During the Saturdays of first semester, in our hydrology class, we thoroughly discussed every important

ideas and aspects of hydrology. Before, my idea of hydrology was all about liquid that moves around the
earth. I never thought that it was an important subject at all. But as time has passed, I have come to realize
that this subject has touched and has conquered my heart. The hydrologic cycle, particularly the cause
and effects, gave me a deeper understanding in our current weather and climate conditions. Due to the
inclination of the earth, our weather and climate condition varies. These parameters also affect the
intensity of the processes that occur in every part of the world. These processes are precipitation,
evaporation, evapotranspiration and etc. Without the solar radiation coming from the sun, we will never
witness this occurrence that will produce rain. Have you even asked yourself how important “rain” is? In
this subject, I was able to recognize the significance of rain as part of our daily lives. Profoundly, this
subject has explained to me the meaningful purpose of rain.

I have learned that rain is one of the main source of fresh water for all the living things. The water that
comes from the rain moves from one reservoir to another reservoir that supplies our daily needs. Water
is commonly used for irrigating the plants and crops, feeding animals, producing energy and other
purposes that will definitely prolong the individuals' lifespan. Rain could be a blessing for all of us,
especially for those people living in a desert area. Just like in the lyrics of a song, "There's always a rainbow
after the rain"; it gives us hope to continue our journey in spite of the tough problems we encounter.
However, rain could also betray everyone. Why? Because it has the ability to devastate all mankind –
through floods and tsunamis.

Due to extreme intensity of rainfall, it could immerse an island in an instant. Natural calamities such as
storm and hurricane could wipe out and leave an area empty. Floods could lead into loss of lives, loss of
properties, and even loss of economic sustainability that would really frighten us. Hundreds, thousands
and even millions will be surely affected of this phenomenon. Hence, water is somehow dangerous and
threatening. But, it should not be something to be afraid of, if we know the safety precautions in times of
calamities.

Discipline is the key solution to this problem. We should be efficient and effective individuals of our
community by conserving the water resources and also all of the natural resources. Let’s properly use
water and avoid wastage of it. It reminds me of this quote that “if we are all in this together, the next
generation will surely experience and enjoy our God-given beautiful creation, the Mother Earth.”

Henceforth, after all the learnings I gained through studying hydrology, I could say, “I am confidently
beautiful with a heart that I can apply my greater wisdom in contributing into humanity wellness.”
