Testimonials of BS in Management Accounting Graduates from the Philippines

Why did I choose this course:

Choosing my degree in college was an easy decision. Throughout my life, I always wanted to be like my
mother, an auditor. I loved accounting subjects and anything that has something to do with my
analytical skills.

About my college education:

Most of the students compare BS Accountancy and Management Accounting courses since both courses
major in Accounting. But the two courses really has different curriculum and approach.

Management accounting helped me not just to analyse the problem using accounting analysis but also
helped us how to make a decision using different approach being in upper or middle management.
Management accounting give me new ideas on how to improve my decision making skills from knowing
the problem until creating alternative solutions in a particularly problem using accounting or
management skills.

One of my difficult subject was our Cost accounting wherein we need to chose an existing company and
create case and financial analysis. The said assignment was required us to visit the chosen company and
create documentation. It was difficult since we really need to contact owners and upper management of
a particular company and ask permission to access their data and visit their place. But the project gave
us more knowledge and ideas of how a company really work in a particular industry.

Passing the exams especially in our major subjects was really a hard thing to do. You really need to study
well and analyse well everything. Every school year more of my classmates are shifting other courses
because they cannot maintain their grades anymore.

Taking this course will require you patience and motivation to hold on and take it seriously. It was never
really an easy course wherein you need to work on your entrepreneurial and accounting skills. Why do
you think I succeed? Because I work on it and at the same time I enjoyed working on it.

My current job:

understand the transaction flow of the business and to develop expectations on the possible

Am I using what I learned in college:

There are actually a lot of things you need to learn during work that you never learned from school. But
there are skills from schools that I have apply during work. Like using familiarizing an accounting system
which our school taught us. So it was already easy for me to understand how accounting system work.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

A week after my graduation I was already hired in an accounting firm in Makati. It was really a hard
decision for me to accept the Job since I was planning to continue studying and take my MBA program
that time. But I realized that as a graduate student, I still have so many things to consider and to learn in
this kind of industry.

taking CMA board exam.

Why did I choose this course:

I wanted to be a CPA and this course was the best choice for this purpose. It seems a good combination
to have both management and accounting.

About my college education:

I learned of how corporations were established and who were the incorporators, the Board of Directors,
and stockholders. This was important in the management of the business. By learning that the
corporation is run by the policies and directives of the Board, I was able to understand the bigger picture
of how big business is operated. I learned also that a small business can succeed if more capital is put in
to make it grow. The course did not have any hard subject. The Accounting and Math subjects were easy
to understand. The teachers seemed not to fail any of my classmates. So I can remember that most if
not all really graduated. There were only a few of us compared to the other schools that were open to
both female and male. This school did not look much at profits but on the quality of the education.

Since the teachers were mostly ladies like us, there was a kind of easy understanding and respect. They
were accessible and considerate of our schedules and projects. They showed us goodness of heart and
compassion.

My current job:

My current job is an Accountant in a big multinational company. The pay is much higher than the usual
rate in the Filipino companies for the same job description or functions.

Am I using what I learned in college:

I remember that a bag full of cash was left in one of the tables in the canteen in our school during my
college days, I gave it to the Registrar’s Office. I learned that honesty makes one feel very good inside. I
am still trying to be honest all the time in my work.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

After graduating I was hired in a marketing company. It was my first job and I really felt good. Then I
reviewed for the Board exam for Accountants. I passed it and became a CPA.
Do I recommend studying B.S. Management and Accountancy:

The accounting course is needed in each office. But it is better if one becomes a Certified Public
Accountant so that she can earn more.

There is a better chance of employment or work if one takes this course because this makes the
employer think that a graduate of this course will understand business.

Why did I choose this course:

The very reason why I chose this course is because I've seen my brother fare well in his career being a
graduate of BS Management. Right now he is a high-earning employee, manager, to be specific. Seeing
that his course gave him the key to such a wonderful opportunity, I was enticed to take up a course
similar or related to what he took. Now this course, Bs Management, was something I found that fit
perfectly to my own criteria and which was also a bit more challenging than my brother's course as it
has a major. In the same way the course my brother took helped him, I was hoping that this course
would also lead me to a fulfilling job and prepare me for the big competitive world after graduation.

