Nowadays most green energy is becoming evermore prevalent in both developed

and developing countries. Some argue they greatly reduce costs and are better
for the environment, others believe they are a serious threat to energy security.

Renewable energy, also known as green energy, is the need of the hour for the globe today and
environment friendly sources of power generation are gaining popularity in both developing
and developed nations. While environmentalists support such energy sources due to the
benefits to the earth, industrialists and others are of the notion that green energy poses
tremendous danger to energy security. In my opinion, clean energy is beneficial for the planet
despite the criticism it faces.

Firstly, using non-renewable resources for the purpose of power generation causes irreversible
ecological damage to the planet, a reason why sustainable energy sources should be utilized.
For instance, in recent studies conducted by several ecologists, it was discovered that there was
a ten percent rise in the emissions caused due to coal burning for electricity generation, over
the last decade. Further, sustainable energy sources such as solar, wind, and water energy are
both cost-effective and environment-friendly. For example, immaculately constructed water
reservoirs and dams harness river water and generate electricity, without incurring the
exorbitant costs that thermal power plants do.

On the contrary, some capitalists and industrialists favor conventional and non-renewable
resources over the sustainable ones because of their self-centered interests. They think that the
rising popularity of clean and alternative energy sources would hamper their businesses.
However, this is not true as in the case of hybrid cars, the gasoline consumption is lower but
not negligible. People employed in energy sector fear that they would be jobless due to the
widespread use of green energy, a situation which can be tackled by employing them in the
green sector. An example to support this is the state of Nevada, which hired 1200 people
recently in a wind turbine farm.

In conclusion, renewable sources of energy are not only beneficial for our present generation
but also for the future ones. Thus, the people who show resentment towards the cleaner fuels
should be more empathetic towards the planet than being selfish for their short-term gains.
