of this material for 5 days/week
for 4 weeks caused similar nerve damage in hens. Evaluations of the
manufacturer's workers who make TCP and similar chemicals have not
demonstrated any unusual pattern of mortality or disease. We believe that
there is little to no risk of nerve damage to workers who handle this
product when the precautions outlined in this MSDS and on the product
label are strictly followed.

This product contains synthetic base oils not refined from petroleum base
stocks. The potential of base oil prepared by this process to cause
cancer has not been specifically addressed by the OSHA Hazard
Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200), the International Agency for
Research on Cancer (IARC), nor the National Toxicology Program (NTP)
Annual Report. However, the process conditions, chemical analysis, and
the results of mutagenicity tests all support our opinion that these oils
should not cause skin cancer.

This product contains petroleum base oils which may be refined by various
processes including severe solvent extraction, severe hydrocracking, or
severe hydrotreating. None of the oils requires a cancer warning under
the OSHA Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200). These oils
have not been listed in the National Toxicology Program (NTP) Annual
Report nor have they been classified by the International Agency for

Revision Number: 3 Revision Date: 03/06/02 MSDS Number: 005851

Recycle Oil Page 9 of 11

Research on Cancer (IARC) as; carcinogenic to humans (Group 1), probably

carcinogenic to humans (Group 2A), or possibly carcinogenic to humans
(Group 2B).

No association has been established between industrial exposure to

petroleum asphalt and cancer in humans. The International Agency for
Research on Cancer (IARC) reviewed the carcinogenic potential of asphalts
in monograph 35. They concluded that there was insufficient evidence that
undiluted, air-refined asphalt was carcinogenic to animals, while there
was only limited evidence that steam-refined asphalts were carcinogenic to
animals. Additionally, there was insufficient evidence to conclude that
asphalts were carcinogenic to human beings. Studies in which mice were
exposed to a variety of whole asphalts did not result in any increased
cancer rate; mice exposed to asphalts diluted with hydrocarbon solvents
had increased incidence of certain types of cancer. The petroleum solvent
contained in this product may increase the potential for cancer following
prolonged and repeated skin contact. Brief or intermittent skin contact
with this asphalt product is not expected to produce any delayed effects.
While normal handling of this product is not likely to cause cancer in
humans, skin contact and breathing of mists, fumes or vapors should be
reduced to a minimum.

This product contains a mixture of petroleum hydrocarbons called middle

distillates (which means they boil between approximately 350F and 700F).
Because of this broad description, many products are considered middle
distillates yet they are produced by a variety of different petroleum
refining processes. Examples of middle distillates include kerosene,
diesel fuel and jet fuel. Dermal treatment with some middle distillates
resulted in the formation of skin tumors when repeatedly applied to mice
over most of their lifetime. Other studies indicate that pure middle
distillates are not genotoxic and that chronic skin irritation is
necessary for the skin tumor response to occur. Petroleum middle
distillates are not listed as carcinogenic by the IARC, EPA, NTP, or OSHA.