About my college education:

I learned to be more knowledgeable in the aspects of business management and accounting. I did not
find any subject difficult. Accounting was enjoyable for me. I pass all the subjects but a few in our class
repeated taking the exams. It is very important to have an ambition and to be determined in being the
best one could be.

My current job:

I am now an administrative assistant in Aboitiz Power Co., assisting the administration manager; I am
now handling logistics, personnel travels, and other administrative work.

Am I using what I learned in college:

I learned to be always excellent in every task I do and not to count my labor. This helped me in my
current job in the sense that I am able to handle all the pressure and take it as a challenge or chance for
self-improvement, rather than see it as a way to dislike my job because of the high demands.
As an administrative assistant, I have to always perform at my best. In the same way that the school has
inculcated in me the sense of "doing more" or being excellent, I also do the same in my job which helps
me become a better, more significant employee each passing day.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

After graduation I was hired in Rizal Commercial Bank in Davao City as a teller.

Do I recommend studying BS Management, Major in Accounting:

Major in Accounting is good in learning the basics and concepts of good management of a business.
Studying this course is preparatory to having a high-paying career. Likewise, it gives a neophyte in
business the practical background to understanding accounting, auditing, personnel management, and
making feasibility studies for a business project.

Why did I choose this course:

I preferred this course because it’s a good investment that I really think has great value for my future as
in the later years of my career, I am planning to put up my own business which can be a restaurant or
selling some highly sought product or service.

About my college education:

Accounting Management is very in demand by business establishments. It is simply not just accounting
as it applies accounting in a subjective manner from the business owner’s or manager’s perspective. I
learned very important concepts on costs and it's classification or types and how crucial it's role is in
providing useful financial information for the business or enterprise. I also learned that in order to be
effective in accounting, you have to be very meticulous about almost everything that concerns the use
and allocation of resources. I had difficulty in making a feasibility study. For me it was the biggest
challenge of getting this course. Some of my classmates didn’t do good with the exams, the reason may
be because they didn’t take the subjects seriously and only relied on class discussions without the
initiative to study in advance. For me it was actually a very interesting course. I enjoyed almost of the
subjects we took because these gave me more practical knowledge and made me feel more confident
with my abilities.

My current job:

I am now a sales promo assistant in a big store in a mall here in Davao City.
It is my role to market the products to increase the sales of the store for profit-making. This requires me
to know the products and devise different interesting ways to promote them to the customers.

Am I using what I learned in college:

The subject on computer technology was practical for employment purposes. Making the feasibility
study was also a practical exercise, in making the feasibility study, I was able to reconcile all my learning
with it's application in real life. The feasibility study, which I think is a core aspect in mastering
management accounting, prepared me for what’s really important in business-proposal making once I
enter employment.

Additionally, the subjects related to customer relations and office work helped me in my current job like
customer relations, courtesy, the “customer is always right”, being honest, and so forth.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

I got my first job 1 month after I graduated.

Do I recommend studying Bs in Management Accounting:

In terms of employment, graduating from this course, you can easily be hired because it has a better
understanding of a business through accounting and management principles and practices. People who
graduate from Management Accounting can attain a managerial position so you can expect a high salary
grade if you get assigned to a similar position. But of course, as accounting is the core in every business,
knowing that you can participate in the management of the business can be a very purposeful role that
you might find fulfilling.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:

While studying, I always carried the motto: “Try and try until you succeed”. To be honest, I wasn't very
sure in the beginning if I could finish the course on time, but with this motto stuck in my mind, I guess
there was no way I could've failed. Thus I was able to succeed.

For students who are considering this course, I advise you to always take the initiative to study in
advance. Why? It's because the teacher won't always have to catch up with what you already know, or
what you still don't know. The teacher will just oftentimes give you situations where you can apply the
concepts, but thoroughly understanding the concepts will be your responsibility since each person has a
different way of understanding things. Lastly, you need to practice. Hone your analytic skills with
answering exercises and real-life problems so in the long run in tackling a more difficult topic, you
already have a good foundation of the basics in accounting concepts.

Why did I choose this course:

Actually I had my eye in owning and managing a business someday. In order for me to do that is logically
a business course.

