II. SSF Project Description

Rationale/Background: Dapitan Bay is renowned among one of the riches fishing grounds in
East Sulu Sea. It is famous of its abundance of pelagic fishes such as
scads, mackerels, sardinillas, tuna and like fishes and other bottom
species which finely become the sources of income among the local
small scale fishermen employing different types of fishing gears.

The waters of Dapitan down to Rizal and in Sindangan is so impressive

as it has stacks deposited in ocean bed that are so rich in the remains of
living organism such as fishes. It has good supply of resources
underwater that by – products can be yielded and be able to transform
these into salted fish which almost all Filipinos love to taste.

However, it is observed that fisher folks and women in the area, their
method of processing salted and dried fish is in the primitive way. It is
suggested that for the better services and safety among the target
consumers, is the provision of fiberglass brining tubs for use in the
dried fish production. The end view of this project is to ensure that the
constituents are protected from health hazards in as much as the by –
products are to be sold in the market. Henceforth, this proposal is made
in the interest of safeguarding people from unhygienic and filthy food
products.
Objective: To improve the methods and quality of processing salted fishes,
To prevent contamination of processed food products
To improve the quality of dried fish.
To preserve sardinillas and other pelagic species for food consumption
During lean months
Organization Management: By Association
Expected Output: This project is geared towards upgrading the process of salting and
drying fish by utilizing a modern technology through usage ofa brining
tub of fiber glass and/or plastic tub. This is to ensure a clean, safe and
hygienic method of processing srdinillas or tuloy and other variety. This
is further envisioned to build a solid business reputation salted fish
industry in the province.

 This project is also expected to generate more product lines of

dried fish in the area.
 Improved productivity and product marketability
 Provide affordable and quality dried fish
