Using Paired Reading Technique to the Eight Grade Students of Junior High

Reading is one of four language skills that have two perceptions between
people. Many people think reading is very easy skill on the other hand another
people are difficult skill. Reading has many techniques that can be used to teach
to students. One of them is Paired reading technique. Theoretically, Reading is
multi level process. Reading is branch of knowledge about language can use many
techniques in teaching. It can be like guessing game when reading question do.
The purpose of this research are:(1) Find out the application of teaching reading
using paired reading technique to the eight grade students of Junior High school 8
Kediri in academic year 2013/2014;(2) Find out the problem of teaching reading
using paired reading technique to the eight grade students of Junior High school 8
Kediri in academic year 2013/2014.
The theories to support this research are including definition of reading,
kinds of reading, kinds of reading process, reading comprehension, reading
technique, paired reading technique and teaching reading, this research also
provides some opinion from experts to support the analysis.
This research is descriptive qualitative. The subject of the research here is
the English teacher and eighth grade students of SMPN 8 Kediri in academic year
2013/2014. Research begins on May until September. The writer observes the
English teacher and students about the application of teaching reading using
paired reading technique in the classroom. The data was taken from observation,
interview, questionnaire and document. The data presents it in description and
table.
The result of this research shows the application of teaching reading using
paired reading technique to the eighth grade students of junior high school 8
Kediri in academic year 2013/2014 is consist of three activities: pre- reading,
whilst reading and post reading. The English teacher has good quality in teaching
reading. The teacher used paired reading technique to help her in presenting and
explaining the material. The problem when paired reading technique applied in
teaching reading is many student that have difficult when they are reading and
confuse in question section because they do not know about the meaning of
difficult word.
Based on the result of the research, it is suggested for the English teacher
to increase and to develop the ability in teaching reading. In addition, to make the
classroom more active, conducive and innovative, the teacher must be able to use
the media to support the English teacher when teaching.