About my college education:

Lot of stuff accounting, taxation, business law and management are only few of those. For the most
difficult I would say the research, since you have to spend a lot of time in getting data and master your
work in order for you not to shoot yourself in front of the panel. And on contrary it is also the most
enjoyable since you have the chance to see the other side of life, and the sense of fulfillment after the
defense it the best feeling ever. I did fail subjects twice and no excuse for that it is due to my
irresponsible act.

Attitude and traits to succeed would be patience, average in numbers will do, sociable and creative yes
that is right creativity is one of the main key.

My current job:

I'm currently and Accounts Receivable personnel of a company in Alabang.

I do handle revenue report, ageing accounts and credit and collection.

Am I using what I learned in college:

Taxation, excel and accounting are the things I still use in current job, but to be exact 70% of my major
subject are applicable in regards to it's content.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

Less than a month I guess, a bit of a luck from me.

Do I recommend studying BS in Management Accounting:

It depends. If you love to surround yourself with business like environment then I will recommend. But
you hate numbers and business then you already know the answer.

If your aiming a big salaries, then I apologize but this is not the course for you. For a fresh graduate you
can range 10-15 thousand, but in less than 5 years you can get 30 thousand. Reality in salaries for this
course is far beyond the digit. It is your attitude that will drive you to success, why? because you could
be a manager, director or VP for finance someday, the business lingo or terms will not be a problem or
even own your own business. It is a matter of choice on what you want to be, your envision to yourself.
It is also applicable to all the courses. Just remember in life learning is unlimited and on the things you
want to be? dude sky is your limit.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:

In every thing you do, there must always be love, once you have learned to love this course everything
will follow. I assure you that you are not required to be a genius in math or numbers. All you need is to
appreciate the course and be proud of it, hesitations will not do you good. If you want a thing go and
work for it.

Why did I choose this course:

It was in demand worldwide.

About my college education:

We studies Internal auditing, recording of transactions. Decision-making based on studies. The most
difficult subject was Financial Accounting. I enjoyed Managerial Accounting the most.

Some exams were really difficult which I think is very normal. And yes, some repeated the subjects, but
this was basically due to laziness.

What you need to succeed in this course is Hardwork - study study study. Socialization - you'll need lots
of friends whom you can compare your ideas with. Critical-thinking - think outside the box and be
creative.
My current job:

Account Assistant at the number 1 local bank in the Philippines.

I work in their leasing department, wherein I assist the officer in preparing proposals to the
management and help the client get an approved loan.

Am I using what I learned in college:

Not all of it were really used. Basic accounting, calculus and Math of Investments are actually very
helpful to me in my job. Although, on the side, when I talk to clients who are, say, doctors, I know a little
something about Biology.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

I started working 4 months after graduation.

Do I recommend studying BS in Management Accounting:

There is a WIDE range of possibilities in a business graduate. Everything is a business. Therefore

everyone needs someone who knows a lot about business.

In terms of salary, the pay is not very high. But if you are not married and don't have kids, the salary
would suffice.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:

Don't mind what other people say about being a failure at Accountancy. It's not about the degree. It's
about who holds the degree and how he got it.

Why did I choose this course:

Apparently, I need to shift to this course as I was not able to comply with the required average so to
proceed with Accountancy. Thus, I decided to take this course instead as I was a working student during
my college days and taking up again the needed subjects and get high grades would entail delay.
About my college education:

Personally, the subject on TAX is the subject which I found difficult. I did enjoy as I love to work on
figures. Boring was on the study of business management as the professor was also boring. Interesting
for me was the accounting subjects, mathematics and of course the basics on philosophy

One needs to have love with figures and mind counting/computations. There is no exact formula on
problem solving but the important thing is that in any way one can derive to the correct answer by
finding it's own way on how to solve it, thus, accounting is an art in itself.

My current job:

I am an Associate Admin Officer. I am handling consultancy contracts (free lancer and firm). Also
handling local subsidy. Daily work would be on checking invoices from suppliers if it is arithmetically
correct. I do sometimes issue check payments to suppliers/service providers

Am I using what I learned in college:

Yes. Very much, specially on basic accounting.

