folder in your Xdrive account.

Notes:

 Click the plus sign next to any entry in the Folder

Tree to see sub-choices for that category.
 Click Refresh in the upper right corner of the window
to refresh the Folder Tree; you may need to do this
after creating or deleting a folder.

The Display Area

The Display Area lists information relevant to the selections you make on the Action Bar or Folder Tree. If
you have selected one of your folders, the files stored in that folder will be displayed here. If you have
selected one of your files and clicked on a button from the Action Bar, instructions pertaining to that action
will also be displayed here.

The Display Area also allows you to change the view your files are displayed. The lists of options include
Detailed View, Icon View, Thumbnail View, and Slideshow View.

The Feature Tabs

The Feature Tabs appear across the top of the interface. These tabs were designed to help you manage your
different type of image files, media files, and bookmarks independent from each other. The Xdrive tab is
the default tab selected after logging into your account, but you can select your desired feature by clicking
on the Photos, Music, or Bookmarks tab.

Use Xdrive Photos to save your next family vacation pictures. This allows you to upload your photos,
create new albums, and share individual photos or albums with family and friends. You can also create a
slideshow of your pictures to share with other during a family reunion or business presentation.

Xdrive Music offers you an advance method of organizing your music library by Genre, Artist Name, or

Xdrive Support

Xdrive Web is a sophisticated web application that has been designed to make it easy for you to upload,
share, and manage the files and folders you are storing on your Xdrive. We have worked hard to make the
Xdrive Web window easy to use and to provide you with quick access to all of your important data.
Because the Xdrive Web interface uses advanced JavaScript to create the Folder Tree and display
information about your account, it is important to use the navigation within Xdrive Web, rather than the
navigation tools provided by your web browser.

Some tips for navigating around Xdrive Web:

 Use the navigation buttons within Xdrive Web. Using the Back/Forward buttons on your
browser interferes with our ability to refresh and display information about your files and
folders.
 If you create or upload a new folder and it does not appear on your Folder Tree, click the
Refresh button at the top of the window to refresh the display.
 Xdrive Web requires your browser to have JavaScript® support turned on. Click here to
check to see if your browser meets the minimum system requirements for Xdrive Web.
To learn how to enable JavaScript in your browser, check your browser's help
documentation.

Note: The compatibility test page uses a Java applet that may cause the page to appear to
hang while your browser loads Java into memory on your computer. Please wait a minute
for the compatibility page to load when you click on the link above.Your total space
available can be displayed by moving the mouse cursor over the Available Space bar at the
very top of the window.

 If the names of some of your folders are cut off when viewing the Folder Tree, you can
make the Folder Tree wider by clicking and dragging the bar between the Folder Tree
and the Display Area. Do not click the wide scroll bar; instead, click the narrow, lighter
line just to the right of it.

Opening Files on Your Xdrive

Opening files stored in your Xdrive account is easy. Before opening a file, make sure that you have the
application required to open the selected file type installed on your computer. For example, if you are
trying to view a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet (filename.xls), you need to have Microsoft Excel installed on
your computer.

Photos can be viewed directly from Xdrive without separate software or viewers.

Note: Executable files and zip files (.exe, .zip) cannot be viewed directly from Xdrive. You must
first download these file types before trying to run or open the file.

To open a file in your Xdrive account:

1. Select the check box next to the file name you want to view.
2. Click the Open button.
3. A new browser window will open to display the files you have chosen to view.

Note: If you have selected multiple files for viewing, please use the Next/Previous links at
the top right hand side of the viewing window to cycle through the selection.

8
Using Xdrive Web

Once you have uploaded MP3 files to your Xdrive, you can use the Xdrive Music Player to listen to them.

To play MP3 files:

1. Select the check box next to the music file or files that you wish to listen to.
2. When you have finished selecting the songs you would like to play, click and hold the
mouse pointer on the Open button.
3. When the menu displays, select Music Player.
4. The Xdrive Music Player opens.

For more information on how to use the Xdrive Music Player, see: Xdrive Media Player.

Managing Files and Folders on Your Xdrive

If you need to quickly find a file in your Xdrive Account and you are not sure which folder it's in, you can
use the Search feature to find it.

To search for a file:

1. Enter the name of the file or folder in the Search field, located in the top right corner of
the window.
2. Click the magnifying glass to begin the search.
The search results may take a few seconds to appear.

Search Tips:

Use wildcards (* and ?) to refine your search:

 The asterisk (*) matches any number of letters or numbers.

 The question mark (?) matches only one occurrence of a letter or number.

Note: The search results will show the file path indicating where the file is located within your
Xdrive account, but you will not be able to access the file directly from the search results.

Xdrive offers a number of default folders in which to keep the files you upload to your account. You can
also create your own folders in order to keep your files organized.

To create a new folder:

1. Select a folder from the Folder Tree, such as My Xdrive or My Documents, where you
want to create the new folder.
2. On the Action bar, click the New Folder button.
3. Enter a name for the folder in the New Folder Name field.
4. Click OK.

Your new folder appears in the Folder Tree under the folder you selected. You can now upload files to your
new folder.

Are there limits on how much I can upload?

You can upload practically any file. Xdrive's maximum size for an individual file is 2.5 GB. You are also
limited by the total space available in your account. If you need more space, you can easily add space to
your Xdrive at any time by going to Manage Space in your account. There is no other limit on how much or
how often you upload.

Why is upload so slow?

Once an upload or download begins, everything in Xdrive’s control from the switches to the storage boxes
is optimized. It is very fast; it cannot be faster; it accounts for a very, very small percentage of the total
transfer time. The amount of data that we transfer to and from Xdrive’s storage doesn't scratch our capacity
to transfer data. In this regard there are no bottlenecks in our system.

There are application-related steps to start an upload or download that we are always working to speed up,
but most of the transfer time for a large item is occupied in its travel across the Internet. Latency in the
upload and download functions, after they have begun, is out of Xdrive’s control. It is a consequence of
general network latency on the Internet, how many hops one happens to be from our servers, the power of
one’s computer, and the speed of one’s connection to the Internet.

Nevertheless, slow transfer speed is perceived as a problem by our customers and by ourselves. More and
more people have switched to broadband. Over two-thirds of our customers use a broadband connection.
We expect everything to be fast now on the Internet. We expect to be able to upload as quickly as we can

15
Xdrive Support

download; unfortunately, that’s usually not the case. The transfer speed of your upload depends on the type
of connection that you have to the Internet. Many of our customers have broadband cable or DSL
connections. Most cable and DSL connections are asymmetrical; that is, bandwidth available for download
is much greater than bandwidth available for upload. The table below shows examples of common
broadband subscriptions, broken down by maximum upload and maximum download speeds.

