Definition of Terms

Funeral
The observances held for a dead person usually before burial or cremation, chiefly
dialectal or a funeral sermon, a funeral procession, and end of someone’s existence or
a matter of concern to one. (Meriam Webster, 1828)

Death
A permanent cessation of all vital functions or the end of life, an instance of dying, the
cause or occasion of loss of life, the state of being no longer alive. (Meriam Webster,
1828)

Family
A family is a group of people affiliated either by consanguinity, affinity, or co-residence
or some combination of these. Members of the immediate family may include spouses,
parents, brothers, sisters, sons, and daughters. Members of the extended family may
include grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and siblings-in-law.

Relative
A relative is a word referring grammatically to an antecedent, a thing having a relation to
or connection with or necessary dependence on another thing, a person connected with
another by blood or affinity or a relative term. (Meriam Webster, 1828)

Cremation
Cremation is to reduce the dead body into ashes by burning or the combustion,
vaporization and oxidation of cadavers to basic chemical compounds, such as gases,
ashes and mineral fragments retaining the appearance of dry bone. (Meriam Webster,
1828)
