Prob.1:   The   12-‐kg   steel   sphere   is   suspended   from   the   20-‐kg   frame   which   slides   down
the  250  incline.  If  the  coefficient  of  kineBc  fricBon  between  the  frame  and  incline
is  0.2,  compute  the  tension  in  each  of  the  supporBng  wires  A  and  B.

Consider  frame  and  sphere  together

Prob.  1  conBnued

Consider  sphere  alone

Prob.  2:  Determine  the  range  of  applied  force  F  over  which  the  block  of  mass  m2  will  not
slip  on  the  wedge  shaped  block  of  mass  m1.    Neglect  the  fricBon  associated  with
the  wheels  of  the  tapered  block.
Prob.  2  conBnued

For  impending  slip  down  the  inclined.

Let  slipping  impend  up  the  inclined  block,  then  reverse  the  direcBon  of  f  in  above  FBD.
Prob.   3:   The   chain   is   released   from   rest   with   the   length   x   of   overhanging   links   just
sufficient  to  iniBate  moBon.  The  coefficient  of  staBc  and  kineBc  fricBon  between
the   links   and   the   horizontal   surface   have   essenBally   the   same   value   μ.
Determine   the   velocity   v   of   the   chain   when   the   last   link   leaves   the   edge.
Neglect  any  fricBon  at  corner.

Let  ρ  =  mass  /  length,  IniBally    length  is  x

Prob.   4:   The   1-‐kg   collar   C   fits   loosely   on   the   smooth   shaV.   If   the   spring   is   unstreched
when  x  =  0  and  the  collar  is  given  a  velocity  of  4.6  m/s,  determine  the  velocity  of
the  collar  when  x  =  30  cm.
Prob.   5:   Determine   the   acceleraBon   of   the   system   and   the   tension   in   each   cable.   The
inclined   plane   is   smooth,   and   the   coefficient   of   kineBc   fricBon   between   the
horizontal   surface   and   block   A   is   μK =   0.2.   Neglect   fricBon   between   block   E   and
inclined  surface.

Prob.  6:  The  1400-‐kg  car  is  travelling  at  25  m/s  on  the  straight  porBon  of  the  road,  and
then  its  speed  is  reduced  uniformly  from  A  to  C,  at  which  point  it  comes  to  rest.
Compute  the  magnitude  F  of  total  fricBon  force  exerted  by  road  on  the  car  (a)
just  before  it  passes  point  B,  (b)  just  it  passes  point  B,  and  (c)  just  before  it  stops
at  point  C.
Distance  travelled  from  A  to  C:

Uniform  acceleraBon  from  A  to  C:

Prob.  6  conBnued

(a)

F  =  5768

Prob.7:  The  ball  has  a  mass  of  25  kg  and  a  speed  v=5  m/s  at  the  instant  it  is  at  its  lowest
point   (i.e.   θ =   00),   determine   the   tension   in   the   cord   at   this   instant.     Also,
determine   the   angle   θ   to   which   the   ball   swings   and   momentarily   stops.   Neglect
the  size  of  the  ball.

Prob.  8:  A  toboggan  and  rider  of  total  mass  80-‐kg  travel  down  along  the  (smooth)  slope
defined  by  the  equaBon  y  =  0.08x2.  At  the  instant  x=  15  m,  the  toboggan’s  speed
is  5  m/s.  At  this  point,  determine  the  rate  of  increase  in  speed  and  the  normal
force  which  the  slope  exerts  on  toboggan  and  rider  for  the  calculaBon.
