LESSON PLAN

Course : Educational Research Methodology

Course Code : MK001
Credit Hours : 3
Lecturer : Nova Lingga Pitaloka
Time Allocation : 150 minutes

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this meeting, students are expected to be able to:
1. Identify the six steps in the process of analyzing and interpreting qualitative data.
2. Describe how to prepare and organize the data for analysis.
3. Describe how to explore and code the data.
4. Use codes to build description and themes.
5. Construct a representation and reporting of qualitative findings
6. Make an interpretation of the qualitative findings.
7. Advance validation for the accuracy of your findings.

LEARNING MATERIALS

The six steps in analyzing and interpreting qualitative data

In analyzing qualitative data, the steps are not always taken in sequence, but they represent
preparing and organizing the data for analysis; engaging in an initial exploration of the data
through the process of coding it; using the codes to develop a more general picture of the
data— descriptions and themes; representing the findings through narratives and visuals;
making an interpretation of the meaning of the results by reflecting personally on the
impact of the findings and on the literature that might inform the findings; and finally,
conducting strategies to validate the accuracy of the findings.

Preparing and organizing the data for analysis

- Organize data: organize the material, keeping duplicate copies

- Transcribe data: 2-inch margins, extra space, highlight questions, transcribe all words
- Analyze by hand or computer: hand analysis or computer analysis

Exploring and coding the data

Using codes to build description and themes

Representing and reporting findings

- Representing findings: table, tree diagram, figures, map, demographic table
- Reporting findings: narrative discussion: dialogues/quote

Interpreting Findings
- Summarize findings
- Convey personal reflection
- Make comparison to literature
- Offer limitation and suggestion

Validating the accuracy of findings

- Triangulation
- Member Checking
- External Audit

TEACHING METHOD
Numbered-head together, Lecturing, discussion, assigning task

TEACHING PROCEDURE
Pre-Activity
1. Teacher greets the students and check the attendance list
2. Teacher and students review/recall the previous material
3. Teacher and students brainstorm for the new material

Whilst Activity
1. Teacher asks students sit based on their assigned number
2. Teacher asks students to share and discuss their material together to have the same
understanding
3. Teacher asks students to go back to their original group (A,B,C,D) to teach their
friends about the material
4. Teacher calls students randomly to explain the material
5. Teacher confirms and clarify the materials by explaining it

Post-Activity
1. Teacher asks for students’ question
2. Teacher and students conclude the material
3. Teacher gives student assignment in the form of mini research project
4. Teacher closes the class
