Heavenly Father be glorified and magnified in our midst tonight. Teach us your ways and precepts. IJN
we've prayed

John 8:28 - "Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that
I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as *my Father hath taught me*, I speak these things."

We learnt that Jesus was *taught* by His Father...

I want us to note the word "taught"

It is not the same as to receive by inheritance i.e to naturally have something. To be taught means to
"impart instruction, instill doctrine into one, to explain or expound a thing."

All these refers to receiving by means of tutelage

Pls let's take a deeper journey tonight and see a trend

Hebrews 5:8 - "Though he were a Son, *yet learned He* obedience by the things which he suffered;"

Did you see that...

Jesus "learned"

The scripture shows us a pattern for His learning was by His suffering... Yes!

However, our emphasis is on the fact that He learned, You know this puzzled me...

Because how does one who knows everything learn?

Why does He need to learn?

He knows all things right?,Or better still ...

On Earth, He knew all things right?

Yes!

Then why still be taught?

His Spirit knew all things but His Soul did not

*Because if His Soul knew all things then the word "learned" couldn't have applied to Him*

The word used for "learned" in Hebrews 5:8 is the Greek Word *Manthano*

: *Manthano* means to

-to learn

-to be appraised

-to increase one's knowledge

-to be increased in knowledge

The word is the same word Jesus Himself used in Matthew 11:29 saying - "Take my yoke upon you, and
*learn* of me..."

Do you see a pattern?

Ephesians 4:20 - "Ye have not so *learned* Christ"

The word "Mathetes" which is used for Disciple is derived from "Manthano"

That is why a Disciple is *a learner*

To be discipled means to learn...

But learning in this form does not just imply the receipt of intellectual knowledge

Many times because of our African Educational System... We picture learning as formal education to
gain head knowledge,learning in this form talks of *being cultured*

A "Mathetes" is one who has been trained to become like the one whom he/she followed

The concept of discipleship didn't exactly start during Jesus' earthly ministry...

It was a system of mentorship to make one subscribe to *the Way of life* of the one whom he
followed.So Jesus although He born fully God and fully man had to be mentored by thr Father *to
become*

Discipleship is *Education* to a way of life

Question - When Education takes place what is the most important part of you that id required?

*Your Soul*

Mind, Will and Emotions

Do you know the key to being like someone is not to dress like Him?; Or to do even plastic surgery? 😂

I remember a movie I used to watch repeatedly as a kid - *Mission Impossible*

There was a particular way the Agents there could replicate a person... By wearing masks

But there were some cases that those Agents were found out...

By those who knew them heart-to-heart,Because although there was the facial replication

It was not the same in thought

Who you are is a function of *How you think*; Proverbs 23:7 - "As a man thinks so he is"

The pivotal point of becoming is in the *transformation of the soul*

And that's where culture takes place

Remember

*Culture is way of life*

And my life (who I am) is a *product of my thoughts*

So I'll like to propose to you that...

*Culture is a way of thoughts*

Or you could say *Culture is a way of thinking*

That is why every man has a Culture

Because every man has a mode of Culture

Your depth of conformity to Christ is not measured by your Prayer and fasting life

It's not even measured by any external factor (a product of doing)

Your depth of conformity to Christ is measured by your conformity to His thoughts...

Somebody knows where we are going

I can sense this

So here's the key...

And it's revealed in a scripture

John 8:31 - "Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If *ye continue in my word*, then are
ye my disciples indeed;"

The word "continue" is better rendered by the NKJV translation

Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you *abide in My word*, you are My disciples
indeed

The word for *abide* simply means to dwell, to reside...

As in make your home

So Jesus is saying -

*if you make your home(dwell, reside) in my Word then are you my disciples indeed*

Where is your home - where you live

*If you live in my Word then are you my disciples indeed*

Pls pray in the Spirit and ask the Lord to make this your reality

The Word "word" as used here means more than just "speech"

It is rendered as *logos*

And it firstly implies *the thoughts* of a being

That is his/her mode of thinking

If you look up the use of the word in the scriptures, you'll see that it was also used to refer to how
people reasoned

The logos of God implies *His thoughts, speech and reasoning*

So the primary object of Discipleship is to bring you to a state of God-consciousness

This doesn't mean being falsely lifted by pride but it's a state of function which Apostle Paul described
saying...

1 Corinthians 2:16 (NLT) -For,

" *Who can know the Lord’s thoughts?*

Who knows enough to teach him?”

But we understand these things, *for we have the mind of Christ.*"

Your Spirit has the capacity of the mind of Christ but discipleship translates that capacity to your soul

And this mind of Christ is brought to functionality by the principle called

*Renewing Of The Mind* Romans 12:2

you mind and soul-consciousness to that of Christ

When we think like Christ we will live as Christ

So *Training To Become* is a Training to think as He does...

Because when I think as He does, I will live as He does

And hope you know all Christ thought was Love 😂

If I think Love... I will become Love

us to walk in your precepts and Ways. And enable us to live as you want us to IJN.
