Chapter 1

Introduction

English is widely used language all over the world. It is

regarded as a universal language since even non-english speaking

countries have practiced and used to communicate, and build

relations with other nationalities and countries.English is very

much part of intellectual and social life of the Filipino

students outside the classroom They use their abilities in

communicate using English, read newspaper in English and watch

television in English.The Philippines consider the English as a

foreign language, (EFL), yet English is very useful in our daily

lives in bussiness, social media and building relations to the

world. Because English is part of our daily lives it is

considered as our second languge (ESL).

The use of English among Filipinos entails many problems because

it is not our native language. Thats why our government provide

adequate solutions to address the needs especially in English.

English is taught at the very beginning of the ladder of learning

to inculcate to the minds on how to utilize English properly.

The Filipino is very conservative in English. Sometimes people

used this as the basis of what your achievements in life when

you speak English fluently.

Despite the fact that English is a second language we cannot

deny the fact that it is difficult to learn. It takes time to

master and learn effectively. The need to be proficient in the

use of English among non native speakers has become a global

phenomena. Today one of the challenges is to overcome the

difficulties in English communication especially in expressing

their ideas using English is quite challenging to the students

whose primary language is not English.There are some instances

that cause the difficulties in English communication

particularly in poor vocabulary acquisition, lack of time to

study, social media that diverts the attention to utilize their

time in facebook, Instagram, and online games instead of

studying.The teacher has a great role in supplementing the

difficulties in English communication. Apart from that the

environment which the student belong affects when someone bully

anyone who did mistakes in pronuncition or poor grammar that

would make him shame and never to do again. Because of this

reasons the researcher sought to determine the causes of

difficulties in English Communication of Grade-8 Magsaysay

students of Northwestern Agusan Colleges S.Y. 2019-2020.
