PREFACE

Thank to Almighty God who has given His bless to the writer for finishing the
English paper assignment entitled “Narrative text”.

The writer also wish to express his deep and sincere gratitude for those who
have guided in completing this paper. This English paper contains some
example of narrative text that can help the people to improve their reading
skill. The procedures in using reading games is provided in this paper. There
are five example of games.

Narrative text also can be used as the guidance for those who want to teach
English reading story. Hopefully, this paper can help the readers to expand
their knowledge about English reading.

A. Narrative Text
Narrative text is a story with complication or problematic events and it tries
to find the resolutions to solve the problems. An important part of narrative
text is the narrative mode, the set of methods used to communicate the
narrative through a process narration.

B. The purpose of narrative text

The Purpose of Narrative Text is to amuse or to entertain the reader with a


story.

C. Generic Structures of Narrative Text


− Orientation
Sets the scene: where and when the story happened and introduces the
participants of the story: who and what is involved in the story.
− Complication
Tells the beginning of the problems which leads to the crisis (climax) of
the main participants.
− Resolution
The problem (the crisis) is resolved, either in a happy ending or in a sad
(tragic) ending
− Re-orientation/Coda
This is a closing remark to the story and it is optional. It
consists of a moral lesson, advice or teaching from the writer

6. Past Future Continues Tense

− Specific character. The character of the story is specific, not general.

− Action verbs. A verb that shows an action.

− Direct speech. It is to make the story lively. The direct speech uses
present tense.