Service Provider Maximum Download Speed Upload Speed

Verizon Consumer DSL 768 kbps, or 5-6 MB/minute 128 kbps, almost 1 MB/minute
Verizon Enterprise DSL (basic) 768 kbps, or 5-6 MB/minute 128 kbps, almost 1 MB/minute
SBC Yahoo! DSL 384 kbps, almost 3 MB/minute 128 kbps, almost 1 MB/minute
AT&T DSL 384 kbps, almost 3 MB/minute 128 kbps, almost 1 MB/minute
Comcast Cable Modem 3 mbps, almost 23 Mb/minute 256 kbps, almost 2 Mb/minute

The upload speeds listed above are maximum speeds. Real transfer speeds are slower, mostly due to the
network latency of the Internet. In general, expect transfer speeds of 60% to 90% of the maximum speed.

To figure out the actual upload speed of your connection, you can run a speed test. To take the speed test,
go to http://www.dslreports.com or other available speed test site.

The resulting speeds will be reported in kilobits per second (kbps). To convert this into megabytes/second
(Mb/sec), divide the number by 8000. For example, if you have an upload speed of 100 kbps, you will be
able to upload roughly .75 megabytes of data per minute (that’s 100/8000 * 60 seconds). If you have an
upload speed of 200 kbps, you will be able to upload roughly 1.5 megabytes per minute (200/8000 * 60),
etc.

If you’re using a cable or a DSL connection and you would like faster upload speeds, you may want to
contact your Internet Service Provider about purchasing a package with a faster upload.

Why am I getting slow uploads on a T1 connection?

T1 connections are synchronous at 1.5 Mbps. Theoretically if no one else is sharing your bandwidth you
should be able to see maximum upload speeds of 11.5 Mb/minute. In practice several factors slow this
speed down. First, Internet latency can shave off as much as 40% of the speed. Second, T1 connections are
found in office environments where other people are sharing your bandwidth. Third, office environments
often have proxies and firewalls that slow down the speed of file transfers. If you are experiencing slow
speeds on a T1 connection at the office, talk to your Systems Administrator about configuring your proxy
and firewall differently to admit Xdrive traffic.

Why does the remaining time on my upload keep changing?

16
Using Xdrive Web

During file uploads, the time remaining field in the upload box displays an estimate of time remaining for
the upload. Do not be concerned if this value increases or decreases unexpectedly during the file upload.
This value is based on the current transfer rate of your files. As your transfer rate increases or decreases
(e.g., due to network congestion or low memory on your system), the remaining time value is adjusted
accordingly.

What happens if I interrupt an upload?

Interrupting the upload process will cause the file upload to fail and the file to be corrupted within your
account. For best results, please do not navigate away from the upload page until your upload is complete.
If you would like to browse other sites while uploading, you should open a new browser window.

Why do I see 'Connecting to Server,' but nothing else happens?

To resolve this issue please clear both your Internet cookies and your Internet cache. You would do this by
opening your web browser and then going to File > Internet Options. In the Internet Options dialog box,
click the Clear Cookies button and the Clear Files button to clear both of these, and then click OK. After
this is done, close all of your browser windows. Open a new browser window, log in to your account, and
try your upload again.

Why isn't Advanced Upload working with my Windows XP system?

Sometimes Advanced Upload has an issue communicating with the JVM installed on Windows XP
systems. Please try clearing your cache by following these steps:

1. Go to Start > Control Panel.

2. If you are using the Category view with the Control Panel, you will need to switch to
Classic View by clicking on the Classic View link.
3. Once you are in Classic View, double-click the Java Plug In icon.
4. In the Java Console, click the Cache tab.
5. Click the Clear button.
6. In the message box, confirm your selection by clicking Yes.
7. If the Apply button is active in the Java console, please click it and then close the Control
Panel.
8. Try your upload once again after you have followed these steps. If you continue to have
trouble uploading, please try installing a new version of Java by going to www.java.com.

17
Xdrive Support

What should I do if I continue to have problems uploading?

If you’re uploading a large batch of data and it consists of many folders and subfolders, you may want to
consider uploading the folders a few at a time. Smaller size transfers take less time and are less likely to
fail. If one upload method fails, try another.

A notification message will be sent to each of the recipients of the shared folder with instructions for
accessing the folder you have shared. You can view information about the shared folder, edit permissions,
and revoke shares at any time by selecting Shared Items from the Folder Tree.

 To find out how to display the Advanced Sharing options as the default when you open
this page, view the help topic: Updating Your Display Options.
 For more information on how to set folder permissions, view the help topic: Setting Folder
Permissions and Quotas.

When you share a folder from your Xdrive, you can control how others access the contents of that folder by
setting folder permissions. When you allow others to upload new files to a folder, you can set a quota to
limit the amount of space available to the users you are sharing with.

Permissions

To set folder permissions:

1. Select the folder that you want to share from the Folder Tree or by selecting the check
box next to the folder name in the Display Area.
2. Click the Share Folder button on the Action bar. For more information on sharing folders,

or open the contents of that folder.
 Create: Setting the Create permission allows the users you are sharing with to upload
new files to the folder you are sharing.
 Edit: Setting the Edit permission allows the users you are sharing with to edit existing
files in the folder you are sharing.
 Modify: Setting the Modify permission allows the users you are sharing with to rename
the folder you are sharing or files in that folder.
 Delete: Setting the Delete permission allows the users you are sharing with to delete
the folder you are sharing or files stored in it.

22
Using Xdrive Web

 Share: Setting the Share permission allows the users you are sharing with to share this
folder or the files in it with other users. When this option is selected the grantee can
only give others the same or fewer permissions than they already have.
5. Set a quota, or size limit, for the folder by entering a number in the Maximum Folder
Size field.
6. When you are finished setting permissions for the folder, click Share Now.

A notification message will be sent to each of the recipients of the shared folder with instructions for
accessing the folder you have shared. You can view information about the shared folder, edit permissions,
and revoke shares at any time by selecting Shared Items from the Folder Tree.

Quotas

When you set the Create permission for a folder, the people you are sharing the folder with will be able to
upload new files to that folder. To limit the amount of space available to the users you are sharing with, set
a quota for the folder. The quota acts as a limit for the total size of the folder.

For example, if you set Create permissions and set a 10 MB quota when sharing a folder, the people you
are sharing the folder with will be able to upload files to that folder as long as the total size of the files
stored in that folder does not exceed 10 MB. Once the total size of the files stored in that folder exceeds 10
MB, the people you are sharing with will be blocked from uploading new files to that folder until some
files are deleted or moved.

Note: Folder quotas apply to the users you are sharing with only. If you are uploading files to a
folder that you have shared with a quota, you are allowed to exceed the quota for that folder.

