I.

PROJECT OVERVIEW

Structures such as houses, commercials buildings, condominiums, studios and many more are built in
accordance with standards. These structures are made to give service to people. As generation passes by,
many designs of these physical structures are made and improved. Buildings are usually used by
companies as a place for their business. Designing such buildings need to meet requirements in line with
the standards, from structural design, electrical design, structural cabling design and the like. It also must
promote comfort, good ventilation, health, lighting and security for people. Each has their own significance
in the overall composition of network.

Nowadays, putting up networks, telephone line, and internet connections has a vital role in an institution or
company. Structured cabling is the foundation of a successful building network. Structure cabling also
requires to meet the standards as well as the need of the client. Network allows the sharing of information
and resources. In business are important and must be strategically layout. Different facility application
system is also installed and provided in a company

This project aims to design structure cabling for networks, telephone lines, and internet connection for an
insurance company. Moreover, the project also provides facility application system, such as E-mail, proxy
server and local telephone line. The project provided strategic network layout for the client for its main
office and five branch office. The main office contains 10 different networks with terminals connected to it. A
website was also created for the customers of the said insurance company. Structure cabling was also
presented to show the layout of network wire, telephone wiring and internet wiring for the whole building.
Multiprotocol label switching for wide area network connection was used for the internetwork of each
network from different locations. Networks are segmented using virtual local area network. All routers used
are configured manually to provide all possible routes for the interconnections.

In addition, local telephone system was installed and connected to each other. Internet connections for
each department were also provided connecting it to an internet service provider. A proxy server for each
branch is also installed to improve the security of the system and the efficiency of the internet. E-mail
service will also be provided for the communication link of the company. In an insurance company, security
access system is vital to secure all files of the company as well as to ensure the customers of the company
the security of their accounts.

II. PROJECT OBJECTIVES

The design network infrastructure and implementation plan aims the following:

 To design a network system that would interconnect all the subsystems into one administrator.
 To provide a quality of service which contributes the operational productivity of such company.
 To create a systematic and strategic network layout that enable network connectivity,
communication, operation and management.

2
III. PROJECT METHODOLOGY

The project is to design a data communications network infrastructure and implementation plan for the
specific business company. The group started the project by deciding on what company they are going to
make a design proposal and it is an insurance company. It is followed by researching ideas and standards
on how to make a good network infrastructure plan.

The Exousia Life Insurance Company has one main office and five branch offices. The group needs to
create a WAN setup of each of the branches to the main office, and LAN setup. The chosen WAN links to
be used is the MPLS or Multiprotocol Label Switching. The diagram is also presented that shows the nodes
and links of the setup. In the head office, there are ten networks while the branch offices have only one
network. The network segmentation is through VLAN. The team selected four VLANs to the main office
specifically, the UAD, ASD, MSD, and ITD. This separation acts as a team competition strategy of the
company while to the branches, departments were been separated through VLANs.

The team will estimate, analyze design layout, implement structured cabling network, and then validate
system configuration.

DESCRIPTION

Figure above shows the general and overall network infrastructure diagram showing the interconnections of
all the offices. The main branch of the company has linked to all the branches. At the first three branches,
that are located in Quezon City, Caloocan, and Bulacan, dedicated links were used to have a point-to-point
connection. While on the branches from Bacolod and General Santos, MPLS or multiprotocol label
switching was used. It was used to have multiple connections to the other branches.

VII. WAN CONNECTIONS

A. BACOLOD CITY – MAKATI CITY

a. WAN Services Used: X.25
 Rationale: X.25 is recommended WAN services for the reason that there is error
detection hence it provides error free delivery. It contains fields which are used for
error and flow control.
b. Connection Speed (BW): 20 Mbps
 Rationale: 1Mbps is the chosen since this bandwidth is reasonable for general
web surfing, email, and social media. This is efficient sending accounts from the
main branch.
c. Services Provider: PLDT
 Rationale: PLDT is chosen since they offer no data capping with a reasonable
price and speed.
d. Equipment Deployed:
1. Modem – provided by the ISP
 Rationale: product package by the ISP
2. Router – Convergence System 5000 Series
 Rationale: It is high performance, low power use
