Course Description: This course presents the basic structure and techniques of
algebra. A balance is sought between learning concepts and skills, with major emphasis
on the structure of the real number system, solving equations and word problems, open
sentences, graphing, inequalities, factoring, rational and irrational numbers and
quadratic equations. A strong background with fractions, decimals, signed numbers,
and the four operations of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division is essential.

Pencils and erasers. (No pens)
Homework: Homework will be assigned with each unit and posted in
Google Classroom as well as on the board in C 3. Homework will be checked and
count towards your final grade. While you may seek assistance from fellow students or
tutors, the work should be your own. Copying someone else’s homework is a violation
of the Honor Code.

Assessments: Each unit will have one test and different quizzes to check
progress. Dates to note: Exams: December 19, 20, 2019 and May 27, 28, 2020
Grades: Grades will be calculated using the following categories:
Homework: 20%
Quizzes: 35%
Tests: 45%
Grading will follow the Trinity Episcopal School Grading
Scale: A: 100 94; B: 93 86; C: 85 78; D : 77 70; F: 69 0
Absences: When absent, check the website for assignments. You are
responsible for what you missed that day. Homework is due upon your return to school.
If you miss an assessment, you must make that up in Study Hall when you return.
Communication is key here and all items must be made up promptly. If there is an
extenuating circumstance, we will work together to develop a plan for makeup work.