Use the Shared Items display to review the folders that are being shared with you and that you are sharing
with others. You can also use the Shared Items display to change sharing options or revoke/remove shares.

To manage folders shared with you:

1. Select Shared Items from the Folder Tree.

2. The Folders Shared with Me page displays all of the folders that other users have shared
with you.
3. To edit a folder that is being shared with you, select the folder you wish to edit.
4. Then choose from the following options:
 If the folder is not linked to your account, click the Link button. When someone shares
a folder with you, it must be linked to your account in order for you to access it. Auto-
linking is enabled by default, but you can choose to disable it.
 To unlink a linked folder, click the Unlink button.
 To completely remove a shared folder from your Xdrive account, click the Remove
Share button. Once you remove a shared folder, you will no longer have access to the
folder or any of its contents.

Note: For more information on linking and unlinking folders, view the help topic Linking and
Unlinking Folders.

To manage folders you're sharing with others:

When someone shares a folder with your Xdrive, it needs to be linked to your account in order for you to
access it. By default, auto-linking is enabled for your Xdrive, so you will only need to link folders if you
disable this setting or choose to unlink a folder.

Linking a Folder

If you disable auto-linking or choose to unlink a folder, you will need to link it before you can access it
again.

To link a folder:

1. Select Shared Items from the Folder Tree.

2. The Folders Shared with Me page displays all of the folders others are sharing with you.
Select the check box next to the folder you wish to link.
3. Click the Link button.
4. By default, the folder will be linked to the root of your Xdrive. If you want to link the folder
inside of another folder, select a destination folder from the Folder Tree.
5. Click OK to continue.

The shared folder appears on your Folder Tree. Once a folder is linked, you can access it through either
Xdrive Web or Xdrive Desktop. The folder will behave just like your own folders, except that the folder
owner may have limited your access to the shared folder by setting permissions or a quota.

Unlinking a Folder

Sometimes you may want to unlink folders. This means that you are removing the shared folder from your
Xdrive Folder Tree. This can be useful to eliminate clutter and to reduce the amount of time it takes for the
Folder Tree to load when you log in.

To unlink a folder:

1. Select Shared Items from the Folder Tree.

2. The Folders Shared with Me page displays. Select the check box next to the folder you
want to unlink. Note: Linked folders are indicated by the Linked Folder icon and are also
highlighted in blue.

24
Using Xdrive Web

3. Click the Unlink button.

The icon next to the folder name will change, indicating that the folder is now unlinked. The folder no
longer appears in your Xdrive Folder Tree.

Note: The space that you use or access via folders shared by others does not count against your
account's available space.

Auto-linking is one of the display options you can change in your General Preferences. When it is enabled,
you do not have to manually link folders that other people have shared with you.

To change this setting:

1. Select My Account from the Folder Tree.

2. Click My Profile.
3. The My Profile page displays all of your account preferences. Scroll to the General
Preferences section and click Edit.
4. The General Preferences page displays. Select the Automatically Link New Shared
Files check box . Note: If the check box is selected, the option is enabled. If the check
box is empty, it is disabled.
5. Click Update to accept your changes.

The My Profile page confirms your change has been made.

Download
You can download a single file, or you can download multiple files and folders at the same time. When you
select multiple files or folders to download, Xdrive will create a compressed folder, or .zip file, which
contains all of the files and folders you have selected.

To download files and folders:

1. Select one or more items in the Display Area by selecting the check box next to the
item(s) you wish to download.
2. Click the Download button on the Action Bar.
3. The File Download dialog box displays. Depending on the operating system and web
browser you are using, your options may be slightly different.
4. Select the Save option and choose where you want to save the file on your computer, if
this option is available.
5. Click OK.

Your web browser will begin downloading the file and will report on the status of the download.

Extracting your files from the ZIP file

Once your download is complete, if you selected more than one item for download, the files and folders
that you selected for download will be available in a .zip file on your computer. If you are running

25
Xdrive Support

Windows XP or if you already have software that can read .zip files installed, you can just double-click on
the .zip file to access your files and folders.

If you do not have software installed that can read a .zip file, you will need to download and install an
application that can read this file format. There are many free and shareware utilities available that are
capable of reading .zip files. Two of the most popular applications for managing .zip files are:

 Windows Users: WinZip

 Mac Users: Stuffit Expander

Archive This, using the Web Grab button in the beta section (aka Skip the Download) is the fastest, easiest
way to archive your blog postings, profile pages and more directly to your Xdrive account. Instead of
downloading the page to your computer through your own connection, the page will be transferred to your
Xdrive using our fast, secure server-to-server connection.

The file will be copied to the main directory of your account, so you should find it in your folder tree under
My Xdrive. Once you have saved it to your Xdrive, you can move the file around your account and put it
wherever you would like.

What kind of files can I transfer?

You can transfer any of your personal web pages or blogs that you currently download from the web to
your computer using Skip the Download.

How come it doesn't work on membership sites?

If the web site you are trying to use Skip the Download with requires you to log in with a username and
password before you download to your computer, you will not be able to use Skip the Download. While
this includes web mail services such as Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail, you can upload attachments directly
from your e-mail account using the E-mail Attachments feature.

To find out how to archive your blog postings, profile pages and more directly to your Xdrive, see Using
Archive This.

You can use Skip the Download, also called Archive This, to quickly archive your blog postings, profile
pages and more directly to your Xdrive account.

To use Skip the Download:

1. Hold the mouse pointer over the Beta button on the Action bar.
2. Select Web Grab from the pop-up menu that displays.
3. The Skip the Download window displays. In the Web Address field, enter the URL of the
file you wish to download.

Note: If the website needs to be logged into, or if the content is dynamically generated
(website content that is generated by various script including asp, php, etc. and is not
stored in a fixed position), then this operation will not find the file or be allowed access to
the protected server.

4. Enter a name for the file in the New File Name field.

Note: Use a file extension to indicate the type of file being downloaded. For example, if you
are downloading a photo, use the extension .jpg.

26
Using Xdrive Web

5. When you are finished, click the Start Upload button.

6. When the download is complete, a confirmation page displays. Click Open My Xdrive to
go to the Xdrive main window and find the file. To close the window, click the Close
Window button.

The file is grabbed from the specified web site and downloaded to the Web Grab folder on your Xdrive.

Public Folders
Providing you with a simple and secure way to distribute content online, we have developed Xdrive Public
Folders to make it easy for you to share folders stored on your Xdrive with anyone. Public Folders are an
extension of our folder sharing feature. With Public Folders, you can create a URL that provides access to
your folder that you can send via e-mail or post on your web site.

