Resume
Curriculum Vitae (CV)

An in-depth document that can be laid out over two or


more pages and it contains a high level of detail about
a person’s achievements, a great deal more than just a
career biography. The CV covers education as well as
any other accomplishments like publications, awards,
honours etc.
Resume

A resume, or résumé, is a concise document typically


not longer than one page as the intended the reader
will not dwell on the document for very long. The goal
of a resume is to make an individual stand out from the
competition.

Heading
• Name
• Address
• E-mail Address
• Phone number
Heading
• Make sure that your name STANDS OUT by using
bold and enlarging font size of your name
• Use a professional email address
• Do not use email addresses such as:
crzyboi@yahoo.com, aryastark4life@gmail.com
Objective

• One sentence declaration of the type of job a person


is seeking
• Placed just beneath the heading and should be AS
SPECIFIC AS POSSIBLE
Education
• List down all the Colleges/ University you have
graduated from along with their addresses, degrees
you’ve earned and date you attained them.
• If a degree is still on-going, specify the target date
and year of completion
• DO NOT INCLUDE SECONDARY LEVEL unless
beneficial to the position applying for
Experience
• Refers to paid or unpaid jobs
• Should include job title, name of employer, address,
and dates/years of employment
• Summarize contributions to the position,
achievements and responsibility assumed
• Summarization is not of the JOB DESCRIPTION but
of the accomplishments and achievements. If none,
omit this section
Honors and Awards
• Optional
• School or non-school related awards, honors and
recognitions
• Include date in which honor and award were
received
Skills/ Highlights
• Inform the reader of any unique, relevant and necessary
skills that are not reflected in the other sections of the
resume

References
• This should be placed on a separate sheet that
MATCHES THE FONT AND FORMAT OF THE RESUME
AND COVER LETTER

• Use bullet points in emphasizing achievements
• Use appropriate action verbs

• Strictly follow the format of a formal letter
• Opening paragraph should state why you are willing
and how you became particularly attracted to this
particular company/ institution and position
• Middle paragraph should draw attention to your
qualifications and experiences that are relevant to
the employer
• Closing paragraph should indicate your desire for a
personal interview

• ALWAYS SIGN YOUR COVER LETTER
• Provide potential employer an ORIGINAL COPY of a
cover letter specifically formulated for them and not
a PHOTOCOPIED PRINTOUT.

• Online image must be congruent with your actual

• Always bring a pen
• Present your most excellent Physical Image

• Business Casual Attire for women
• Solid color or conservative print
• Skirts should be knee length and should not be too
tight
• Slits to facilitate walking is good, slits to show off
legs is a No-No
• Accessories are acceptable provided that they are
not distracting

How to answer
• Always listen carefully to the question, ask for
clarification if necessary
• Your resume will serve as a good guide when
answering interview questions
• Make your answer short, straight and concise.
Depending on the depth of the question, answers
should take approximately 30 seconds to 2 minutes.

• Avoid, as much as possible, using slang and filler

website, facebook page or read any literature

• What were the circumstances that made you choose
your course? Major?
• What class did you like best? Least? Why?
• Do your grades accurately reflect your ability? Why
or why not?
Questions concerning Experience
• What were the circumstances that made you leave your
previous employer?
• What are the things you have learned from your previous
job that you would like to bring and impart to our
students?
• If I’m going to be one of your subordinates, what are
your qualities that I should be wary/ impressed of?
• Describe your most rewarding experience from college/
your previous employer?
Questions concerning Motivation
• What are the most important rewards you expect in
your career as a teacher?
• Among all possible career paths, why have you
chosen to become an educator?
• What salary are you looking for?
Company or Organization Questions

• Why do you want to work here in our University?


• What do you know about our University?
• In addition to the different platforms we have
provided for advertisement, what other sources did
you use to find out about our company?
• What does it take to become successful here in our
University?
Tip

If you’re not sure what qualities the potential employer


may focus on during the interview, REREAD the job ad
or the Job Description of the position before
proceeding to the job interview
Phone/ Video or Web Cam Interviews

• Treat the interview as you would in an in-person


interview
• When scheduled, confirm the time zone of your
interviewer
• Prepare your skype area
• Give answers in a short, straight and concise
manner.
Tip

Be positive espcially in seemingly innocent questions


such as “How are you today?”
Situational Questions
• This is a new technique that focus on what
candidates would do in a specific situation
• This involves questions that are hypothetical in
nature based on challenging, real-life and job-related
scenarios
Behavioral Interview Preparation
• Do not answer immediately, ask for clarification if
necessary
• Prior to the interview, think of an event wherein you
experienced stress and pressure – these two are the
common behavioral focus of an interviewer
• Response should be specific and detailed

• Describe an instance when you had to think on your feet
to resolve a difficult situation
• Give a specific example of a time when you used a good
judgment and logic in solving a problem
• Give me an instance when you could not make a
decision because you did not have enough information?
How did you handle the situation? What was the result?
• What will you do if a member of your team is not doing
his job/ not performing?
Communication Skills Questions
• How will you make the Filipino/ English/ Math
subjects a lovable subject for students who are less
interested with these?
• Describe the most significant and creative
presentation you have ever made
• Describe a time when you have to communicate an
unfavourable information to someone? How did you
communicate the information?
Adaptability/ Stress Management
• By providing examples, explain how you can adapt
to the environment that we are going to offer you
• Describe a time when you have to face a very
difficult situation and how did you handle it?
• Give me a time when your schedule was
interrupted how did you handle the situation?

You should prepare few questions for the employer –


this shows interest in the Organization

• Is this a new position or am I replacing someone?
