keyboard is a peripheral device that enables a user to input text into a computer or any other electronic
machinery. A keyboard is an input device and is the most basic way for the user to communicate with a
computer. This device is patterned after its predecessor, the typewriter, from which the keyboard inherited its
layout, although the keys or letters are arranged to function as electronic switches. The keys include
punctuation, alphanumeric and special keys like the Windows key and various multimedia keys, which have
specific functions assigned to them.

Parts of keyboard and its function

1. Escape -to interrupt or cancel the current process or running program, or toclose a pop-up window.
2. Tab - is used to advance the cursor to the next tab stop. The word tab derives from the word tabulate,

4. shift key is a modifier key on a keyboard, used to type capital letters and other alternate "upper"

operation (for example, Ctrl + C ); similar to the Shift key, the Control key rarely performs any function

6. Alt key (pronounced /ˈɔːlt/ or /ˈʌlt/) on a computer keyboard is used to change (alternate) the function
of other pressed keys. Thus, the Alt key is a modifier key, used in a similar fashion to the Shift key
7. space bar, spacebar, blank, or space key[1] is a key on a typewriter or alphanumeric keyboard in the
form of a horizontal bar in the lowermost row, significantly wider than other keys. Its main purpose is to
conveniently enter a space, e.g., between words during typing.
8. Windows key is a standard key on most keyboards on computers built to use a Windows operating
system.
9. Enter key is used to send the cursor to the next line or execute a command or operation.
10. The Backspace key or Back space key is a keyboard key that deletes any character before
the cursor's current position or the left.
11. Scroll Lock key was meant to lock all scrolling techniques, and is a remnant from the original IBM
PC keyboard, though it is not used by most modern-day software. In the original design, Scroll
Lock was intended to modify the behavior of the arrow keys.
12. Menu key, also known as the Application key, is a key found on some Windows-oriented keyboards.