When someone clicks the link for your Public Folder, the information page for your Public Folder is
displayed. When you visit a Public Folder information page, you are given two options:

 If you already have an Xdrive Plus or an Xdrive Free Account, you can simply log in
to your Xdrive from this page. When you log in from a Public Folder information page,
that Public Folder will be linked automatically to your Xdrive account Folder Tree. You will
then be able to access the contents of that folder.
 If you don't have an Xdrive account, you are given the opportunity to register for one.
Start the registration process by entering your e-mail address (which will serve as your
account username) at the top right of the Public Folder page. You will be given a choice
between registering for an Xdrive Free Account or signing up for an active paying
account that provides you with greater functionality and benefits. After setting up your
account you will be taken to Xdrive's Start Page where you can click on the Launch
Xdrive green button at the top right to launch your new account. The Public Folder will be
automatically linked to your Xdrive account Folder Tree.

How can I try it out?

Select a folder that you would like to share and follow the instructions for creating Public Folders.

Or, check out some of Xdrive's Public Folders. We've been working on developing our own Public Folders
to give you easy access to a wealth of valuable content -- including thousands of business and tax forms, a
large library of ebooks, and free online games.

Why do you require registration to access the files in a Public Folder?

Xdrive is a secure, permission-based service for storing and sharing files. An account is required to access
any folders that have been shared using Xdrive. Our system enforces sharing permissions on an account
basis. New customers can choose between registering for an Xdrive Plus subscription or an Xdrive Free
Account.

Creating Public Folders

You can easily share the contents of a folder by making it public. To create a Public Folder, you must have
an Xdrive subscription with space of your own.

depending on the ID3 Tags contained in your MP3 file.

What are ID3 Tags?

ID3 is a tagging system that lets you put enriching and relevant information about your audio files within
them. Tags can contain any kind of information and data you can think of such as title, album, band, and
genre.

Use iTunes to Play Music on Your Xdrive

If you prefer to use iTunes to play music on your computer, you can also use it to play music from your
Xdrive.

To use iTunes to play music on your Xdrive:

1. First, disable your Xdrive Media Player.
2. With the Xdrive Media Player disabled, the next time you select one or more songs and
click the View button on the Action bar, your browser will start to download a playlist file.
(Note: if you are viewing the Music tab, clicking the Play button on the Music toolbar will
perform the same action.)
3. Most browsers will offer you the choice of saving or opening the file. Select the Save
option.
4. Then click OK.
5. Select a location to save the file on your computer's hard drive.

34
Using Xdrive Web

6. Once you've saved the playlist to your computer, just drag and drop it into the playlist
pane in iTunes. You’ll now have a new playlist of “Internet Radio” songs that are
streamed right out of your Xdrive account.

It is possible to use your Treo 600 or 650 as a portable media player to stream all of your music from
Xdrive to your phone.

To stream music through your Treo 600 or 650:

1. First, disable your Xdrive Media Player.

2. You must install a music player on your Treo that supports the streaming of .mp3 (audio)
and .m3u (playlist) file types. We recommend Pocket Tunes Deluxe.
3. Upload your music to your Xdrive account. The music has to be encoded at a rate that
your phone service provider can support for streaming. Try a bit rate of 48kbps and a
sample rate of 22 kHz. If these rates are still too high, contact your phone service
provider.
4. Next, you need to create a playlist that you will download to your phone.
5. After you create the playlist, select My Playlists from the Folder Tree.
6. Select the check box next to the playlist you want to download.
7. Click the Download button on the Action bar.
8. A file download dialog box displays, prompting you to either open or save the file. Select
the Save option.
9. Select a location to save the playlist on your computer's hard drive.
10. Finally, you'll need to use the palmOne Quick Install software to transfer the playlist file to
your phone.

Note: These playlist files are extremely small because they are just pointers to your music
on Xdrive. They will not take up much room at all on your phone’s memory or in your smart
card. An entire album of songs might be a tiny 3 KB playlist.

11. Locate the playlist on your phone using your music player, and play! The music will
stream from Xdrive to your phone.

you are faxing. For example, you may use this field to indicate to whose attention you

instructions.
7. When you are finished filling out the information to be included on the cover sheet, click
Send Now.
8. A confirmation page displays. You will also receive a confirmation e-mail when your fax
has been successfully transmitted. To close the confirmation window, click Close
Window.

Errors

If there are any problems with the fax transmission, or the number was unreachable, you may receive an e-
mail message from our 3rd party routing company that reads as follows:

"Venali received your fax request at 6/9/2005 5:33:57 PM. However, we were unable to deliver your fax to
16666669999 because all circuits were busy or the call could not be placed."

possible that information displayed to you about the files and folders on
your Xdrive may not be up to date until you either log off and log back
on, or clear your cache.
 The Cache tab allows you to clear the cache or adjust the amount of
disk space that Xdrive Desktop uses for cache. For more information
about clearing the cache, see: Clearing the Cache.

Basic Backup
Using Xdrive Desktop, you can create automated backups of your most important files so that they are
copied safely to your Xdrive. Set your backups to run on a regular schedule, and you will never fear losing
months of work to system crashes or viruses again.

Some things to keep in mind when creating and scheduling backups:

 When it's time for a scheduled backup, you don't need to have Xdrive Desktop running,
but you do have to make sure that your PC is turned on and connected to the Internet.
 Your backups are automatically placed in a folder on your Xdrive named My Backups.
 Each new backup run will be uploaded to a folder named after the Backup Set and will
include subfolders named by date and time that it started. For example, a backup titled
Backup1, started at 1:00am on January 1, 2006 will be uploaded to a folder named \My
Backups\Backup1\1-1-2006 at 1.00.00.
 There will be a file called manifest.xml created within each backup folder. This file
contains important information about that backup, and for Xdrive Online Backup to
function correctly, it is important that this file is not deleted or moved.

Xdrive Desktop's backup settings are accessed by clicking on the Backup tab from the main window.
There are two tabs within the Backup tab: Basic and Advanced.

 Basic: The Basic backup tab allows you to select files to backup by pre-defined
categories, such as My Pictures, My Music, Excel files, Word files, and more.
 Advanced: The Advanced backup tab gives you complete flexibility to select specific files
and folders to back up. An Xdrive Backup Wizard will help you create your backups in
just a few easy steps.

Backing up your PC regularly is the best way to make sure you never lose important files and months worth
of work. Click one of the links below to get started on setting up your Xdrive Online backups:

Readying your Norton Internet Security 2005 firewall for use with Xdrive Desktop is three-step process
that involves creating custom Internet access, enabling Windows' file sharing, and identifying the Microsoft
Loopback Adaptor as a "Trusted" source to your computer. All of this can be achieved directly through the
Norton Internet Security program.

