PAP ALGEBRA 2
Welcome to PAP Algebra 2! The main goal of this course is to extend your knowledge of
algebra and prepare you for future PAP and AP math courses. I look forward to teaching you
and learning from you. I want you to learn and be successful in Algebra 1. If you do what is
asked of you, and apply yourself, I am certain that this is an attainable goal. Listed below are
the grading guidelines that will be used to calculate your grade.

Content Understanding 40%

Content Mastery 40%
Content Engagement 20%

Supplies:
I do expect you to keep a notebook solely for your PAP Algebra 2 class. It should be a three
ringed binder. It should include 3 dividers. The tabs for the dividers will be as follows: Notes,
Classwork/Homework, Quizzes/Tests. Loose leaf college rule paper, pencil(s), eraser(s).

It is imperative that you come to class everyday with your district provided or personal laptop.
This device must have access to Schoology and Microsoft Office 365, and will be used for
educational purposes.

The following is a tentative pacing guide. Because each class is different, the pace of the
course may vary from the guide and/or from class to class.

First 9 Weeks: Linear, Radicals, Absolute Value

Second 9 Weeks: Quadratic, Cubic, Rational and Radical Functions
Third 9 Weeks: Polynomial Factoring, Analyzing Functions
Fourth 9 Weeks: Exponential & Logarithmic Functions, Intro to Precalculus

Electronic Devices:
Absolutely No electronic devices should be visible or used for personal reasons at any time
during class. The only permitted use of electronic devices is when instructed to do so by me,
for educational purposes. In all other instances, devices will be confiscated, and campus policy
will be enforced.
Absences:
If a student is absent, it is their responsibility to recovery any missed assignments or
information. If a student is aware of an upcoming absence, they should contact me
beforehand to get information/work. For unforeseen absences, students should check
Schoology, come see me or contact me on the remind before coming to the next class as not
to fall behind.

*Unexcused Absences*
Each assignment/assessment missed due to an unexcused absence must be completed,
however, a minimum of 30 points will be deducted upon completion.

*Late Assignments*
Students may submit late assignments, however, the initial grade of 0 will be factored in with
the grade assigned once the assignment is turned in.

Tutoring:
If tutoring is necessary, it is the student’s responsibility to come in for tutoring. My personal
tutoring times are Tuesdays and Thursdays 4-4:30. If these times are not convenient, the
student is encouraged to attend tutoring with any other math teacher available, or with the
after-school tutoring programs. There is also a plethora of resources online.

Academic Dishonesty:
Academic dishonesty WILL NOT be tolerated. If a student is involved in academic dishonesty,
they will receive a zero for the assignment/assessment, and the incident will be reported to
parents and administration. Campus policy will be used for magnet students and may result in
probation and/or ejection from the magnet program.

Due to apps and websites that can give work for math problems, I reserve the right at any time
to have students work a problem for an assignment/assessment to demonstrate how an
answer was achieved in order to receive credit for a problem. ALL work must be shown in
order to receive full credit on any assignment/assessment.

We must work together as a class to ensure a safe and harmonious learning environment
without unnecessary distractions. In order to achieve this, I expect you to adhere to all rules
and guidelines in your student handbook at all times. (dresscode, use of electronic devices,
tardies etc.) I will enforce the policies set forth by Chapin administration using the disciplinary
actions discussed in your student handbook. In addition to the campus rules, I also have a set
of classroom expectations and disciplinary actions specific to my classroom.

DISCIPLINE PLAN*for violations of my classroom expectations
