Important BFES Information:

Arrival:
The school will open daily at 7:10 AM. Students will report directly to their 5th Grade Daily Schedule:
homerooms upon arrival. Breakfast is also available for students to purchase in
the cafeteria beginning at 7:10am. Students need to stop by breakfast prior to 7:10-7:40 Arrival to Homeroom (B1)
walking to their classroom. School begins promptly at 7:40 AM for all students. If 7:45-10:05 Block One
the student arrives after 7:40, an adult must accompany the students to the
office for a late check-in. 10:05-10:35 Block Two

Dismissal Changes:
A written note is required for any change in your child’s transportation. Emails will 11:20-11:50 Recess with the grade level
not be accepted. Transportation notes should include; child’s name, block two
11:50-12:20 Lunch with Block Two
teacher’s name, date(s) of requested change, and the requested change. If you
have change of plans due to an emergency, please call the school office for 12:20-2:15 Block Two
transportation.

Absences:
Please email or send in a note when your student is absent. Family vacations are considered unexcused absences. Please
keep this in mind when planning family trips.

Snack:
We will have snack daily during block one. We have children with food allergies. Please be mindful of this when bringing
food into the classroom.

Birthday Treat Information:


If you wish to send in a small snack for your child’s birthday, please let the block two teacher know. Please send in a picture
of the ingredients list at least 48 hours prior to the celebration. We must share the ingredients list with the class. Food will not
be able to be distributed if I do not receive this information in the specified time. We cannot have a birthday party, but we
can celebrate with a small snack or treat bags at the end of the day. Please don’t send cakes due to the time required to
cutting and serving. Cupcakes, cookies, muffins, popsicles, or ice cream cups are best. Please remember according to
Fulton County policies all food must be store bought. Also, party invitations may NOT be sent home to individual students,
however a class set can be sent home. Thank you for understanding.

Money:
Please pay for lunch/breakfast by the week or month whenever possible. Lunch charges are $2.45 for children. Breakfast
charges are $1.10 for children. Below is a link to the Fulton County school nutrition meal prices for 2019-2020 school year.

All money and checks should be in an envelope labeled with your child’s name, teachers’ name, and purpose statement.
Please make all checks payable to BIRMINGHAM FALLS ELEMENTARY. Separate checks are required for lunch money,
bookfair, school pictures, etc.

Homework Policy:
Homework is assigned daily Monday – Thursday. Homework will not exceed 40 minutes (including independent reading).
If you are noticing an issue with your child not being able to complete his/her homework in the allocated time period,
please stop him/her and let the teacher know. Please note that students will not be permitted to call from the office
regarding forgotten homework or books.

Grading Policy:
Graded assignments are classified as either summative or formative. Each category is worth 50% in the gradebook. Graded
papers are sent home in Friday Folders every other Friday. Parents can access grades on Infinite Campus as well.

Friday Folders:
There is a Friday Folder that will come home every Friday with other school related information. Please return the Friday
Folders on Monday! Please take the time to review and discuss this work with your child. Graded papers come home every
other week.

Headphones:
Please be sure your child has personal headphones or earbuds in their backpacks at all times. We encourage them not to
be an expensive set that a child would be upset about if lost or broken. Dollar store or Walmart brands are fine.

Volunteer Training:
In order to volunteer within your child’s classroom, you will need to complete volunteer training. In order to complete the