To configure your firewall for Xdrive using Symantec's Norton Internet

Security 2005:

1. Open Symantec's Norton Internet Security 2005:

 From the Start menu: click Start, point to All Programs, point to Norton Internet Security,

Software (Note: the software is usually located at C:\Program Files\XDrive Desktop.)
6. From the Xdrive Desktop folder, select the file XdrSmb.exe and click Open. (Note: make
sure Permit All option is selected.)
7. Repeat steps #4 and #5 to also add the files Xdrunner.exe and Xdrive Desktop. (Note:
make sure the Permit All option is selected on both of these files.) When you are finished, the
three files should display in the Manual Program Control.

6. Follow the on-screen directions to remove Xdrive Desktop. You will need to restart your
computer when done.

Xdrive Desktop is removed from your PC. Of course, you can still access your account using Xdrive Web.

Troubleshooting
The Xdrive Desktop cache is a temporary storage area on your computer. It is used to keep temporary
copies of the files that you upload and download to your Xdrive. By storing these temporary files on your
PC, Xdrive Desktop's performance is improved.

However, if someone you have shared a folder with uploads a file to your Xdrive, for instance, you may not
see the most up to date file and folder information until you either log out and log back in, or clear the
cache.

To clear the cache:

1. On the Xdrive tab in the main window, click the Settings button.
2. Click the Cache tab.
3. In the Current User's Cache area, click the Clear Cache button to clear the current users
cache, or click the Clear Cache button in the Entire Cache area to clear all user's
caches.
4. A Delete Confimation option box appears. Click Yes to clear the cache for either the
current user or all users.
5. Click OK to exit the Settings window and return to the main window.

Clearing the cache while logged in assures that the most current file and folder information on your Xdrive
is presented to you.

Note:

67
Xdrive Support

 You can also clear the entire cache only by right-clicking on the Xdrive icon in the System
Tray and selecting Clear Cache.

Click a question below to see detailed information and find links, as appropriate to additional information.

I can log into Xdrive Web but not Xdrive Desktop. What's wrong?

I have two Xdrive accounts. Can I connect to both accounts at the same
time with Xdrive Desktop?

Xdrive Desktop seems very slow for right-click copy/paste actions.

Why?

Xdrive Desktop locks up when I am uploading or downloading files or

folders. What should I do?

I have third-party automatic backup software installed on my system. If

I have Xdrive Desktop, will my backup software be able to back up my
Xdrive files as well?

I'm accessing Xdrive Desktop from behind a firewall or proxy server.

How should I configure my system?

Do I need Network Neighborhood enabled on my system to use Xdrive

Desktop?

Xdrive is Unavailable (Error -1, 2, 6, 500 )

The message, "Xdrive Is Unavailable," followed by one of the error codes above indicates that there is a
problem with the connection between Xdrive Desktop on your PC and our main computers. You may
receive these errors for one of the following reasons:

 Xdrive Desktop timed out while trying to connect. The program will time out if a connection has
not been established within 60 seconds.
 You do not have an active Internet connection.
 Your computer accesses the Internet through a firewall or proxy server, and Xdrive Desktop proxy
server settings are not configured correctly.

If you encounter one of these error codes, first attempt to log on to Xdrive Desktop again. If you still have a
problem connecting, try the following to resolve the issue:

 Check if you have an active Internet connection. Are you able to access other web pages? If not,
you likely do not have an active connection.
 Verify whether you connect to the Internet through a proxy server or firewall, and if applications
are permitted to access the Internet directly. If you need to configure Xdrive Desktop to use a
proxy server, see: Configuring Proxy Server Settings.
 Close other applications and Internet windows that might slow down your Xdrive Desktop
connection to the Internet.

68
Using Xdrive Desktop

"Delete for [filename] failed" when viewing a file directly from an

application

You may receive this error when closing a file that was opened from a linked folder (a folder that another
person has shared with you) directly with an application.

This can occur because some applications, i.e. Microsoft Word, creates a temporary copy of files that you
are accessing. When you exit, the application attempts to delete these temporary files. Because the folder
that was shared with you may not permit you to delete files, you may receive this message.

This error does not indicate a problem or affect the file that you are accessing, and can be safely ignored.

Error 1

Error 1 is typically a "Cancel" error. If you click the cancel button when uploading or downloading files, or
if Xdrive Desktop fails to receive a response from our main computers, you may see this error.

Please try to log out and log back in again if you receive this error.

Error 3

Error 3 occurs if you attempt to log in with an incorrect username and/or password.

Please re-enter your username and password, and attempt to log in again if you receive this error. Username
and password are case sensitive, so be sure that the Caps Lock key is not on. (Your AOL and AIM
username is not case-sensitive.)

Error 15

Error 15 is a mapping error. This means that Windows is unable to display your Xdrive account in
Windows Explorer or My Computer using the drive letter specified when logging in. This can occur for
several reasons:

 You do not have the basic networking functions enabled on your PC. Check to see if you have the
"Client for Microsoft Networks" installed.
 You have an entry in one of your computer's system files that prevents Xdrive Desktop from using
the drive letter specified when you logged in. You can attempt to use the letter just following your
current drive letters, or look for a file called "config.sys" and see if there is a line where
"LASTDRIVE = " contains a letter lower than the letter specified for Xdrive Desktop when
logging in.

Error 403

You might receive Error 403 for one of the following reasons:

 The password stored in user settings does not match the password that Xdrive has on file for you.
Please re-enter your password and try logging in again. Please remember that your password is
case sensitive.
 You are out of space on your Xdrive. You can easily add more space to your Xdrive at anytime by
logging in to your account using Xdrive Web and selecting Manage Space.

Error 1204

69
Xdrive Support

One of two things usually cause Error 1204 to occur:

 If you are connecting to the Internet through a firewall or proxy server and receive this message, it
usually means that you need to provide a username and password to authenticate with your proxy
server. For more information on configuring Xdrive Desktop to work with your firewall or proxy
server, see: Configuring Proxy Server Settings.
 There was a problem when Xdrive Desktop was installed. If you continue to receive this error
message, please try uninstalling Xdrive Desktop and installing it again.

Music

The music will
stream from Xdrive to your phone.

giving out your username and password. You decide whether those you've shared folders with can make
changes to files, add or create files, or read files only.

How secure is Xdrive?

Xdrive, a Verisign Secure Site, places a premium on security. We recognize that our customers trust us to
securely store their most important and private files.

Our network infrastructure is both strong and secure. Redundant routers, switches, hardware, and backup
systems ensure regular availability of the Xdrive service. To provide scalability and reliability, load
balancing is used to transparently distribute incoming requests among Xdrive servers.

Does Xdrive currently support FTP?

Xdrive does not currently support FTP access because it is a potentially insecure transfer method and
because many firewalls do not permit FTP.

