Methodology

This chapter contains the researcher’s research design, respondents, sources of data, and data analysis
tools which are all presented accordingly

Research Design

This study followed a qualitative research methods design which is survey design. Qualitative research is
concerned with non-statistical methods of inquiry and analysis of social phenomena. It draws on an
inductive process in which themes and categories emerge through analysis of data collected by such
techniques as interviews, observations, videotapes, and case studies. Qualitative research has been
defined in a variety of ways. In one definition, Strauss and Corbin (1998) recognized. In addition, surveys
are oriented towards the determination of the status of a given phenomenon rather than towards the
isolation of causative factors as experimental research. According to Jackson (2009), this design is used
obtain details and information concerning the current status of the phenomenon. For it to be reliable
and valid, the questions were constructed depending on the status they are undergoing for easy and
clarity comprehension (Flick, 2011).

Qualitative research as:

"Any sort of research that produces some variety of ideas that does not require statistical

systems or different methods for evaluation. It can allude to investigate about

people's lives, lived encounters, practices, feelings, and emotions just as

about authoritative working, social developments, and cultural practices".

The authors elaborated that Qualitative research is best used when the topic is inclined with the
personal experiences and activities that affects the preferences of the researchers. It also focuses more
about the nature of the problem which states how the child’s emotional well-being is affected when
raised by a single-parent. Miles and Huberman (1994) expressed an expanded position and indicated
that qualitative research is conducted to affirm past research on a point. It explores a lot of areas about
providing some details or knowledge of something that may be already known and gaining new
perspectives of taking a leap on viewing something new. It also expands the expected scope of the study
to grow the extent of a current investigation.
Thus, Qualitative techniques permitted going further into the research problem giving a more profound
significant comprehension of the social issues researched (Strauss and Corbin, 1998). Through
Qualitative research the researchers has figured out how to generate an increasingly point by point
perspective on the

Circumstance, drawing nearer to the on-screen characters' preference aimed for the improvement “as
full a comprehension of the case would be prudent” (Strauss and Corbin 1988). Miles and Huberman
(1994) stated

qualitative research is an exploration, elaboration and systematization of the significance of an

identified phenomenon. Strauss and Corbin (1998) also explained that in qualitative research one

is interested in process, meaning and understanding. As a result it could suffice to use qualitative
method.
