SERVING BEDPAN

1. To lessen the transmission of microorganisms.

end is the best in the support of the backside of the patient.
d. This will make it easier for the patient to get on the bedpan, even if turn sheet is used.
10. These instances may lead to accidents or leakages from the patients, so the sheets will need to
be replaced. The bedpan will go under the bed momentarily while the patient is tended to. The
same procedure of changing sheets for an in-bed patient applies.

REMOVING BEDPAN

1. In the instance that the patient may want to clean themselves, or the nurse may also clean if
patient is unable to.
2. To thoroughly and properly clean the genital area so no lingering bacteria is present.
3. Privacy of the patient must be preserved as much as possible.
4. Out of courtesy to the patient if they wish to further clean themselves.
5. Assist those who need the help for safety but allow those who are capable to be independent.
The bedpan when done is placed under the bed momentarily while the patient is tended to.

dried from the genital area to promote comfort and prevent bacteria buildup.
7. Do aftercare and make sure that client is comfortable after the completion of the procedure.