Consider Xdrive Desktop if you are interested in a quick and easy way to transfer many files and folders
between your Xdrive and your PC. Xdrive Desktop maps a drive in Windows, allowing you to access your
Xdrive directly through My Computer or Windows Explorer. You can easily drag and drop files and entire
folders from your local and network drives to your Xdrive.

Does Xdrive currently offer a photo album?

Yes. In Xdrive Web, you can create photo albums and view them as a slideshow.

Your computer needs to have the correct application installed for displaying the type of pictures you are
trying to view. For example, if you were trying to view .psd graphic files, you would need to have Adobe
Photoshop installed.

Can I version my documents from within my Xdrive account?

83
Xdrive Support

Unfortunately, Xdrive does not have any versioning support built into its product. For the time being the
best solution is to use the versioning support that comes with the application for whatever file you're
working on.

Does Xdrive support direct linking of files from its site to be

viewed on web pages?
Xdrive does not support the direct linking of files from its site to be viewed on web pages (this includes
auctions like E-bay and Yahoo).

Xdrive has been designed as a file storage and sharing service, not as a web host. If you want to make the
files and folders stored on your Xdrive available to others, you can use our Send a File or our Share a
Folder feature.

Why do people I am sending a file to need to setup an Xdrive

account?
Xdrive recently implemented a new policy for customers using the Send a File feature. The first five
recipients who receive your sent file will have the opportunity to download the information without having
an Xdrive account of their own. The sixth recipient and onward will be required to set up an Xdrive Free
Account to access the sent file.

The setup of a free account takes only seconds to complete, and your recipients will be able to copy the sent
file directly into their own personal Xdrive account. Your recipients will not be required to enter any credit
card information.

How do I track changes made to Microsoft Excel spreadsheets I'm

sharing from my Xdrive?
If you're sharing a folder of Excel documents that several people are working on, you may want to know
who made changes to the docs, what the changes are, and when the changes were made.

To track changes made to a Microsoft Excel spreadsheet:

1. Open any Microsoft Excel document whose changes you want to track.

84
Frequently Asked Questions

2. On the Tools menu, click Share Workbook, and then click the Editing tab.
3. Select the Allow changes by more than one user at the same time check box.
4. Click the Advanced tab.
5. Under Track changes, make sure the Keep change history for option is selected, and in
the Days box, type the number of days of change history that you want to keep.

Note: In a shared Excel workbook, the "change history" is the information that is
maintained about changes made in past editing sessions. The information includes the
name of the person who made each change, when the change was made, and what data
was changed. Microsoft Excel permanently erases any change history older than the
number of days you specify.

6. Click OK, and if prompted to save the file, click OK.

Now any changes to the document will be tracked.

Note: If you are using the Xdrive Desktop application, drag and drop your Excel spreadsheet from
Xdrive to your local computer before opening and editing it. Then, when you are done with your
edits, close the spreadsheet and upload it back to Xdrive. The tracking will not work if you try to
open it directly from Xdrive using Xdrive Desktop.

Why don't I see my files when I upload them into my account from
one computer and attempt to view them from another computer?
The Xdrive Desktop software temporarily caches all files selected for upload to your Xdrive. These files
are stored in a cache directory on your PC. Occasionally this file will not clear automatically and will give
the impression that files have disappeared.

To correct this, either log off and log back in to Xdrive Desktop, or clear the cache file.

Are there limits on how much I can upload?

Xdrive's maximum size for an individual file is 2.5 GB. You are also limited by the total space available in
your account. If you need more space, you can easily add space to your Xdrive at any time by going to
Manage Space in your account. There is no other limit on how much or how often you can upload. (Subject
to fair access policies outlined in our Terms of Service.)

Why is uploading so slow?

Most of the transfer time for a large item is due to its travel across the Internet. Delay is typically a
consequence of heavy Internet traffic, the speed of one's connection to the Internet, and the speed of one's
computer. Once an upload or download begins, everything in Xdrive is optimized, and the transfer speed is
generally out of Xdrive's control.

Why does the remaining time on my upload keep changing?

94
Frequently Asked Questions

During file uploads, the time remaining field in the upload box displays an estimate of the time remaining.
Do not be concerned if this value increases or decreases unexpectedly during the file upload. This value is
based on the current transfer rate of your files. As your transfer rate increases or decreases (e.g., due to
network congestion or low memory on your system), the remaining time value is adjusted accordingly.

What should I do if I continue to have problems uploading?

If you're uploading a large batch of data consisting of large files or many folders and subfolders, you may
want to consider uploading them a few at a time. Smaller size transfers take less time and are less likely to
fail.

Why am I experiencing slow uploads on a T1 connection?

What happens if I interrupt an upload?

Interrupting an upload will cause the upload process to fail. Please do not navigate away from the upload

96
Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I receive error 2161 when attempting to upload?

Your firewall may not be allowing your upload to occur. When you upload a file, a small pop-up window
opens and controls the process. If this process is interrupted by your firewall, the system will return with
error message 2161.

To correct this, simply click on the small pop-up window, and press the F5 key to refresh it. It may be
necessary for you to do this more than once in order to restart the upload process.

What should I do if I continue to have problems uploading?

If you are uploading a large batch of data consisting of large files or many folders and subfolders, you may
want to consider uploading them a few at a time. Smaller size transfers take less time and are less likely to
fail. If one upload method fails, try another.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you offer an Xdrive Desktop application for the Macintosh?

Unfortunately, no. Xdrive is working to release a Mac-compatible Desktop application, but no release date
has been set.

How can I upload multiple folders and/or files into my Xdrive using
a Macintosh?
Uploading folders to a Macintosh is the same as with a PC. For detailed instructions, see Uploading
Folders.

We recommend that you visit the Minimum System Requirements page to ensure that you are able to use
the folder upload applet with your Macintosh.

We also recommend that you update your Java Runtime Environment (JRE) to ensure compatibility with
our upload applet. You can download the latest Java Runtime Environment directly from Sun
Microsystems.

Why does my folder download to a ZIP file?

When you download either an entire folder or multiple files from your Xdrive account, Xdrive will
compress those files and download them as a ZIP file.

If you do not have software installed on your Mac that can open and read the ZIP file format, you will need
to download and install an application to do so. There are many free utilities available for managing ZIP
files on a Macintosh, the most popular being Stuffit Expander.

Can I schedule automatic backups with a Macintosh?

Unfortunately, Xdrive Desktop, the software used to schedule automatic backups, is only available for the
Windows Platform at this time.

Xdrive is working on releasing Macintosh compatible Desktop software, but no release date has been set.

99
Xdrive Support

I do not have the latest operating system installed on my

Macintosh. Can I still use Xdrive?
It is still possible for you to use Xdrive with Macintosh operating systems released prior to OS X.
However, since our testing involves Macintosh OS X only, you may encounter unsupported issues.

