The expert discussed Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) as a class of

artificial intelligence algorithms used in unsupervised machine learning. They
were introduced by Ian Goodfellow in 2014. He also illustrated Robust
Principal Component Analysis (RPCA) which is a modification of the principal
component analysis that aims to recover a low-rank matrix L0 from highly
corrupted measurements M = L0 +S0.
Session 3: 3.45-5.45 Dr. Mukesh Zaveri: SVNIT: EM Algorithm
The speaker explained the expectation–maximization (EM) algorithm as an
iterative method to find maximum likelihood or maximum a-posteriori
estimates of parameters, where the model depends on unobserved variables.
19-12-2017
Session 1: 10.30-12.30, Prof. Kiran Trivedi, SSEC, Bhavnagar : Gender
Detection using CNN
He motivated the audience for pragmatic approach of learning the algorithms in
Machine Learning. He nicely illustrated the application of Convolutional Neural
Networks in gender detection application.
Session 2: 1.30-3.30, Dr. Priyank Thakkar, Nirma University: Supervised and
Unsupervised Learning
The expert discussed the fundamental concepts of supervised and unsupervised
learning schemes through examples.
Session 3: 3.45-5.45, Dr. Priyanka Sharma, Nirma University: Machine learning
for Video classification and Summarization
The speaker discussed application of machine learning in video classification
and video summarization.
20-12-2017
Session 1: 10.30-12.30 Dr. Swati Jain, Nirma University: CNN
The expert nicely explained the concept of Convolutional Neural Networks, one
of the deep learning algorithms.
Session 2: 1.30-3.30PM, Dr. Jitendra Chaudhari, CHARUSAT, Changa:
Dimensionality Reduction Techniques

The speaker explained how dimensionality can be reduced in PCA.

Session 3: 3.45-5.45 PM, Dr. Brijesh Bhatt, Dharamsinh Desai University:
SVM
He explained Support Vector Machine (SVM) as a supervised machine learning
algorithm which can be used for both classification and regression challenges.
However, it is mostly used in classification problems.
21-12-2017:

Session 1: 10.30-12.30, Session 2: 01.30-03.30 PM, Mr Amit Doshi, Math

Works: Deep Learning
This speaker was from industry and he explained about different functionalities
available in the Matlab tool for developing machine learning based application /
solution. The second session was used for giving hands on experience to the
audience. He gave simple assignments to the participants.

Session 3: 03.30-05.30
Yash M. Vasavada: DA-IICT: Linear and Nonlinear Algorithms for estimation
and detection.
Dr. Vasavada introduced linear and non-linear algorithms of machine learning.
He told that one aspect of learning this domain is to get insights of how
amazingly our human brain works. He explained that the gradient descent
procedure could be used for solving variety of problems. He explained different
applications on which he worked himself.

22-12-2017:
Session 1: 10.00-12.15 PM, Dr. Amit Ganatra, CSPIT, Changa: Software Tools

Feedback:
Feedback from the participants were collected on Moodle tool. The analysis is
attached herewith. Following is the gist of the analysis:
• All the participants have appreciated the planning of this event. Almost all
have appreciated the quality and pace of the program. For many of them it
was their selected area of their research and they really enjoyed it.
• We have received one remark about giving more stress on hands on
sessions.
• Accordingly to some feedback, the seating arrangement was not
comfortable.
