SEMI- DETAILED LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 9

I. OBJECTIVES

At the end of the discussion, the Grade 9 students will be able to:

 identify the importance of punctuation marks; and


 use appropriate punctuation marks in a sentence.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Punctuation Marks

(Using semicolons, colons, apostrophe, dash, hyphens and quotation marks)

Reference: Practical English Book 9 (pp.35)

Materials: teacher made visuals, green board and book

III. PROCEDURE

A. PRELIMINARIES

o Prayer
o Greetings
o Management
o Checking of Attendance
o Recapitulation

B. Motivation

What is a punctuation mark?

Who can give an example of punctuations marks?

C. Lesson Proper

Activity

Procedures:

 There are six scrambled letters to be given.


 The punctuations marks on the middle will serve as a clue to form the letters.
 The class will be divided into six groups.
 The students will arrange those letters to form a word that correspond to the
punctuations marks given.

Abstraction

 The teacher will explain the relevance of the activity in the lesson.
 The teacher will introduce the 6 punctuation marks together with examples.
 The teacher will let the students give an example.

Analysis

 Why do we need to use punctuations? What is its importance?


 How can we identify punctuations errors?

Application

Procedure:

 The class will be divided into 2 groups.


 There are sentences on the board.
 The students will put punctuation marks to complete the sentence.
 There should be no repetition of students in answering.
 The group with the highest score will be the winner.
 This activity is only for 10 minutes.

1. My favorite movie is Saving Private Ryan.


2. I cant find the remote in the TV.
3. Who goes there? said the sentry.
4. Class was canceled today Mr. Smith was home sick.
5. The sixteen year old girl is a full time student.
6. The ratio of boys to girls is 3 2.
7. I opened the door and there she stood my long lost sister.
8. Let’s go to the library there are 15 different books I’d like to take out.

IV. EVALUATION

Get ½ Sheet of paper. Answer the activity letter A on page 36. Write your answers
on the book. Strictly no erasures.

 They are going to put in the necessary punctuation marks in the excerpt, “
Pizzarama – Pizzas made with magic.
V. ASIGNMENT

Write a feature article that discuss your top five picks on a topic of your choice (e.g.
top five best video games, restaurants, movies, etc.)Make sure to observe the correct use of
the punctuation marks discussed earlier.
