Based from the given structures the students will describe

carbonyl compounds.

Let the students perform Activity 6 by group(4-6

members/group)(see attached activity sheets)
C. ACTIVITY

Activity 6: What is common between Acetone and Formalin?

The students will present their answers to the guide questions

in activity 6.
Q1.What are the common uses of acetone and formalin?

Use the illustrations of the structures of acetone, and

formaldehyde (formalin) below to answer the questions.

D. ANALYSIS

Q2. What types of bonds do the common compounds have in

their structures?
Q3. Formalin and acetone are common carbonyl containing
compounds. Why do you think they both belong in the
group of carbonyl containing compounds?
Ask;
How will you relate the structures of acetone, and formalin to
the carbonyl compounds where they belong?
Then elaborate the key Concepts:
E. ABSTRACTION  Carbonyl compounds like acetone, and
formaldehyde have a carbonyl functional group,
C=O, which is chemically bonded to a carbon atom
in the compound.
Students by group will do the “Paint me a Picture” game
F. APPLICATION showing the uses of the given examples of carbony
compounds.
