Job Seekers’ LinkedIn Cheat Sheet

Are you looking for new jobs? Not getting calls or emails or messages even after uploading your resume in Naukri,
Monster, Dice, CareerBuilder, Indeed, etc?

Most of the times I see posts in LinkedIn stating that, they facing issues in searching for jobs. When you are looking
for a job there are couple of things you need to focus, incase if you are serious job seeker.

First thing is your activity in LinkedIn and updates to be made in your LinkedIn account. The kind of changes I am
mentioning over here to your LinkedIn profile are practically seen and used by most of professionals over here and
got their ideal jobs. Just give it a try with respect to your current job searching trends.

For all the Job Seekers I would like to update that majority of the Recruiters spend only 30 seconds to review your
profile in any media either job board or a social media page. Cannot help it, every recruiter has multiple hectic tasks
to perform in a typical Recruiting Day.

LinkedIn for Job Seekers: LinkedIn has options which will help a job seeker to do couple of updates in the profile
and will help you to land in an ideal job. Let’s see what they are.

Would like to get more calls or emails or messages about new jobs in your preferred location?

Do you think only LinkedIn Premium accounts will get highlighted most? I would say you should try this once, to
get more number of Jobs that you are looking for

As a Recruiter and LinkedIn active user I could see nowadays most of the recruiters are depending on LinkedIn for
Candidate Search along with the regular job portals.

I know most of you are doing this activity regularly however I am just keeping all the required things on one plate
which might serve you a better dish.

Step – 1: Update Your Full Name (As you mentioned in your Resume), sometimes recruiters search your profile in
LinkedIn with Name hence it will be better if you can maintain Uniformed Name in your Job Boards and LinkedIn.

Step – 2: Your current Job Title, Current Company Name and Location. As a recruiter daily I get a chance to visit at
least 70-100 LinkedIn profiles as part of my job in identifying the prospective candidates for the roles open within
my current company, in this case sometimes I got to see some people are missing to update their new jobs or last
worked jobs. For this I suggest you to update your profile with your Name, current job title (please put market
standard titles which might fetch you results a bit quick), Please update your current location as City and State
(Province).

 Name: A Uniform Name for your Job Portal, LinkedIn

 Title: Please put market titles, if you are a Java Professional and your company might have given you SDE-
4 or something like this, a recruiter might not get an idea what exactly you are doing
 Location: A proper location with City Name, State (Province) would help recruiter to understand whether
you would be interested in relocating or not. FYI see the below image of my LinkedIn Profile.

Note: There are couple of suggestions I would like to give, please make them use if you are interested to see some
changes in your job search and the results out of your job search. FYI LinkedIn is a pure Professional Social Media.

Cover Photo: Suggest you to update Your Cover Photo which reflect your technology/skills/domain etc.
Profile Photo: Most of the professionals says it should be with white background and its up-to your interest.
Proper Job Title: You current Job Title, suppose your organization gave you SDE – 4 Title and you are a Java
Professional, kindly update your title with Market Title, example: Senior Java Developer (SDE – 4) or Senior Java
Developer/SDE – 4
Company Name: Please select your company name from the Drop down List which will help the recruiter to find
you when the recruiter is trying to find you through your company page.

Location: Please put the Proper Location Name like Bengaluru, Karnataka not B’Lore, KA (it’s not for style it’s for
location identification if a recruiter is searching a profile using a location).

From above image: A recruiter can understand very easily that Harish Boddu is a Recruiter and in Recruiting
Profession, working in Ittiam Systems (Latest Company Name) and currently in Bengaluru, Karnataka, India.

Below to your Profile Photo, Cover Photo, Your Current Title & Company Name, there will be a place with the title
as “About”, please don’t forget to mention about yourself what are you doing currently and what can you do in
your job. Your technical skills etc. For example please go through the below picture.

The above mentioned lines are not the ideal lines and you can prepare your own however to make curious about
visiting my profile I create like this. However most of the LinkedIn experts say that if you put one or more questions
in your summary area (“About” space), people will get curious about you and your profile which leads to read more
about you. This is what we need right? Then if your skills really attracted by Recruiters, definitely they will try to
reach you with their suitable requirement to your skills and experience.
