SINGAPORE

The place name "Singapore" is derived fromSinga-pura("City of the


Lion"), a commonly used term since the fourteenth century.
Singapore, an island city-state off southern Malaysia, is a global
financial center with a tropical climate and multicultural population.

LANGUAGE:

Singapore has four official languages that were chosen to represent the largest ethnic groups in the
country.

ENGLISH- Due to Singapore’s history as a British colony.

MANDARIN CHINESE- To unite the large Chinese population.

MALAY- Which double as the national language of Singapore because it’s the language of the
indigenous population.

TAMIL- To represent the Indian population of Singapore.

BELIEFS AND TRADITIONS:


Singaporeans learn about the religious customs and traditions of other population groups early on. On
the list of public holidays in Singapore are Christian, Muslim, and Indian holidays, among others. The
state is home to ten major religions, includingBuddhism, Taoism, Islam, Hinduism, and Christianity.

The main cultural traditions are Malay, Indian, Chinese, and to some extent Western (British). The
different communities do not regard themselves as sharing a culture; instead, they consider themselves
parts of a whole. This is illustrated by reference to a popular local dish,Rojak, a salad in which the various
ingredients are covered by the same peanut sauce, forming a distinct whole with each ingredient clearly
discernible. The peanut sauce is Singaporeanness; the other ingredients are the different cultural
traditions.

FASHION:

Their other traditional dress is the figure-hugging sarong kebaya, made up of a tightblouse and skirt of
fine batik wrapped around the body. It's the uniform of the Singapore Airlines stewardess. Men wear
the baju melayu, a shirt worn over a sarong or trousers.

FOOD:
Three noodle dishes stand out in Singapore cuisine. "Fried Hokkien mee", fried egg noodles with
prawns, sliced pork and gravy, "Nyonya laksa", rice noodles served in a coconut prawn broth and "Char
Kuey Teow", stir-fried rice noodles with prawns, Chinese sausage, lard and cockles.
VIETNAM
Vietnam is a Southeast Asian country on the South China Sea
known for its beaches, rivers, Buddhist pagodas and bustling
cities.

LANGUAGE:

Vietnamese (tiếng Việt) is the only official language in Vietnam. It is the first or second language
of many ethnic minorities in Vietnam, but some mountain tribes also speak a language of their
own. Vietnamese is among the 20 most spoken languages in the world, spoken by around 80
million people worldwide.

BELIEFS AND TRADITIONS:

Religious Beliefs.
The Vietnamese government recognizes six official religions: Buddhism, Catholicism,
Protestantism, Islam, and two indigenous religious traditions that emerged during the colonial
period, Cao Dai and Hoa Hao.

FASHION:

Vietnamese clothing refers to the traditional clothes worn in Vietnam. During the Nguyễn
dynasty, the Vietnamesewere forced to wear Chinese style clothing. But now from the
twentieth century onward Vietnamese people wearclothing that is popular internationally.

FOOD:
Food lovers may have tried the two best knownVietnamese dishes – spring rolls and bread
rolls. Rice, noodles, fresh vegetable and herbs all play big roles in Vietnamese food, making it
one of the healthiest cuisines in the world. In Vietnam you'll discover one unmistakable
fact: Vietnamese people love noodles.
INDONESIA
Indonesia, a Southeast Asian nation made up of thousands of
volcanic islands, is home to hundreds of ethnic groups speaking
many different languages.

LANGUAGE:

Indonesian. Bahasa Indonesia is the official language of Indonesia, an archipelago of 17,508


islands that is the world's largest Muslim-majority nation, with a total population of nearly 242
million. Over 300 different native languages are spoken in Indonesia.

BELIEFS AND TRADITIONS:

Indonesia is notorious with its huge Muslim population; the largest in the world despite being a
secular country by law. But Islam is just one of six official religions acknowledged in the country
Islam, Protestantism, Catholicism, Hinduism, Buddhism, and Confucianism.

FASHION:

Men wear pants and shirts, sometimes with a tie. Women generally wear dresses orskirts and
blouses. Indonesian clothing is light in weight because of the hot and humid climate. Young
people wear casual clothes like jeans and T-shirts.

FOOD:
Indonesian traditional meals usually consists of steamed rice as staple, surrounded by
vegetables and soup and meat or fish side dishes. In a typical family meal, the family members

gather around the table filled with steamed rice and several other dishes.
