IV. Project Description According to 2006 World Report on Violence against Children revealed that
1. Indicate child right/s physical maltreatment of children in their homes is a global issue affecting
violations that the millions of children worldwide. Much physical violence against children
activity aims to takes the form of punishment and is often embedded in a cultural belief that
address to include children learn through physical pain. The Report recommends the
gender inequalities in elimination of all corporal punishment of children and the promotion of non-
the targeted area. violent, positive discipline (Positive Discipline in Every Day Parenting Book,
Joan Durrant, Ph.D).
2. Specify the status of
capacity of duty Based on studies, physical and emotional harm experienced by children
bearer/s to respect, have effects and impact on their behavior, attitudes and their character as
protect and fulfill child they process to grow and mature. Often, children who were exposed to
rights mentioned in 1. discipline with the form of punishments tend to imitate the same behavior to
their co-children and in the latter part practice the same way of discipline to
their own children as they become parents. When in fact, role modelling
and the right way of discipline should start with the parents. Unfortunately
due to strong beliefs and cultures with regards to disciplining children some
parents often resorts to punishments in order to correct behavior and wrong
acts of their children. Where at present, the kind of punishment is still
practiced especially the family of disciplinarian. As a result, children from
this kind of families tend to rebel against their parents and are more likely to
engage in risky behaviors. These behaviors of children are sometimes
associated to commit bullying and physical harm to other children.
Children to children violence often are recorded in the school setting. The
situation is considered to be alarming since the risky behavior of children
might lead them to a more serious offense or even to commit crimes.
Hence, awareness on Positive Discipline in Every Day Parenting will
contribute to intervene in the parenting skills of the parents, duty bearers
and the schools. It will also give light to changing the previous way of
discipline to starting to practice positive discipline.
Therefore, as one of the activities implemented under the child protection
program particularly on the flagship program on aiming for gender equality
and teenage pregnancy prevention and awareness, the activity was
realized as one way to achieving the programs goal with the partnership of
the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) and the
Province. This will also aim to capacitate the duty bearers in implementing