If you are using an earlier version of the Macintosh operating system, the Netscape Navigator web browser
works best. However, we recommend upgrading to Mac OS X, and using the Safari browser in order to
fully benefit from your Xdrive account.

What web browser works best with Mac OS X?

Xdrive recommends using the latest Safari browser (currently 2.0) when using your Xdrive account with
Mac OS X.

Xdrive also supports Netscape Navigator and Microsoft Internet Explorer for Macintosh, but Safari works
best.

If I am using a Macintosh, can I share files and folders with people

who are using a PC or vice versa?
It is possible to share files between PC and Macintosh users however Xdrive recommends that this be done
using Mac OS X and above only.

Operating systems prior to Mac OS X save some files differently, and it is possible to corrupt those files
when opening them from a PC. Using Mac OS X will prevent this from occurring.

What is Skip the Download?

Skip the Download, also called Archive This, is the fastest, easiest way to archive your blog postings,
profile pages and more directly to your Xdrive account. Instead of downloading the page to your computer
through your own connection, the page will be transferred to your Xdrive using our fast, secure server-to-
server connection.

Skip the Download is easiest to use with Xdrive Desktop however it can also be used very easily with
Xdrive Web.

How does Skip the Download work?

Skip the Download redirects file links on a web page to our download service. Instead of downloading the
page to your computer through your own connection, the page will be transferred to your Xdrive using our
fast, secure server-to-server connection. After the download is complete, you can access the file anytime,
from anywhere using Xdrive Web or Desktop. It's a great way to store all of your archived content in a
secure, centralized location.

To use Skip the Download with Xdrive Desktop:

1. Right-click the link to the page that you would like to download.
2. Select Save To Xdrive from the menu.
3. When prompted, enter your Xdrive username and password to begin the Skip the

Almost no time at all. The beauty of Skip the Download is that the file you select travels directly from the
host site to your Xdrive, on the backbone of the Internet.

What kind of files can I archive?

You can archive any of your personal files or web pages that you currently download from the web to your
computer. This includes software, pictures, videos, music and more.

Who will know files what I am downloading?

102
Frequently Asked Questions

When you use Skip the Download to save things into your Xdrive, the target URL is stored in our system
only for the duration of your download. The web site that you are downloading from will only know that
Xdrive has downloaded the file, not you.

For more information, view our Privacy Policy.

When I use Skip the Download, where does the file go?
The file will be copied to a folder under My Xdrive called Web Grab. Of course, once you have saved it,
you can move the file around your account and put it wherever you would like.

Can I move files from my computer to my Xdrive?

No, you cannot use Skip the Download to move or copy files from your computer into your Xdrive. You
can only transfer files from web pages accessible to anyone on the Internet into your Xdrive. Note that this
restriction applies to intranet pages (web pages available only within a computer network, such as a
business network) also.

We suggest that you use Xdrive Desktop to transfer files and folders from your computer to your Xdrive.

Why doesn't Skip the Download work on membership sites?

Because the Skip the Download process must be able to access the file that you want to copy, you will not
be able to use it if the website requires you to log in with a username and password. While this includes
web mail services such as Yahoo! Mail and Hotmail, you can upload attachments directly from your e-mail
account using the E-mail Attachments feature.

What does a Skip the Download the installation include?

The installation package includes only the executable files necessary to run to the application. We respect
your privacy, and will never bundle our software with any third-party software (adware, spyware, etc).

103
Xdrive Support

Why can't I download files from my company's intranet?

You can not use Skip the Download on intranets because Xdrive is not able to access these sites. Your
company's intranet is generally only accessible to you while you are at the office or connected to your
office network remotely. It is not usually available to everyone on the Internet.

If your company's intranet is available on the Internet but requires a username and/or password to log in,
you will still not be able to use Skip the Download.

Can I implement Skip the Download on my own web site?

Yes. Implementation is fast and easy. Visit our Webmasters page for more information.

Do I need an Xdrive membership in order to use the software?

Yes. In order to use the service, you need to sign up for an Xdrive account. Click here for a free account.

Which browsers and platforms does Skip the Download support?

Skip the Download supports Windows NT, 2000, and XP platforms, and Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher.

I tried to save an HTML file, but the page doesn't display correctly.
Why?
When you save an HTML file, the code that produces the web page is extracted and transferred to your
Xdrive. If the page you are trying to save uses dynamic (frequently changing) content or relative URLs
(web addresses that are otherwise incomplete, but display correctly when on the web), the links to these
resources will break, and the page will not display properly.

How a web page is created and saved varies by page, and Xdrive has no control over how they will display.

What is Xdrive Online Backup and what can it do for me?

With Xdrive Online Backup, you can schedule backups of selected files and folders to your Xdrive account
using a simple set of rules. All of your important data is securely stored on the Xdrive servers so you can
easily retrieve them in the event of a disaster or system failure.

Where do I find the Xdrive Online Backup application?

Xdrive Online Backup comes bundled with the Xdrive Desktop application. Once you install the
application and login, you will see the Backup tab on the Xdrive Desktop console.

105
Xdrive Support

What should I back up?

You can back up any file that you want to. Xdrive's maximum size for an individual file is 2.5 GB. You are
also limited by the total space available in your account.

Most importantly though, you should back up the files that you regularly edit, so that a recent version is
safely stored on your Xdrive should something happen to your computer. The backup feature is most useful
as a way to make sure that recently changed files are safely stored at Xdrive.

For files that you don't edit but still want to keep safe, such as a song or a picture, we suggest transferring it
to your Xdrive using folder upload. This type of file only needs to be copied once since it doesn't change,
whereas a backup's goal is to copy recently or frequently changing files.

Most computer users do not back up their operating systems or applications. These occupy too much space,
take too long to transfer, and can be restored from the original CD.

If you need more space to perform backups, you can easily add it to your Xdrive at any time by selecting
My Account from the Folder Tree, and then clicking Manage Space.

How long should I expect a backup to take?

Depending on the total size of your backup and the speed of your PC and Internet connection, your initial
backup may take quite a while.

Backing up incrementally can be much faster. An incremental backup plan starts with a full backup, but
then each subsequent backup only copies those files that have changed since your last backup. If you have
chosen to back up incrementally, once the first backup is completed, each subsequent backup is usually a
small amount of data that can be backed up fairly quickly.

What is a backup set?

A backup set is a collection of files and folders that you choose to back up to Xdrive, as well as the
schedule and settings that control the backup.

How do I create a backup?

106
Frequently Asked Questions

You can perform either a basic or advanced backup.

To create a new basic backup, please see the help topic, Creating a Basic Backup.

To create a new advanced backup set, please see the help topic, Creating an Advanced Backup Set.

How are my backup sets saved within my Xdrive account?

