ENGLISH SESSIONS

For the 9:30-11 session on the 1st:

45 min for IGCSE trs (including UP): A Q&A Session
Each teacher would prepare 3-4 questions by July 20th, which would then be sent to
Anne (questions range from whether it is better to have lab practicals or not, what is
the best way to bring up second language learners to the IGCSE standard, exam
patterns, etc.)

45 min for IGCSE English trs (including UP)

The main categories for possible workshop topics include:
Details of Examcraft (including marking)
How to Improve Children's Ability to Follow Instructions
Summarizing/Paraphrasing
Composition
Teachers mainly want to benefit from her experience and also to hear about her
daughter's experience
Reading Comprehension

For the children's session on the 3rd (8th and 9th stds--25 children):
Suggestions for session activity:
Poetry: taking a prompt such as a famous saying, paraphrasing it and transforming it
into a 4 line poem
Figures of speech
Euphemisms
Writing a headline
Mock interviewing/role play
Enacting a heard story

For the Big History workshop (14 children + past classes??)

Discipline of Anthropology/Ethnology: Interview of the Guest, focusing on his
experiences in Alaska
(Children would prepare questions in advance; Guest could show slides if wanted)
For the classroom setup
We were thinking of using the UP library. We would set up with old newspapers,
white board, tables and chairs, writing materials.
Teachers are ready to make/provide any materials Anne Stillman or Barry Rodrigue
need, such as chart paper, cards, etc.
Deepa Tr. will look after the setup.
