INTRODUCTION
Stress is a common problem that affects most of
us at some point in our lives. Stress in any situation
or event the evokes negative thoughts and feeling
in s person. It is associated with impairment of
health, and negative emotional experiences which is
detrimental to quality of life and sense of well-being
(Sinha,2000). It has been estimated that 10% to 30%
students experience academic related stress that
affects their academic performance, psychological
adjustments along their overall emotional and
physical well being.

In this study, the research seeks to identify the


different stressors faced by grade 12 academic
students of Dumaguete City High School.
FINDINGS
The following are the findings from the analyzed data of the study:

1. The major cause of stress are studying exam and final grade with
62%. Next is family issues with 61%, then followed by financial
issues 60%.
2. The top 3 physical effect of stress are headache (70%), increase and
decrease of appetite which maybe accomplished with weight loss or
gain (42%), and easily startled (25%).
3. The major behavioral effects of stress among respondents are
change in sleep patterns with 54%. Second is inability to rest or let
down with 47% and third is difficulty in communicating with 43%.
4. The major cognitive effects of stress on grade 12 academic students
are memory problem/forgetfulness with 53% followed by slowness
in thinking, analyzing and comprehending with 50% and then 49%
of confusion.
5. Difficulty in sharing ideas (41%) is the most common response of the
students. Next to it is engaging mutual problem solving (33%) and
difficulty in giving or accepting support or help(33%).
CONCLUSION
Based on the data the researchers had been gathered, analyzed, and
interpret.

The stress factors encountered by grade 12 academic students of


DCHS-SHS were studying for exam (62%). Final grades (62%), family
issues (61%), financial issues (60%),excessive homework (49%),
expensive projects (45%), health issues (35%), peer pressure (29%),
involvement in clubs and organization (19%), and issues with the
significant other (10%).

In relation to the causes of stress it is expected to have its effect.


Therefore the researchers includes the possible of stress in some
aspects such as; in behavioral, change in sleep patterns (54%) is the
most common response. In physical, headache with 70% in cognitive,
memory problem or forgetfulness Y(53%) and in social aspects,
difficulty in sharing ideas with 41%.
RECOMMENDATION
This research study has shown the stress factors encountered by grade
12 senior high school students and its affect in behavioral , physical,
cognitive and social phase of students well being.

1. Guidance and counseling unit should be part of the school management


system so that students can come there to discuss issues affecting them
(e.g. stress)

• Good eating habit should be priority of student in relation


to stress.
• Enough sleep or exercise is an important remedy to avoid
stress.
• Creative games should be organized during lectures in
order to relief stress from students and refresh their mind
and make them active.
2. The researchers must include the stress level of the respondents on the
research study. The researchers must also include the students from TVL
track as the respondents so that we will also know the stressors they’ve
faced.
3. The future researchers should research furthermore about the stress
factors and its coping mechanism.
