EXTENSION PROGRAM PROPOSAL

Program Title: Training Series on Literacy Programs for Barangay Bitan-O, Sorsogon City

Total Number of Beneficiaries:


At least 500 community members composed of barangay officials and residents
of Bitan-O, Sorsogon City and nearby communities are the expected beneficiaries of this
extension program. The training series on Solid Waste Management and General
Education Enrichment will cater elementary and secondary students while Disaster Risk
Reduction, Mangrove Reforestation and Food Processing will be participated by
barangay officials and residents.

II. INTRODUCTION AND RATIONALE


This extension program entitled “Training Series on Literacy Programs” primarily
aims to disseminate information and equip community residents with knowledge and skills
relevant to livelihood, environmental protection and literacy. The literacy programs on
Solid Waste Management, Disaster Risk Reduction, Mangrove Reforestation, Food
Processing and General Education Enrichment may contribute to the sustainable
development of Barangay Bitan-O, Sorsogon City and other nearby communities. This
training series have been proven to improve capability building among communities
namely Brgy. Sampaloc, Ponong, Tugos, Almendras-Cogon, Sirangan, Burabod and
Talisay.

The literacy programs to be conducted are both relevant and practical to the
target participants including the barangay officials of Bitan-O, Sorsogon City and at least
500 residents of the community/ies.

III. DESCRIPTION OF THE PROJECT


The training series extension program of Sorsogon State College Teacher
Education Department is in partnership with Brgy. Bitan-O, Sorsogon City. The program
covers fifteen (15) consecutive Saturdays from September 3-December 17, 2016 focusing
on Food Processing, Mangrove Reforestation, Disaster Risk Reduction, Solid Waste
Management, and General Education Enrichment. Three consecutive Saturdays will be
allotted for each literacy program.

IV. OBJECTIVES
General:

This program aims to (1) conduct livelihood training through food processing; (2)
awaken citizen’s initiative in addressing environmental concerns through mangrove
management and protection, as well as proper waste management; (3) to capacitate
participants and provide basic knowledge on Disaster Risk Reduction(DRR) and Climate
Change Adaptation (CCA); (4) assist the barangay council in the implementation of solid
waste management program; and (5) conduct general education enrichment classes with
elementary and high school students

Specific:

1. Provide marketing opportunities/assistance to the participants


2. Establish a micro-enterprise project
3. Help in preserving nature through mangrove planting
4. Prevent soil erosion, shore widening and devastation of farm land
5. Promote awareness on Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation
6. To equip the participants with knowledge on the basic terms, concepts, and
realities on disaster risk reduction
7. Conduct a capability training program to help address the priority issues and
concerns in the implementation of ecological solid waste management program
8. Monitor the implementation of solid waste management program approved by
the barangay council
9. Review elementary and high school students on English, Math, Science, MAPEH and
Filipino subjects
10. Provide enrichment discussions on content subjects
Expected Outcome:

This extension program is expected to contribute to the sustainable development


of Barangay Bitan-O, Sorsogon City through livelihood trainings, enrichment classes and
environmental protection.

V. PROJECT MANAGEMENT

The project begins in assessment of the target barangay and planning of activities
for the training series. The extensionists will secure a Memorandum of Agreement with the
Barangay Council on the scope, limitation and responsibility of the partnership.

The following will be stated on the MOA of the partnership:

A. Barangay Council of Bitan-O, Sorsogon City- Assist in the conduct of the training
series including the participants and venue
B. Sorsogon State College- Conduct the training series, establish linkages with other
concerned government agencies, monitor the progress of the extension program
