
8 If you don’t have any experience with DIALux evo, I advise you to start with DIALux evo Tutorial 4 which explains more basic

Once you download the file setup you will find two versions 32 bit
and 64 bit64 bit is faster for complex projects but cannot import
DIALux 4 project so if you are dealing with complex project it
would be good.

Feature 1- real time light visualization

One of the nice addition in evo 3 is the show light visualizationThis

feature enables you to see on real time the light where you can
adjust the light as required before you run the calculation.You can
activate this feature form the display option in the upper right cor‐
ner.

Once the Show Light Visualisation is activatedSelect any light to

see its light.If you select a spotlight with tiltable head then you can

tilt the head and see the difference in real time.

It is not only for tiltable luminaire but you can see the light once
you select move rotate any luminaire.

With this feature you can have perfect distribution before calcula‐
tion!

Feature 2- evo easy

This feature is very good for beginners and for quick calculation of
a simple room.You can start a room quickly form the start window
interface.

You can enter the room size quickly and you don’t get the other
icons which could confuse the user.

On the light you can quickly add automatic arrangements for

spaces.Again the interface is simplified to make options limited to
avoid confusionsThen you can calculate and see an easy report
on the documentation

If you want to switch back to full options and see the other func‐
tionalities you can do that after creation of the room form the up‐
per right corner drop menu

Feature 3- Energy assessment

You can now see the energy consumption form the display op‐
tions in the upper right corner.

can adjust the default values of the time and space typeyou can
also insert energy sensor which could reduce the consummation.

From TachometerLENI which is kWh/year/m2total assumption per

year kWh/year

the cost where you have to put the tariff and the currency symbol

Feature 3- HDR image export

From calculation mode- Reytracer icon you can save output of the
view as HDR image.You can only do that after calculation.

You can make the resolution higher before export

many software support HDR like photoshopbut if you don’t have

HDR viewer you can download a free software like Picturenaut
form the following link:http://www.hdrlabs.com/picturenaut/in‐
dex.html

The advantage of HDR is that you could adjust the brightness of

the image

In Picturenaut you can adjust the brightness form the lower left
corner slideYou can also make it Auto.

Feature 4- Street calculation

In evo3 you can do street calculation using the Scheme editor

You can select the Illuminate conditions based on the following ta‐

In the Street Profile if you select the roadwayYou can edit the
name width the CIE SurfaceYou can also adjust the direction of
travel for each lane.

From Street profile you can also add different lane as sidewalk
and move them by arrow

By selecting each lane you can modify the lane properties

If you select the valuation fieldsYou can select the Illuminance

class for street and each other lane.To get more information on

In the planning mode you can add road luminaire arrangement

You can select other types of luminaire and added as a vari‐

ant.The optimization will give you the best possible luminaire with
the best possible arrangement to achieve the required luminance

If you select a luminaire you can put the arrangement type as one
side tow side staggered of in the middle.You can also optimize the
pole distance (distance between luminaires) by putting the max,
minimum and steps of distance for optimization.This information
will be calculated by the DIALux evo to give you the best possible
result.

You can also optimize other parameter like the luminaire height,
arm distance , tilting of luminaire, the more values for optimization
the more time will take for calculation.You can optimize many lu‐
minaires to see what the best arrangement and light distribution
that suits the street condition.

Start optimize all schemes to see the results

After optimization is done then you can see the results form the
result mode.You can hide the insufficient items form properties.Y‐
ou can also export the file as CSV and view it in excel or similar
software.

DIALux will automatically select the best result with maximum dis‐
tance but if you wish to select any other situation then click on it to
appear in the documentation.

In the documentation you can have the report with pole configura‐
tion and required and achieved values.

Feature 5- adding luminaire for all spaces

If you select story or building view you have the option to put one
luminaire in the unit spaces.That could be usfuel if you have one
luminaire type for all rooms , this is not new to evo 3 but I thought
it is good to highlight it here .

Feature 6- Adding the room lay‐

out in the room summary.

Now the room layout is generated in the room summary like DI‐
ALux 4

I am sure there are other improvement but those features are the most useful in my opinion

I have a question regarding export to excel. I have seen that I can export the list of all the luminaires used and the quantites of each room. But
I can’t seem to find it and I have googled it everywhere.
