Bharti Airtel Business

Background- India is currently the world’s second-largest telecommunications market with a


subscriber base of 1.20 billion. As of December 2018, India has 604.21 million internet
subscribers. In 2017, India surpassed the US to become the second largest market in terms of
number of app downloads. The country remained as the world’s fastest growing market for
Google Play downloads in the second and third quarter of 2018.As of January 2019, India has
witnessed a 165 per cent growth in app downloads in the past two years. The Indian mobile
economy is growing rapidly and will contribute substantially to India’s Gross Domestic
Product (GDP), according to a report prepared by the GSM Association (GSMA) in
collaboration with the Boston Consulting Group (BCG). Over the next five years, rise in
mobile-phone penetration and decline in data costs will add 500 million new internet users in
India, creating opportunities for new businesses.

Target Organisation- Bharti Airtel, incorporated on July 7, 1995 is the flagship company of
Bharti Enterprises. Bharti Airtel, is Asia’s leading integrated telecom services provider with
operations in India and Sri Lanka.
Headquartered in New Delhi, the Company offers its services to healthcare, government,
media, entertainment, education, and hospitality business. It also provides data center, video,
voice, data, network integration and managed services as well as mobile applications and
digital media solutions. Bharti has recently forayed into retail business as Bharti Retail Pvt.
Ltd. under a MoU with Wal-Mart for the cash & carry business. It has successfully launched
Bharti AXA Life Insurance Company under a joint venture with AXA, world leader in
financial protection and wealth management.

The businesses have been structured into three individual strategic business units (SBU’s) -
Mobile Services, Airtel Telemedia Services & Enterprise Services. The mobile business
provides mobile & fixed wireless services using GSM technology across 23 telecom circles
while the Airtel Telemedia Services business offers broadband & telephone services in 95
cities and has recently launched India's best Direct-to-Home (DTH) service, Airtel digital TV.
The Enterprise services provide end-to-end telecom solutions to corporate customers and
national & international long distance services to carriers. All these services are provided
under the Airtel brand. Airtel's high-speed optic fibre network currently spans over 90,205
kms covering all the major cities in the country. Also, the company has planned to launch
6,000 new sites and 2,000 km of optical fiber in Gujarat in 2018-19.

● In january 2019, Bharti Airtel and Buffalo Grid started providing free mobile
recharging for rural India
● In February 2019, Bharti Airtel opened its 100th Next-Gen Airtel Store in Kolkata
● In February 2018, Airtel and CISCO paired up to improve customer experience
● In February 2018, the company partnered with Google to introduce Android Go to
low cost 4G smartphones
● In august 2018, Airtel entered into the partnership with Netflix india to offer 3 months
free subscriptions to new and existing customers of select Airtel Postpaid and V-Fiber
Home broadband plans.
● In August 2018, the company launched ‘ Foreign Pass’ for prepaid customers in India.
● In August 2018, the company entered into a strategic alliance with Zee Entertainment
enterprises to drive growth of digital content
Competition: Bharat sanchar Nigam limited, Reliance JIO, Tata Teleservices Limited and
Vodafone group Plc are the major competitors of Bharti Airtel in India.
