Twin Rocks Resort in Catanduanes.

After surfing in Puraran Beach in Baras, hire a motorbike and go gaga

over the Instagram-worthy cliffs hugging its coast like Binurong Point
and Balacay Point. Head over to Bato and pay a visit to theage-old
stone Church crowning the town center. Travel farther until you reach
the sun-spangled Sakahon Beach sprinkled with beautiful islands. Hike
up Bote Lighthouse for a scenic view of the Bato and its coast. And
while most tourists hightail Virac, the capital of Catanduanes, for the big
swells of Puraran Beach, it has its own tourist attractions to flaunt.

Virac Beaches

Caramoan Islands: Caramoan is a group of islands in the Bicol Region that’s best known
for being the filming location of several seasons of the hit reality show Survivor. Though it’s
geographically located in Camarines Sur, the fastest and most direct route here is via
Catanduanes. If you haven’t been there yet, you can also include an island hopping day-trip
here during your trip to Catanduanes, as we did during our most recent trip. Tugawe Cove
is just a 30 minute boat ride from the Codon port.
Puraran Surf Resort: For surfers who want easy access to the waves, this is the best
choice. Located in Baras, Puraran Surf Beach Resort is a small, intimate beach resort and
the home of the well-known “Majestic” waves where surfers can enjoy long-barrel-type
surf.
 Cottage Types – Php 700 / night
 Aircon room – Php 1,500, Php 1,000 / night
 Tent Rental – Php 250 / night

vacation rental spaces.

WHERE TO GO IN CARAMOAN:

The best thing to do in Caramoan is to go island-hopping and visit all the beaches and
islands scattered on the coast. Below are just some of the spots that I’ve been able
to visit on three separate trips (2012, 2016 and 2018). Some spots may not be visited if the
show Survivor is being filmed, or due to varying weather conditions or tide levels. Choose
which islands you want to visit to maximize your time.

For backpackers and those on a budget, the best option is to stay near the poblacion of
Caramoan and just go on a day trip. There are lots of budget-friendly inns and other
accommodations in the town proper of Caramoan including Sights & Sand Tourist
Inn.Contact 09216054499 / 09772779550. They also offer island-hopping tours from here.
