1.0 PURPOSE:
ƒ To establish & maintain procedures of Electrical Safety and Prevention of Electrical
Safety.
ƒ To ensure strict control against violation of Electrical Safety and to prevent Electrical
Fire due to non standards electrical installation.

2.0 SCOPE:
This procedure covers all the related activities & services, including the Third Party,
Contractor & sub-contractors work, specially the maintenance and the non-routine
activities of the plant.
3.0 PROCESS OWNER:
Departmental Heads, process owners / Head – EHS
4.0 PROCEDURE:

4.1 ELECTRICAL CIRCUIT (Extension cords and multiple connections):

1. All electrical circuits are three-wire with earthing with adequate plug and top .
2. No circuits overloaded with extension cords or multiple connections
3. Proper wiring and plugs and no- frayed wires, no joints allowed at workplace.
4. Electrical control panels/ switches not obstructed.
5. Large metal surfaces (work bench, racks, etc.) on which electric equipment is used or
stored is grounded
6. Exposed wiring and cords with frayed or deteriorated insulation not allowed
7. Are all disconnecting switches and circuit breakers labeled to indicate their use or
equipment served?
8. Are electrical enclosures such as switches, receptacles, junction boxes, etc., provided
with tight-fitting covers or plates?
9. Are all unused openings (including conduit knockouts) in electrical enclosures and
fittings closed with appropriate covers, plugs or plates?
10. Are employees who regularly work on or around energized electrical equipment or
lines instructed in the cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) methods?
11. Are all electrical raceways and enclosures securely fastened in place?
12. Are all energized parts of electrical circuits and equipment guarded against accidental
contact by approved cabinets or enclosures?

4.2 ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT

1. Apparatus equipped with earthing or double insulated


2. High voltage equipment (>600 V) with additional electrical hazard label
3. Heating apparatus (including soldering iron) equipped with redundant temperature
controls
4. No exposed electrical parts, and No damaged enclosure or casing at workplace.
5. Equipment NOT close to water source
6. Make preliminary inspections and/or appropriate tests to determine what conditions
exist before starting work on electrical equipment or lines
7. When electrical equipment or lines are to be serviced, maintained or adjusted,
necessary switches opened, locked-out and tagged whenever possible?
8. Is low voltage protection provided in the control device of motors driving machines or
equipment, which could cause probably injury from inadvertent starting?
9. Is sufficient access and working space provided and maintained about all electrical
equipment to permit ready and safe operations and maintenance?
10. Are portable electrical tools and equipment grounded or of the double insulated type?
11. Are electrical appliances such as vacuum cleaners, polishers, vending machines
grounded?
12. Do extension cords being used have a grounding conductor?
13. Multiple plug adapters should be prohibited.
14. Flexible cords and cables free of splices or taps?
15. In wet or damp locations, are electrical tools and equipment appropriate for the use
or location or otherwise protected?
