Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

➢ Inventory of OR- supplies, equipment’s, instruments, and medicine carts every shift.
➢ Receive patients and endorsement from ER/Ward. Checks chart for completeness
specifically pre-operative checklist and consent and OB record.
➢ Secure consent form from patient / relative and by witness.
➢ Perform the duties and responsibilities of a Scrub nurse and observing sterile technique.
➢ Set up Operating room, instruments and supplies that vary according to type of
operation required to each patient.
➢ Functions as circulating nurse, provides additional supplies needed during the
procedure, and performs sharps, sponge and instrument counts per policy with the
scrub nurse.
➢ Insert IV cannula as needed.
➢ Patient confidentiality is maintained, and patient information is communicated only as

 needed to provide continuity of care.
➢ Remains with the patient during induction of anaesthesia and assisting
anaesthesiologist with the induction, assisting with gowning of surgical team members,
anticipating needs of the surgical team members and supplying items needed, sending
for the next patient in a timely manner and preparing for subsequent procedures.
➢ Responsible for making sure the OR team provides the patient with the best care
possible.
➢ Observe progress of procedure and selecting and handling of instruments and supplies
used for the operation.
➢ Forwards to Laboratory, specimens removed from the patient pathological examination
and labels properly.
➢ Reminds the Attending Physician to accomplish operative technique and final diagnosis
immediately after the procedure.
➢ Key in all charges right after the procedure in Medicine charge slip and computer.
➢ Records minor / major case at the logbook every shift.
➢ Post-operative monitoring of patient at the Recovery Room for at least two (2) hours or
depending on the condition of the patient.
➢ Accompanies patient to the room of choice and endorse properly the senior charge
nurse.
➢ Cleans and packs instruments used.
➢ Performs other functions as delegated.
➢ Monitor and record vital signs, heart beat, and keep Attending Physician updated.
