Collaborative Creation platform

1.1 Let hums.co walk the talk

“hums.co” is not only the URL for accessing the HumSafar virtual museum on
your browser, it’s an acronym for the very spirit of it. hums.co describes the
very experience itself: hosted user’s museum server for concurrent,
collaborative, contributory, construction of collections and conducting

Lets dwell a bit more on the salient aspects:

1. concurrent – HumSafar allows several users to work simultaneously

on the very same gallery.

2. collaborative – Users can collaborate together with each one handling

a different aspect such as uploading, arranging, labelling and
enhancing.

3. contributory – The gallery emerges with the material contributed by

several users.

4. construction – The gallery is like a construction of a new website, not

through any specialized designer, but with the cooperative actions of
the users themselves.

5. of collection – Finally a precious collection emerges in the Gallery

through the co-creation activities.

6. and conducting – The Users can now supplement the collection for
allowing conducting of Quizzes, Polls, Surveys and Voting.

1.2 The need for OnTheSpot creation

HumSafar has emerged as a unique platform in the world for OnTheSpot
creation of collections – which appear as venerable galleries of a virtual
Museum. Unlike a website, a gallery emerges through concurrent,
contributions of the co-operating users. It takes away the need for a separate

.
digital HumSafar

agency to handle the creation work, and allows the creations to be viewed
immediately – OnTheSpot.

OnTheSpot creation is a new emergent need which has not been catered to
by any software/hardware in the world. Simultaneous collaborative creation of
a single large page has been missing in the software domain. The
popular/professional page makeup software such as MS-World, Power-point,
Corel-Draw, Facebook, Instagram etc. allow only one person to create at a
time – a big bottleneck for OnTheSpot events.

In the real world, though, displays come up on-the-spot through concurrent

collaborative work. We see this happening in updating of a notice board by
different people pinning up different notices at different parts and somebody
rearranging the same. The same happens while creating a stall in an
exhibition, or even making a public Rangoli, with several people contributing
simultaneously.

In real-world a museum gallery is also created with concurrent collaborative

work of several people with different skill sets. Some people bring in the
exhibits, some enhance them, some decide where to put them, while some
frame them and attach the description plates beneath them.

1.3 HumSafar: OnTheSpot platfrom

HumSafar has created the first OnTheSpot platform in the world for
collaborative concurrent construction of collections. So the collection emerges
as the real-time events are unfolding and nothing is left to be done later on,
after the priorities have lapsed and people move on to different things.
HumSafar allows event galleries to be created OnTheSpot, with nothing left
pending.

HumSafar portable Wifi Server, allows the same collaborative work to be

done in any Spot of the world, without requiring any internet connection. The
Users contribute to it, through their mobile devices itself, using the Wifi of the
HumSafar. They can share continuously opinion about what has to be done,
verbally itself, since they are in proximity.

HumSafar even allows real-time syncing of the galleries to a HumServer on

the internet, so that the same unfolding event can be seen from anywhere in
the world.

In fact, the Users can get a taste of OnTheSpot creation ability through the
internet HumServer itself. So on the HumServer cloud, many Users can

simultaneously login from different places in order to create or add to a

common gallery. They can share opinion with each other through a
conference call or some chatting software. Following activities can happen
concurrently.

1. Uploading of material such as Pictures, Videos and Documents.

2. Re-arranging of material, as well as removal of some material.

3. Adding Labels and Previews to the exhibits.

4. Enhancement of exhibits.

1.4 HumSafar Collaboration in a School

The collaborative usage environment provided by the HumSafar, would allow a
gallery to be rapidly created through contributions of numbers of students,
working on an assigned project. They can upload pictures/videos of say, some
pottery they have made, and upload some write-up on the design principles, what
they have achieved and what can be enhanced in future. All this can be viewed
and judged simultaneously by the whole class, based on which automatic ranking
can come about.

After a field trip in a botanical garden, the students can upload picture/videos of
the plants which fascinated them, as well as some top 5 points on what they
learnt. These can then be seen by the whole class and can become the basis for
a motivated discussion.

Senior students can be encouraged to make some fascinating videos of say their
visit to some industrial or tourist places, or even recording the growth of a sapling
in their home. They can then prepare a power-point presentation, and upload it to
the HumSafar. The teacher can then conduct a mini-seminar, by having each
student show on the projector their videos and the slides. Each one will be on the
toes, because a Poll will be conducted afterwards for ranking the presentations
on various aspects.

A higher-end HumSafar, can be permanently kept in the school library. It will

allow simultaneous high-speed access to all the students present out there. The
librarians along with the help of students can enrich it with whole lot of public
domain e-books in various languages. Students can be encouraged to make the
value-additions for the same, such as supporting pictures, biographies and
synopsis. It will be an on-going collection which each school will be proud of.

Schools can pool in common resources, such as e-books to the HumServer

Cloud and share with each other. The individual credits will remain on who
sourced the material. This will compel more schools to join the band-wagon, and
enrich the collection further.

Students will love to add educational videos, downloaded from the net or made
themselves. They can value-add with captions and voice-overs. As many of the
YouTube videos keep getting removed, it would be wise to preserve the useful
videos, by downloading them once in the HumSafar.

Atleast one OTS (OnTheSpot) HumSafar can always be made available in the
library, for carrying to classes and conducting a special session with the rich
material inside it. This can be also taken for covering outside events, such as
sports meet, cultural functions etc.

HumSafar, can be initially used for the more "fun-oriented" activities - as best of
the things are always ingrained by the unconscious the fun-way. So this can be
used for trivia Quizzes on which prizes can be given. It can be used for having
people vote on who among the candidates should be chosen for various posts of
the student body. Ratings can be got for the various food-items in the canteen
and even who are the best teachers. Everyone will be on the toes.

HumSafar, with its ease of use, sharing and collaborative working - will become
the much needed platform for every school, where every important activity is
recorded OnTheSpot, so that it not only motivates the participating students, but
raises the bar for the subsequent ones. PCs have notoriously failed to fill this
vacuum, for this new OnTheSpot platform.

The need of the hour, thus is introducing HumSafar in each school as a

"OnTheSpot" cultural catalytic platform. This will automatically lead to it getting
integrated in a evolutionary way in the "Adaptive Education" in the classes.

1.5 Other HumSafar Collaborative Applications

The applications are wide and varied. They get facilitated by the fact that
HumSafar can work for the whole day without electrical connection, or any
internet. They end up catalyzing all the real-world real-time events, without
any dependency.

1. Covering of an out-door event, with user contributed photographs

and videos. Even professional photographers can keep sending
their photographs on Wifi, for immediate access.

2. Disaster Management, where the team shares their findings

through the common galleries on the HumSafar.

3. Seminars, where the registered members can send presentation

material and feedback to the HumSafar, which can be seen on a
common projection screen.

4. Quizzes, Polls and Market Surveys, where the audience

participates through their mobiles.

5. OnTheSpot competitions where the photos/videos of each

participant’s performance is uploaded by some users and gets
voted by all the registered members. The voted uploads, can re-
arrange themselves based on the ranking.

6. Creation of a team travelogue, where the team members keep

uploading interesting photo/videos of the places they are visiting to
the HumSafar Gallery.
