Unit 9 – Zika Virus Pandemic

1. Make an argument in at least 150 wordsSummarizing the new documentary

news report “The Devastating Zika Virus Explained.”
According to the video, it tells us how the Zika virus was so devastating to
populations and to babies born from unexpected, unexpected births. Initially,
the journalist in the video tells us about the Zika virus and the countries in
which it is found; countries of the American continent in both Central and
South America, where most cases of people with this virus can be observed.
In the case of pregnant women, babies born with microcephaly (a disorder in
which the baby's head is smaller than expected) and in Brazil, as a result of
this virus, the number of children born with this disease increases more than
normal. For this reason, given the excess of people affected by this virus,
prevention campaigns were initiated to spread it more and more, thus
decreasing the rate of births with this condition and other conditions derived
from this virus.

2. Compare the world health organization emergency response to the 2015

Zika Virus outbreak to the 2014 Ebola Viral disiase.

Considering that both the Zika virus and the Ebola outbreak are transmitted
in different ways and that these events occurred frequently, the manner in
which WHO acted was practically similar in the sense of employing a certain
team (epidemiologists, people who work in the area of health and others) to
combat each of these events. In the case of Ebola, it was expanded
throughout Africa and the Zica was declared a global emergency because
not only a continent was harmed. The WHO was responsible for intervening
adequately in order to prevent the spread of these viruses, investigating and
planning how to eradicate them, reducing the consequences and educating
the population to raise awareness.

3. Recommend long-term solutions that might be important next steps to

control transmission of the mosquito-borne illness.
In the case of Zika, it is vital that education to prevent this virus from
spreading from all homes, as these mosquitoes settle in stagnant water, so
it is vitally important to be cleaning and observing that the water is not
allowed to play. For more than one day; also have proper care such as
repellents and necessary vaccinations. In the case of pregnant women,
follow the above recommendations and follow up with your doctor. And to
consult quickly to the doctor if some symptom is affecting the child or the
woman in pregnancy, because by avoiding that the disease spreads this
disease could be treated and thus to avoid certain malformations in the
pregnancy or delicate diseases in children.
