What are the positive impact of social media on education?

Social media is not only changing the way we live our lives on a regular basis but is also

changing up the traditional classroom structure. More school districts are trying to try of

implementing social media in to daily classroom activities. Since many young students’ own

phones, teachers are trying to make a complete use of this by trying to implement more cellular

activities both inside the classroom and outside the classroom. A “result from a 2011 poll by a

University of Arizona and Claremont University research team have shown that 86% of Internet

users from the ages 18-29 are currently active on some kind of social media”. Teachers are trying

to incorporate social media for interactive and modern learning. Reaching out to the teacher

while doing homework at home has become much easier for the students over the past few years.

For example, if a student is struggling with a math question the student can just email the teacher

or connect with her through a social media site. Students who struggle with writing essays can

engage in online essay writing services through their school or other institutions. Social media is

also way or students who are quiet to open up to their teachers the past, the traditional classroom

setting would lead to the quiet and shy kids to not participating. Teachers can also easily interact

with parents and inform them about any new updates about the students. Students, parents, and

teachers are updated about any event through social media. For example, if there was a school

shooting then everyone would immediately be updated about this. Over the past few it has

become much easier for students to stay updated on recent issues without having to spend hours

staring at the TV. Through social media teachers are able to remind students about the upcoming

deadlines in class. Social media has definitely made things more convenient for both the students

and the teachers. Teachers can also provide extra credit on social media through online forums.

The school can save resources like paper because the teachers can just post the readings online
instead of printing them out I believe that teachers and students should take full advantages of

social media when it comes to educational purposes. Peer collaboration has also been made

easier through social media. Students don’t have to meet up in person in order to work together,

they can just collaborate through Google Docs, Twitter, Instagram, GroupMe, and etc. Social

media has made it easier for student to have access to other valuable information. For example,

through YouTube students can now view other tutorials on various subject from different teacher

and grasp onto a better understanding of a topic. They can also learn from instructors who have a

higher level of education. I believe that through social media we can definitely make positive

changes to our educations by have easy access to educational resources. Students will always be

more engaged in learning if it’s through something they love and understand. While engagement

in a traditional has become increasingly hard, the virtual classroom has made it easier for

students to interact with each other and the teacher. As the students start to engage in classroom

activities their confidence and communication skills improve significantly. Due to all of the

distractions on social media, students learn how to cope with distraction and only focus on what

is important. Students can also turn in their assignment instead of having to waste a bunch of

paper. As I mentioned about, most students love being on social media which is why they’ll take

the full benefits of having a virtual classroom. Online engagement helps students to become

more aware and exposed to diversity. One might say that college is becoming way to diverse

with all the protests going, but it also shows that students have more than the single perspective

in which they were born into. Social media is also a platform where students can voice their

political opinions. Making students active and well-informed civilians is a goal that most

educational institutions have. Social media makes it easier for students to know what’s going on

not only in the nation but also worldwide.