Your backups are automatically placed in a folder on your Xdrive named My Backups. Each time a
backup is run, it will be uploaded to a folder within My Backups named after the backup set, and will
include a subfolder named after the date and time that it started. For example, a backup titled Backup1,
started at 1:00am on January 1, 2006 will be uploaded to a folder named \My Backups\Backup1\1-1-2006
at 1.00.00.

Additionally, the full path for the backed up files are recreated inside your backup folder. If the backup
above includes a file located on C:\work_spreadsheets, called Work.xls, the full path for the backed up
file on your Xdrive is:

X:\My Backups\Backup Set 1\1-1-2006 at 1.00.00\C\work_spreadsheets\Work.xls

In this way, the folder structure from your computer is maintained in your Xdrive Backup folder. If you do
not want the file path included in your backups, you can edit the backup set that you've created, and
deselect this option. For more information, see Editing an Advanced Backup Set.

What is the file named manifest.xml for and where is it?

In each backup folder on your Xdrive, you will find a file named manifest.xml. These files contains
important information about each backup, and for Xdrive Online Backup to function correctly, it is
important that this file is not deleted or moved.

Xdrive Online Backup also saves several .xml files in your My Documents folder on your PC. These files
are used to keep track of your backups, and should also not be removed.

Can I run a backup whenever I want, or do I need to wait for my

computer to be backed up automatically at the time I scheduled?
Once you have created a backup set, you can initiate a backup at any time using the Backup Now button.
Clicking Backup Now will instruct Xdrive Desktop to immediately begin copying files to your Xdrive.

107
Xdrive Support

To do so, click the backup set that you wish to run so it is highlighted. Then click the Backup Now button.
Xdrive Desktop will immediately begin to back up your files to your Xdrive.

What is the difference between the Incremental and Full options for
Backup Type?
The Backup Type option allows you to set different rules based on what files need to be backed up.

When you select the Incremental backup option, only new and changed files will be copied to your Xdrive
during all backups following one full backup.

For example, you create a backup set that consists of two files—file A and file B—and you
select the Incremental backup option. The first time that you run a backup, both files will be copied to your
Xdrive. After the first backup, you make changes to file B and you also add a new file—file
C—to your backup set. The next time that backup is run, only files B and C will be copied to your
Xdrive.

When you select the Full backup option, all of the files in your backup set are copied to your Xdrive each
time that the backup runs. This option takes up the most space because every backup includes every file
and folder, regardless whether the file is already stored on your Xdrive.

If I backup incrementally, and I choose to keep up to 7 backups,

what happens on the 8th?
The system uses a practice called promotion, which merges the two oldest backups in the account into one.
Promotion compares the file versions of the two oldest backups, moves the newest files into the second-
oldest backup, and deletes the oldest. This way you can keep all of your important files backed up without
having to store an unlimited number of backups.

Should I consider using the "Use secure connection (SSL)"

option?
Checking the Use secure connection (SSL) option when backing up files with Xdrive Desktop will employ
an encrypted SSL (secure socket layer) connection. All data will be encrypted as it is transmitted, but it will
take longer to complete the backup.

109
Xdrive Support

What is the "Purge history file before backup" option?

If the Purge history file before backup check box is selected, the log file will be deleted each time a
backup run starts. This option ensures that the file does not grow too large, but you will only be able to
view logging information for the last backup performed.

Can I schedule backups on more than one computer?

Yes. Simply install Xdrive Desktop on each computer, and create separate backup sets. Both PCs will be
backed up to your Xdrive. Make sure to schedule the backups for different times, or give the sets different
names, so that the backups from the different computers are saved in different folders.

Do I need to be logged into my Xdrive in order for the scheduled

backup to run?
No. However, you do need to leave your computer on and connected to the Internet in order for the
scheduled backup to run successfully.

Frequently Asked Questions

How secure is Xdrive?

Once at Xdrive, your data is as safe as money in the bank. Your files are stored in IBM and Network
Appliance storage computers, and are accessed through the patented Xdrive File System (XFS). Security
was the number one priority in the design of XFS.

We take daily snapshots of all of the stored data for backup purposes. We also backup the data regularly.

Xdrive's physical hardware is located at a well-protected, professionally run data center with redundancy in
power, air conditioning, computers, and bandwidth providers.

With regard to Web credentials, Xdrive is a Verisign Secure Site, and a certified licensee of the TRUSTe®
Privacy Seal Program.

Does Xdrive offer any form of redundancy?

For the sake of security, we try to be redundant at every level of the system, so that if anything goes down
we have a spare resource and your files will still be available immediately. There's redundancy in our
physical infrastructure (power, air conditioning, switches, routers, bandwidth providers, application boxes)
and in our software (snapshots of the data, mirrors of the database, clustering, multiple instances, etc).

How does Xdrive's system handle multiple server access

requests?
To provide scalability and reliability, transparent load-balancing distributes incoming requests among
Xdrive application servers. All of our customers receive equally high performance results while accessing
and using their Xdrive account.

Does Xdrive offer any form of data encryption?

Yes. All customer sessions with Xdrive are protected using password authentication. Xdrive uses an
isolated, multi-tiered, gated network, with fully-encrypted data transfer.

Can Xdrive employees snoop at my data?

111
Xdrive Support

The information that links the files to their owners exists in a separate database, not with the files
themselves. Only a small number of authorized employees have access to this database.

Xdrive will only access your account in strict accordance with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy.

Does Xdrive have any web credentials for security?

Yes. Xdrive is a Verisign Secure Site. Our privacy statement and practices have also been reviewed by
TRUSTe for compliance with their strict program requirements, and Xdrive is a certified licensee of the
TRUSTe® Privacy Seal Program.

In case of a natural disaster, is my data with Xdrive safe?

Yes. Xdrive houses all data in a state-of-the-art, disaster-proof data center. The facility is protected by
biometric locks and full-time security professionals. In the event of a major catastrophe at the primary data
center, the tapes would be copied into a new server environment at the secondary center.

Is it safe for others to use my Xdrive account?

No. It is a security risk to divulge your password to anyone. Xdrive will never ask you for your password in
an unsolicited phone call or e-mail. If you want to give someone access to part of your account, use our
Share a Folder or Send a File feature.

Also, remember to sign out of your Xdrive account and close your browser window when you finish your
work. This is to ensure that others cannot access your personal information or files if you share a computer
or are using a public computer, such as in a library or Internet cafe. For more information please read the
User Accounts section in our Terms of Service.

Does Xdrive offer any form of personal guarantee?

No. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed 100% secure. As a result,
while we strive to protect your personal information, Xdrive cannot ensure or warrant the security of any
information you transmit to us or while using the service, and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive
your transmission, we make our best effort to ensure its security on our systems.
