Welcome to 8th grade Math! I hope you will find our class to be a great learning experience - one that
will be both challenging and fun. We will work to build algebraic reasoning and problem solving skills to
correspond with the Common Core State Standards and the Standards for Mathematical Practice. In our
class we will balance conceptual understanding with procedural fluency so that we are well-rounded
mathematicians prepared for high school. Please read this syllabus with your parents/ guardians and let me
know if you have any questions. I look forward to working with you as we explore the fascinating world of
math that I love!

Ø Materials to have EVERYDAY:

• Designated “math section” in a three ring binder (or a separate binder – does NOT need to be
new). This syllabus is the last page, then you will add the most recent papers on top.
• Notebook (Spiral or composition – FOR MATH ONLY)
• Graph paper
• Basic calculator (Non-scientific and must include “ ”)

and be a productive member of a group.

After 1 or 2 warnings/prompts, the following consequences may be applied together or
separately, depending on the severity of the behavior: Behavior journal with parent signature

!
Ø Extra Help: It is important to get extra help. I LOVE math and I am here to help you, so
please never be afraid to ask!!!
• Set up an appointment anytime! I’m always available if I don’t have a meeting. It’s best
to schedule a time to make sure I will be in the classroom J.
• I will offer a study session during lunch the day before a test or a quiz.
• Math Lab is held every Tuesday from 3:15 to 4:15 in room 724 or 725.

Math Rocks.
Ø Homework:
• Expect 15-20 min. of homework most nights. If your homework is taking longer, please see
me!!! No new homework will be assigned on Fridays.
• All homework assignments will be posted as an announcement on Google Classroom.
• Learning from mistakes is important for mastering a concept, so you will be
expected to check answers at home and correct your homework.
• Math homework is important for practicing concepts on your own. We will move at a fast pace,
so be sure to ask questions, and understand any mistakes before moving on!!!

Ø Academic Honesty: As a student of LCHS you are expected to be honest

and have integrity. Examples of academic dishonesty include: turning in work that is
not uniquely your own, copying from another student, allowing a student to copy your work, sharing
exam answers/information with students from other periods and/or cheating/plagiarizing in any way.
Being dishonest will result in failure of the assignment as well as additional disciplinary measures as seen
fit by the administration.

Thank you in advance for you dedication and enthusiasm, I look forward to a great year! Remember that
only YOU can decide to give your best effort, and as long as you do that, you WILL be successful! If at any
time you have a question or there is anything I can help with, please let me know – I love math and
I am here to help you reach your goals!