Though our company has it's own accounting system, nevertheless, basics in accounting is most likely I
used in my daily work apart from self initiative which someone should have as an employee.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

Actually, months before my graduation, I was hired as junior bookkeeper in one of the famous hotels
here in Butuan City. After which, I transferred to another job/employer and never had the chance to
stop working since then.

Do I recommend studying BS in Accounting for Management:

Yes. But would still be best if one proceeds to accountancy rather.

As regards salary level, it is quiet good, most especially when one has already dependents and would
need to earn more for living

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:

I would advice that they proceed to Accountancy instead as this course is non-board, thus, not entitled
to take the exam so to have the license and be called Certified Public Accountant or shall we say "CPA".

Why did I choose this course:

I studied this course due to it's potential possibility to find great jobs that will lead me to establish the
dreams I have for my family and for my future.

About my college education:

Difficult, well as normal as it can be as student we need to strive hard to attain and learn the subjects,
process, methods, and techniques to provide a concise and clear understanding in the course we are
taking thus making is complex when it is becomes in to the real cruel world of business. Fun because of
the friends that I meet along in this process of learning together we strive hard to attain the succession
we long for. Interesting because ever bit of memories of hard work, team work, and personal
experiences brought a chance for me to make a difference and to be a personal treasure of experience
for attaining the succession of the dreams I long to achieve.

My current job:

Book keeping - management of workbooks, vouchers, and various business transaction of our
Corporation.

Am I using what I learned in college:

Yes, I have. I have used my insights of accounting processes, methods, laws, and tax policies. I have used
my management processing in using methods in coordinating my document and business transaction
processes. I have used my marketing skills in achieving business transaction, hold a meeting, and making
sales for our company.

How long did it take to find a job after graduation:

3 months after graduation.

Do I recommend studying BS in Management Accounting:

Yes, I would recommend as the employment opportunities are always there.

Salary level will be just following you if you do the your best.

Why did I choose this course:

First year I took BS in Accountancy until third year. But then because of the program was too long and I
wanted to finish soon and help my family, I shifted to Management Accounting. Which had the same
program except of Accountancy having the boards. I had this inspiration of having a background about
accounting because of my grandfather who is a CPA. He taught me on dealing with business and
decision making at an early age. I was inspired by him because of his strong knowledge on having the
credibility of being an honest CPA. So instead of pursuing my Accountancy, I took a different path which
is I am happy with the results.

About my college education:

In some ways, it was difficult. But as the years went by, accounting is fun. With every new chapters, new
lessons, new mistakes that would go further explanations, in effect it was a whole lot of fun.

You need to be motivated, focused and inspired. These three go along. If you are motivated in doing
what makes you happy, which is for me my course, I am focused on finishing it and looking pass through
my goal. Being inspired by my family that keeps me going.

opportunities after graduation, lots of call interviews, but I just had to have a break first.

Do I recommend studying Bachelor of Science in Management Accounting:

There are a lot of job opportunities under this course. You just have to choose wisely which is which.
And on what field you would like to be in.

Salary level - everything start up with the basic salary. Do your best and you'll get it raised up. Salary
itself will just be there, as long as you enjoy what you're doing, you'll be satisfied on what you'll get.

Advice to people who are thinking of studying this course:

Be more passionate. Love your course. Because it will never do good to you if you don't love your
course. It will make yourself a mess. Be more motivated and inspired to the people around you.
Management Accounting is just like Accountancy, the difference is that there is no boards, but in effect
everything is just the same. There are a lot of opportunities, and having it as my study program, I get to
learn two things at the same time, Management and Accounting. Hitting two birds with one stone. Goal
met.

About my college education:

Having been completed tertiary education is but an honor for the rest of my life. And with help of
Mariano Marcos State University, with my determination to succeed, the desire for excellence and
competencies I gained, it molded me into what I am now and my philosophies.

Management Accounting is both a discipline in professional accounting development and imbued with
effective and efficient ideas in Management. I developed the value of analysis, mathematics,
management and value crafting plus interpersonal communication. Not by just being at par, but even
greater as I expected.

My current job:

Operations Analyst at Deutsche Bank- Deutsche Knowledge Services.

Am I using what I learned in college:

I have to say that working is very different compare to your college days. Although, great foundations
taught in school is promising though not a hundred percent application to where I am now.

universities in Manila.
