Most of us use WhatsApp daily for sending text messages, images and videos.

But there are many more

features of WhatsApp that you may be unaware of.

1. Starring Messages-
If there is a message which contains some important details (like address) that you may want to
refer to later on, then WhatsApp allows you the bookmark that message.

Press and hold the message -> Select Star icon ( ☆)

To view all your starred messages, Go to Settings -> Starred Messages

2. WhatsApp Web
Many times we are working on the computer and cannot see our phones constantly for
WhatsApp messages. WhatsApp Web allows you to use WhatsApp on your computer.

Go to https://web.whatsapp.com/ from your computer. Go to Settings -> WhatsApp Web from

your phone and scan the code on the computer to start using WhatsApp Web.

3. Send PDF Files

Now no need to use Gmail to send PDFs, you can simply use WhatsApp.

4. See when your Messages are read

A single tick indicates that the message was sent from your phone. A double tick indicates the
message was delivered to the recipient. And a blue double tick indicates that the message was
read by the recipient. To view this information: -
Press and hold on the message -> Select the icon

5. Hide your read time

Many times you just read a message but decide to reply later. But the other person can see that
you have read the message and haven’t replied, which may lead to a problem! So to avoid such
situations, you can hide the time of when you read the message.

Go to Settings -> Account -> Privacy -> Switch off Read Receipts.

Beware, doing this would mean that you cannot see if people have read your messages either.
However, read receipts would always be sent for group chats.
I discussed some features of WhatsApp in my previous blog. There were some other features too which I
decided to share with you guys in this blog post.

1. Formatting texts
WhatsApp allows text formatting- bold, italics and strike.
 Bold- Enclose text between two *. Eg: *Hello* -> Hello
 Italics- Enclose text between two _ . Eg: _Hello_ -> Hello
 Strike- Enclose text between two ~.

2. View all links and documents

Many times you want to view some important link or document that was sent on a group some
time back. No need to find it by scrolling up in the chats.
Simply press Media on the chat to view all images, videos, links and documents.

3. Reply without opening WhatsApp

You can simply reply from the notification bar.
Also, you can switch on pop ups which opens up a WhatsApp window whenever a new message
arrives.

Go to Settings -> Notifications -> Popup notification

4. Shortcuts to conversations
We all have some certain people or groups with whom we interact quite frequently. So you can
add a conversation shortcut to these chats on your home screen to directly access these chats.

Press and hold on the chat -> Select Add Conversation Shortcut.

5. Mute chats
There are certain groups which are constantly active. This can become irritating sometimes and
you can’t even leave the group. So WhatsApp allows you to mute the chat i.e. not notify you
with vibration or sound but just show it in the notifications bar. You can even turn off the
notifications where the messages wouldn’t even appear in the notifications bar but just show
when you open WhatsApp.
