7.0 PIPING ADDITIONAL IDENTIFYING STRIP
7.0.1 For all pipework an additional identifying strip is to be fixed to the pipe as allowed by the
standard. Where the pipe is insulated the strip is to be attached to the cladding. When the pipe
size is very small, the strip is to be affixed by a suitable flag off the pipe in accordance with the
standard. The following method of colour coding is to be used.
a) The background colour of the pipe is to be as per the standard.
b) An identifying strip is to be fixed to the pipe at the intervals recommended by the
standard. The identifying strip is to have coloured lettering on a white background. The
coloured lettering is to be in accordance with the mimic colours.
c) The arrow indicating the direction of flow shall be the same colour as the lettering on
the identifying strip.
d) Where necessary, warning flags are to be located at the ends of the identifying strip in
accordance with the standard.
7.0.2 Medium name, medium flow direction arrow
It must paint with medium name, medium flow direction arrow at elbow, both side of wall or
other penetrated section, branch and where the pipelines are difficult to distinguish.
The location and shape of medium name and flow direction arrow see diagram 1 and dimension
data see table 1. The angle of medium flow direction arrow is 60°.

Two directions should be marked when medium flow direction has two kinds of possibility.
The color of medium name and flow direction arrow shall be according to the shade of pipe
surface color, adopt contrary black or white to paint.
