Water Supply Calculation

 Domestic Cold water system:
 General Description:

Domestic water supply will be obtained from the main city water network and stored in
POLYETHYLENE storage tank to be located at ground floor.

Water will be pumped from storage tank to a roof water tank through transfer water
pumps. From this roof water tank, water will be distributed for all building facilities by
means of gravity except for the upper three floors which requires booster pump set to
achieve the proper water head at these levels.

 Basis of Design

Design for cold water pipes is based upon diversified load for fixtures used
intermittently on the system.
Pipe sizes will be determined by the fixture unit method. The weight in fixtures
units is tabulated below in accordance with National Plumbing Code Handbook:

Fixture Type Fixture Unit

Water Closet-Public Flush Tank 5
Water Closet-Private Flush Tank 3
Lavatory-Public 2
Lavatory-Private 1
Urinal-Flush Valve 5
Urinal-Flush Tank 3
Bidet 2
Drinking Fountain 2
Restaurant Kitchen Sink 4
Kitchen Sink 2
Public Shower Head 4
Private Shower Head 2
Hose Bib 3
Laundry (dish washer or washing machine) 2

Determination of demand and usage will follow the recommendations of the

National Plumbing Code Handbook.
System will be designed so as to ensure a minimum residual pressure of 20 meter
of water.

Storage water Tanks:

Residential water demand:

According to uniform plumbing code, at office building

Assume 2 person for each bedroom
No of person=12
According to uniform plumbing code, water demand = 270 liter/ person/day
Total residential water demand = (12)X270= 3.24 m3/day
Use 1 water tank at the roof =1500 gallon(storage 1day)
Diameter=1.97m ,hight=2.60m

GYM demand:

Assume No of person=12
Total residential water demand = (12)X50= 0.60 m3/day
Use 1 water tank at the roof floor =400 gallon(storage 1day)
Diameter=1.25m ,hight=1.33m

Out.Kit demand:

Use 1 water tank at the roof floor =400 gallon(storage 1day)

Diameter=1.25m ,hight=1.33m

Driver Quarter:

According to uniform plumbing code, at office building

Assume 2 person for each bedroom
No of person=6
According to uniform plumbing code, water demand = 270 liter/ person/day
Total residential water demand = (6)X270= 1.62 m3/day
Use 1 water tank at the roof floor =400 gallon(storage 1day)
Diameter=1.25m ,hight=1.33m
Transfer water pumps:
Roof water tank is to be filled in 1Hours
Q=volume / time = 11.73/1 = 11.73 m3/Hr = 3 L/sec
Use two transfer water pumps each of capacity = 3 L/sec (one is stand by)
Static head = 10m (from drawings)
Friction losses = 20% of static head = 10*0.2 = 2 m
Total pumps head = 10+2 = 12m take it =20 m
